Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Social services in Sweden are facing, and will face, many changes. This brings about the topic of change management since change management is a way to realize change. The purpose of this study was to enhance the understanding of first line mangers, in the social services, perspectives on change management. The study had a qualitative approach and was conducted through semi structured interviews with six mangers in social services. A thematic analysis was then carried out. The results showed that the respondents had slightly different views about change management and what it entails, but a common ground in the focus on relational factors as a way to facilitate change. Employee participation and communication during change is seen as two essential factors, and creating real participation is seen as central. Communication during change needs to be intelligible and characterized by clarity and transparency. The study points to the importance of having the conditions to exercise change management, create employee participation and communicate during change. In parallel with good conditions there has to be competence in change management.
