Angular accelerations are considered responsible for certain types of common brain injuries. It is therefore of great importance that they can be measured in conjunction with testing of protective headgear. Angular accelerometers presently on the market are not suitable for this special measurement problem. Computation of the angular accelerations from linear measurements has previously been performed using a special arrangement of nine accelerometers in order to achieve numerical stability. It is shown in this paper that stability need not be a problem with a six accelerometer scheme but that the accuracy of the computation can be increased by the use of redundant accelerometers. The sensitivity to errors of the proposed method is investigated through numerical simulations. The used FORTRAN programs are included for reference.
