Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

A project to design the cover to a swimsensor has been made. A swimsensor is a body worn tool that is mainly used by professional swimmers in order to improve their swimming technique. The project was done in collaboration with the company AquaForce which has developed the technical aspect behind the swimsensor. Their solution measures the difference in water pressure on the hands during swimming over time and then uses that information to help the user identify how his/her swimming technique can be improved. The target group for this simsensorconcept are young adults and adults who actively train their swimming technique in order to improve.

The challenge in this project was to design a swimming sensor which satisfies the different needs of the target group as well as possible while simultaneously taking in regard the demands placed on the swimsensor. In order to do this an extensive research was made. The research that was made later laid the foundation for three concepts of swimsensors. After careful evaluation one of these was chosen and it was named Swimprover. Swimprover is a swimsensor which attaches between the fingers on the hand and collects pressure data from the users swimming strokes with help from a pressure plate which is placed on the palm of the hand.

Many aspects were important to keep in mind during development of this concept but it was mainly ergonomics, hydrodynamics and to use a design language which both aligns with AquaForce:s company identity and the target groups emotional needs. With help from scientific articles on hydrodynamics, interviews with a specialist in ergonomics and AquaForce prototypes could be manufactured. These prototypes were tested on test subjects which gave information on how the fastening mechanism should be designed. The result of the project was a streamlineshaped swimsensor that applies just enough force around the hand to keep the risk of it detaching when used low while at the same time not causing any major inconvenience to the user. A container for the swimsensors was also designed where they can be stored safely and charged wirelessly.
