Uppsatsen undersöker hur intresserade elever på El- och energiprogrammet upplever undervisningen i ämnet ellära – särskilt avseende materiella aspekter – samt syftar till att bidra med kunskap om vad som påverkar elevers intresse i relation till undervisningen. 

Eftersom elektricitet varken syns, hörs eller luktar, och ofta är farligt att röra vid eller smaka på, blir undervisning i ellära särskilt utmanande. Tidigare forskning visar på ett samband mellan intresse och elevers resultat på yrkesutbildning. Dessutom beskriver handledare på elföretag att om elever är intresserade - och kommer i tid - så faller allt annat på plats. Elläraren har alltså en nyckelroll i att väcka elevernas intresse för elektricitet. Detta arbete fokuserar därför på kopplingen mellan elevers intresse och elläraundervisning, utifrån följande frågeställningar:

1. Hur beskriver intresserade elever sin upplevelse av elläraundervisning?
2. Vad är centralt i intresserade elevers möte med det materiella i elläraundervisning?

Frågeställningarna besvaras genom att studera elever under tre olika lektionsmoment i ordinarie undervisning. Empirin består både av video- och ljudupptagningar från lektioner och intervjuer kopplade till dessa upptagningar. Studiedeltagarna var tre intresserade elever på El- och energiprogrammet.

Det empiriska materialet har analyserats utifrån sociomateriell teori. Studiens resultat visar dels att elever – i laborationsmoment – reflekterar över sitt handlande, dels hur materialet ger en direkt återkoppling på elevernas handlingar. Eleverna beskriver hur förståelse är centralt för att få intresse för ämnet. Eleverna berättar också om strategier de har för att hålla sig engagerade när arbetet upplevdes som tungt. Sammanfattningsvis visar studien att möte med det materiella i undervisningen, i det här fallet genom laborationer, bidrar till att intresse för ellära kan utvecklas. Viktigast för intresset förefaller dock vara att eleverna känner att de förstår.

This master's thesis examines how interested students in the electrician high school program  experience teaching in the subject of electrical engineering – especially regarding material aspects – and aim to contribute knowledge about what influences students' interest in relation to the classroom education.

Since electricity cannot be seen, heard or smelled, and is often dangerous to touch or taste, electrical education is particularly challenging. Previous research shows a connection between interest and students' results in vocational training. In addition, supervisors at electrician companies describe that if students are interested - and arrive on time - then everything else falls into place. The electrical teacher therefore has a key role in arousing students' interest in electricity. This work therefore focuses on the connection between students' interest and electrical education, based on the following questions:

1. How do interested students describe their experience of electrical education?
2. What is central to interested students' encounter with the material in electrical education?

The questions are answered by studying students during three different lesson periods during regular class. The empirical material consists of both video and audio recordings from lessons and interviews linked to these recordings. The study participants where three interested students from a electrician high school.

The empirical material was analyzed with sociomaterial theory. The results of the study show that students - in laboratory sessions - reflect on their actions, and how the material provides direct feedback on the students' actions. The students describe how understanding is central to gaining interest in the subject. The students also talk about strategies they use for staying engaged when the work is perceived as difficult. In summary, the study shows that the encounter with the material in teaching, in this case through laboratory sessions, contributes to the development of interest in electrical engineering. However, the most important factor for interest appears to be that the students feel that they understand.
