Abstract [en]

Rewiring The City:Reconnecting Urban Metabolism to the regional circular system

What is the project? The existing regional circular economy system has formed a cross-city collaborative network between the forestry and metal industries, but it has not benefited all cities. Kristinehamn, as one of the post-industrial cities, mainly serves as a logistics and transit hub in this system, failing to integrate into core production and value creation processes. While its urban infrastructure and spatial structure possess advantages for multimodal transport, they have long served the flow of goods rather than value transformation, resulting in limited added value for local industries, labor shortages, and a marginal position in the regional division of labor, leading to structural development stagnation.

The project aims to employ a renewal strategy called Industrial Remix, which comprises several aspects:1.Introducing upstream or downstream industries (Volumetric Modular Timber Construction) by adjusting the urban structure and integrating with the existing regional industrial chain;2.Introducing supporting residential and vocational education facilities;3.Creating a strong site brand, including landscape, cultural, and research spaces;

Alleviating the various problems caused by stagnant urban development from both hard and soft power perspectives, attempting to reconnect the city to the regional value chain.
