The relationship between left-wing values and environmental protection is well known, especially regarding the issue of climate change. Green parties, however, play a special role in this equation: while environmental issues are at the core of their agenda, they have also embraced values that transcend the left-right dimension. The Swedish Green Party is no exception to this rule. The party established itself in the 1980s as being "neither left nor right". Since joining parliament, it has mostly cooperated with other left-wing parties and has increasingly been percieved as a left-wing party by voters. This calls into question both their ideology and how it has developed over time. Does the party transcend the left-right-spectrum, or is it a left-wing party? Utilizing a theoretical framework of ecologism and ecosocialism, a qualitative idea analysis was performed on party manifestos from 1988 and 2025. The analysis shows that while the party retains an ecologist core, its left-wing tendencies are somewhat more pronounced in the recent manifesto. In line with previous research, the result also shows that the party has always been left-wing to some extent.
