My MFA solo exhibition, containing:

The tuna can is the hired star of this project; its role has become a means to an end. I chose the tuna can as it served as an everyday item loaded with cultural, social, and economic associations. It connects to the idea of movement, transformation, and resourcefulness that run through my practice. I had brought up tuna cans as a topic of conversation among colleagues, friends, and family. It started to intentionally become a part of my daily life. When first considering the installation of the work, I thought about movement and transportation. I began by looking for used fishboxes, as this was my earliest allusion to fish transportation. I came into contact with multiple fishing families who had been in the business of handling fish since the 1800’s. This then led me to contact a worker at a fish auction, whom I interviewed and later included in my exhibition as one of the many recorded sound pieces. The tuna can was the lead role and also the foundation of my exhibition, in both topic and material.

• Tuna cans mounted on spotlights, casting shadows and silhouettes on the wall. Resembling the reflection that comes from when water and light meet. As well as ripples that expand into the shadows.
• Wooden fish boxes and plastic fish boxes.
• A staircase leading up to electro excitors that are stimulating bending waves on tuna cans. You may even see a gathering of tuna cans above.
• A multichannel soundscape of the vessel in different contexts. This multichannel soundscape is similar to a diary, where I'm sharing different moments in my process.
