Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Today's society is changing at an ever-increasing pace, a society characterized by financial problems, climate threats and an increasingly unstable world. In order for an organization to keep up with development and be attractive as a workplace, a move from old hierarchical structures to more flat organizations characterized by self-organization and co-leadership is beneficial. This study aims to contribute knowledge to how quality work works in organizations that strive to self-determination and reduced prevalence of managerial roles in favor of self-organization. Initially, a literature review was conducted to find relevant theory in the subject. Scientific articles were searched with the keywords Teal, Holacracy, Sociocracy, Co-leadership, Self-leadership, Managerless, Self-managing team, TQM. The study was carried out with a qualitative research strategy with reference to the purpose of the study. Data were collected through literature search and semi-structured interviews. Data from the interviews were compiled in an affinity chart where different themes could be identified such as motivation, selfdetermination, customer focus, competence, sustainability and future. The results of the study shows that quality work is everyone's responsibility. Quality work is naturally integrated into the business, which is perceived to increase a sense of responsibility and ownership of the work tasks, which leads to increased goal fulfillment. The results of the study show that Teal organizations have a high degree of participation. At the core of Teal is transparency, self-organization, and a learning culture. By not limiting employees by hierarchy and fixed roles, but by organizing themselves in managerless teams, it contributesto increased job satisfaction. Employees are allowed to try out new roles, develop their entire skills and contribute to the development of others. The study also shows that Teal can lead to increased business results.
