Abstract [en]

To decrease the strain on the healthcare and increase autonomy for older adults monitoring devices are used. The most common monitoring device used in Sweden by older adults is Person Response Systems (PERS). Due to the great usage of PERS among older adults, it is interesting to study the use of monitoring devices and their impact on integrity of this age group as well as building a prototype based on best practices. The most common types of PERS are proximity, emergency, and mobile alarms. The method consists of literature research as well as prototype building with Arduino nano and android studios. The result indicates that the challenges are the battery life and storage of data. The most used PERS in Stockholm are produced by Legrand Care and Minifinder. The finished prototype cost 423 SEK to build, doesn’t store data and has a battery life of 139 hours. Further research should focus on optimizing the design, choice of battery and produce a finished product based on the prototype.
