Abstract [en]

Anthropogenic activities affect the world's biodiversity and lead to dramatic changes in patterns of species assemblage and ecosystem diversity. Extinction of species occurs on both a global and local level. Soil constitutes a significant reservoir of biological diversity which supports the maintenance of life on land and in water – ecosystem services that form the core to support human life.

The purpose of this study has been to investigate the state of knowledge represented among private and public actors in construction projects regarding the impact of anthropogenic activities affecting soil's biological diversity.

A literature study has been carried out to identify anthropogenic activities that affect soil biodiversity in construction and civil engineering projects. The results of the literature study have then informed the empirical part of the study, which was carried out using a qualitative and quantitative survey study that has been answered by private and public actors working within construction.

The results of the assessment study identified seven anthropogenic activities that have an impact on soil biodiversity. In large part all of the actors surveyed took action towards reducing negative impact on some of the identified activities. At the same time, the result indicates that there are actors who never apply direct interventions or do not know if interventions are applied regarding some of the influencing activities. The results also show that several respondents consider themselves to lack knowledge of appropriate measures and request more support to be able to take appropriate measures to promote soil biodiversity in construction and civil engineering projects.
