Background: Dentists face various challenges in the workplace that affect their well-being in both physical and mental aspects. The primary aim of this study is to explore key improvements in the work environment that dentists consider crucial for creating a more attractive work environment, utilizing the Job Demands-Resources model.

Method: The study utilized a qualitative research approach, conducting semi-structured interviews with eight dentists employed at Folktandvården in Sweden, and subsequently conducted content analysis on the collected data. These dentists, who had experiences ranging from 1 to 9 years, provided insights into the physical and psychosocial aspects of their work environments.

Results: Challenges related to time management, dentistry tasks, ergonomic and physical aspects of the workplace, and issues with management and dental nurses were identified. Additionally, current resources such as ergonomic equipment and suggestions for improvements were explored, including increasing treatment time, providing additional training, expanding dental team, conducting regular ergonomist check-ups, and implementing quality-based evaluations.

Conclusion: To provide an attractive work environment for dentists, leadership support, reducing time pressure, quality-based evaluation, fostering collaboration among dentists, enhancing dental nurses' workflow through additional training, and providing further training for both dentists and dental nurses are crucial.
