    Abstract [sv]

Two Years)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

0.3 byr of drainage stability along the Palaeozoic palaeo-Pacific Gondwana margin; a detrital zircon study2015In: Journal of the Geological Society, ISSN 0016-7649, E-ISSN 2041-479X, Vol. 172, p. 186-200Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The palaeo-Pacific margin of Gondwana in the present-day south–central Andes is marked by tectonic activity related to subduction and terrane accretion. We present detrital zircon U–Pb data encompassing the Palaeozoic era in northern Chile and northwestern Argentina. Cathodoluminescence images reveal dominantly magmatic zircon barely affected by abrasion and displaying only one growth phase. The main age clusters for these zircon grains are Ediacaran to Palaeozoic with an additional peak at 1.3–0.9 Ga and they can be correlated with ‘Grenvillian’ age, and the Brasiliano, Pampean, and Famatinian orogenies. The zircon data reveal main transport from the nearby Ordovician Famatinian arc and related rocks. The Silurian sandstone units are more comparable with Cambrian units, with Brasiliano and Transamazonian ages (2.2–1.9 Ga) being more common, because the Silurian deposits were situated within or east of the (extinct) Famatinian arc. Hence, the arc acted as a transport barrier throughout Palaeozoic time. The complete suite of zircon ages does not record the accretions of exotic terranes or the Palaeozoic glacial periods. We conclude that the transport system along the palaeo-Pacific margin of Gondwana remained stable for c. 0.3 byr and that provenance data do not necessarily reflect the interior of a continent. Hence, inherited geomorphological features must be taken into account when detrital mineral ages are interpreted.

    0.4 THz Photonic-Wireless Link with 106 Gbit/s Single Channel Bitrate2018In: Journal of Lightwave Technology, ISSN 0733-8724, E-ISSN 1558-2213, Vol. 36, no 2, p. 610-616Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

To accommodate the demand of exponentially increased global wireless data traffic, the prospective data rates for wireless communication in the market place will soon reach 100 Gbit/s and beyond. In the lab environment, wireless transmission throughput has been elevated to the level of over 100 Gbit/s attributed to the development of photonic-assisted millimeter wave (MMW) and THz technologies. However, most of recent demonstrations with over 100 Gbit/s data rates are based on spatial or frequency division multiplexing techniques, resulting in increased system's complexity and energy consumption. Here, we experimentally demonstrate a single channel 0.4 THz photonic-wireless link achieving a net data rate of beyond 100 Gbit/s by using a single pair of THz emitter and receiver, without employing any spatial/frequency division multiplexing techniques. The high throughput up to 106 Gbit/s within a single THz channel is enabled by combining spectrally efficient modulation format, ultra-broadband THz transceiver and advanced digital signal processing (DSP) routine. Besides that, our demonstration from system-wide implementation viewpoint also features high transmission stability, and hence shows its great potential to not only decrease the system's complexity, but also meet the requirements of prospective data rates for bandwidth-hungry short-range wireless applications.

    Abstract [en]

We present experimental studies of crossings of spin-split one-dimensional subbands in ballistic quantum wires in an in-plane magnetic field B ?. At low electron densities, a spontaneous spin-splitting occurs as subbands cross, which gives rise to additional non-quantised conductance structures called 0.7 analogues. We analyse the data within a spin-density-functional model, which includes exchange interactions in a magnetic field. Focussing on the region of the crossings of spin-split subbands, it is found that the energy levels rearrange as they cross due to exchange interactions. © 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

07221 Executive Summary: Information Visualization - Human-Centered Issues in Visual Representation, Interaction, and Evaluation2007Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Information Visualization (InfoVis) focuses on the use of visualization techniques to help people understand and analyze data. While related fields such as Scientific Visualization involve the presentation of data that has some physical or geometric correspondence, Information Visualization centers on abstract information without such correspondences.

One important aim of this seminar was to bring together theoreticians and practitioners from Information Visualization and related fields as well as from application areas. The seminar has allowed a critical reflectionon actual research efforts, the state of field, evaluation challenges, etc. This document summarizes the event.

    Abstract [en]

This paper discusses a radio outburst in the BL Lac-object 0735+178 which started in early 1988, ended during 1990 and was succeeded by a new outburst which is still in progress. Our image obtained with a global VLBI network shows the source to mainly consist of a core-jet like structure ending in diffuse emission region of low surface brightness located to the east of the core. We identify two new components as having been produced during the late 1980's. They are moving out with apparent superluminal motion in a viewing angle of greater-than-or-similar-to 10-degrees at a distance of less-than-or-similar-to 2 mas from the core. The core includes another new component, but our resolution is just sufficient to resolve out this component from the core at our epoch of observation. We suggest that the weak emission region is caused by an older component reaching the point at which the Doppler boosting is at its maximum and that the long time scale flux variation are due to successive events when evolved components reach that point.

08/21/2013: En framingstudie av nyhetsrapporteringen kring gasattacken i Syrien2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Metoden som användes baseras på Baldwin Van Gorps modell för framinganalys framlagt i boken Doing News Framing Analysis: Empirical and Theoretical Perspectives (2010) i kapitlet Strategies to Take Subjectivity Out of Framing Analysis (s.84–109).

    Abstract [en]

In this letter, ultrathin gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) high-kappa gate dielectrics with complementary-metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS)-compatible fully silicided nickel-silicide metal gate electrodes are reported for the first time. MOS capacitors with a Gd2O3 thickness of 3.1 nm yield a capacitance equivalent oxide thickness of CET = 0.86 nm. The extracted dielectric constant is kappa =-13-14. Leakage currents and equivalent oxide thicknesses of this novel gate stack meet the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors targets for the near term schedule and beyond.

(087–090) Proposal to treat the use of a hyphen in the name of a fossil-genus as an orthographical error2015In: Taxon, ISSN 0040-0262, E-ISSN 1996-8175Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

We propose modifications to the Code such that use of a hyphen in the name of a fossil-genus is treated as an error to be corrected by deletion of the hyphen. This will circumvent the need to conserve the numerous de-hyphenated names against unused hyphenated forms. We propose changes to Art. 60 of the Code to allow this correction, and the addition of a phrase in Art. 20 to add clarity to the naming of fossil-genera.

    Abstract [en]

Swallowing difficulties occur as a part of the disease process in individuals with advanced dementia. Demands is set on the healthcare-staff to meet with these symptoms when the individual due to loss in cognitive function, lack a complete ability to claim autonomy regarding nutritional treatment. The issue arises regarding enteral feeding by PEG or NG-tube as a viable treatment option for these patients. Even if it is an encroachment and that the care instead should be performed from a palliative point of view. Registered nurses view their knowledge within the area as personal preferences that they cannot refer to in a clinical setting. The aim of this study was to explore the nurse´s ethical awareness regarding enteral nutrition to individuals with advanced dementia. The study was conducted from a qualitative approach with an empirical interview, a literature review and an ethical analysis concerning the nurse’s possible actions’ in the decision making-process. Conclusions of this study consists to a part of that the nurse should act as the patient’s advocate regarding from what’s perceived to be the best for the patient and the patient’s wishes. Also, not supporting the doctor’s decision of tube feeding to these patients’ and to contribute to a dignified death within the palliative domain, with least possible suffering as a result.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Many quality methods used in the west are not appropriate in this situation. There is a need to find a “way to quality” which is appropriate. Several studies show that most people in developing countries are not satisfied with the quality of public and private care and feel that something should be done.

    Abstract [sv]

1 1/2 mil härifrån står världens största slag: Gustaf Hellström som korrespondent i första världskrigets Frankrike2014Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

1(-) and 2(+) discrete states in Zr-90 populated via the (O-17, O-17 'gamma) reaction2015In: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics, ISSN 0556-2813, E-ISSN 1089-490X, Vol. 91, no 2, article id 024323Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

2(+) and 1(-) states in Zr-90 were populated via the (O-17, O-17 'gamma) reaction at 340 MeV. The gamma decay was measured with high resolution using the AGATA (advanced gamma tracking array demonstrator array). Differential cross sections were obtained at few different angles for the scattered particle. The results of the elastic scattering and inelastic excitation of 2(+), 3(,)(-) and 1(-) states are compared with distorted-wave Born approximation (DWBA) calculations, using both the standard collective form factor and a form factor obtained by folding microscopically calculated transition densities. This allowed to extract the isoscalar component of the 1(-) state at 6.424 MeV. The comparison of the present (17O, 17O 'gamma) data with existing (gamma, gamma') and (p, p') data in the corresponding region of the gamma continuum (6-11 MeV), characterized by a large E1 component, shows completely different behaviors of the cross section as a function of the nuclear excitation energy. The comparison of the data with DWBA calculations suggests a decrease of the isoscalar strength in the cross section with increasing excitation energy.

    1. Asymmetric aldol and alkylation reactions using pyrrolidine-based chiral auxiliaries 2. Syntheses of pine sawfly pheromone precursors and structurally related compounds2002Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other scientific)
    Abstract [en]

This thesis describes the syntheses of the 1-propionylatedauxiliaries (S)-(− )-2-(pyrrolidin-2-yl)propan-2-ol and (S)-(− )-2-(1-methoxy-1-methylethyl)pyrrolidine andtheir use in asymmetric aldol and alkylation reactions. Thesynthesis of 1-propionylated (2S,4R) 2-{4-[(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)oxy]pyrrolidin-2-yl}propan-2-olis also described. The effects on the stereoselectivity, byvariations of solvent, temperature, Lewis acids as additive aswell as the amount of additive are studied. None of thepropionylated auxiliaries exhibited remarkable selectivity foreither diastereomer in aldol reactions with benzaldehyde. Bestresults were obtained with SnCl2as additive giving asyn:antiratio up to 73:27, and Cp2ZrCl2and Cp2TiCl2giving a reversedsyn:antiratio up to 27:73 for the former auxiliary. Highselectivity for onesynand oneantidiastereomer were obtained with TMS-Cl as anadditive. The latter propionylated auxiliary was less selectivethan the former. Reversal insyn/antiselectivity was observed when Cp2ZrCl2and Cp2TiCl2was used with asyn:antiratio = 68:32 and 33:67. In alkylation reactions, the former propionylated auxiliary showed lower and similarselectivity with benzyl bromide andn-butyl iodide, compared with the literature. Enhancedselectivity was obtained in the benzylation reactions (78% and84% diastereomeric excess), with LiCl and Cp2ZrCl2as additives. Cp2ZrCl2and Cp2TiCl2resulted in lower selectivity in butylationreactions. High selectivity was obtained for the latterpropionylated auxiliary and with a reversal in selectivity, compared with the former. Benzylation reactions resulted in82-98% diastereomeric excess, with the highest selectivity ofCp2ZrCl2as additive. In butylation reactions the use ofLiCl resulted in highest diastereomeric excess (94%).

The second part of the thesis describes the syntheses ofcompounds related to sex pheromones of pine sawflies. (2S,6R)-(− )-2,6-Dimethyl-1-octanol, a building blockin the synthesis of the sex pheromone of the pine sawflyMicrodiprion pallipesin high stereoisomeric purity wasprepared from the optically pure (S)-citronellal. Lipase-catalysed (Amano PS and Im-CRL)kinetic separations, based on selective acylation andesterification of (2R/S,6R)-2,6-dimethyl-1-octanol and the corresponding acidwere the key steps in this sequence. The alcohol precursors tosex pheromones ofDiprion nipponica,Macrodiprion nemoralisandMicrodiprion pallipeswere synthesised as racemicmixtures in moderate yields. Stereoisomeric mixtures of severalmethyl-branched long-chain 2-alkanols, structurally related tosex pheromone alcohol precursors of pine sawfly species, werealso synthesised in moderate yields. The key reaction in thesyntheses was the ring opening of&#947-butyrolactonesusing different alkyl lithiums as nucleophiles.
