    Abstract [en]

    A sensitive and label-free analytical approach for the detection of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) instead of PCV2 antibody in serum sample was systematically investigated in this research based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) with an establishment of special molecular identification membrane. The experimental device for constructing the biosensing analyzer is composed of an integrated biosensor, a home-made microfluidic module, and an electrical control circuit incorporated with a photoelectric converter. In order to detect the PCV2 using the surface plasmon resonance immunoassay, the mercaptopropionic acid has been used to bind the Au film in advance through the known form of the strong S-Au covalent bonds formed by the chemical radical of the mercaptopropionic acid and the Au film. PCV2 antibodies were bonded with the mercaptopropionic acid by covalent -CO-NH- amide bonding. For the purpose of evaluating the performance of this approach, the known concentrations of PCV2 Cap protein of 10 mu g/mL, 7.5 mu g/mL, 5 mu g/mL, 2.5 mu g/mL, 1 mu g/mL, and 0.5 mu g/mL were prepared by diluting with PBS successively and then the delta response units (Delta RUs) were measured individually. Using the data collected from the linear CCD array, the Delta RUs gave a linear response over a wide concentration range of standard known concentrations of PCV2 Cap protein with the R-Squared value of 0.99625. The theoretical limit of detection was calculated to be 0.04 mu g/mL for the surface plasmon resonance biosensing approach. Correspondingly, the recovery rate ranged from 81.0% to 89.3% was obtained. In contrast to the PCV2 detection kits, this surface plasmon resonance biosensing system was validated through linearity, precision and recovery, which demonstrated that the surface plasmon resonance immunoassay is reliable and robust. It was concluded that the detection method which is associated with biomembrane properties is expected to contribute much to determine the PCV2 in sample solutions instead of PCV2 antibody in serum samples quantitatively.

    Abstract [en]

    Background: Prior pilot studies support the use of antiviral medications with topical corticosteroids for herpes simplex labialis (HSL). ME-609 (Xerese, Xerclear) is a combination of 5% acyclovir and 1% hydrocortisone developed for the topical treatment of HSL. Objectives: The primary study end point was the prevention of ulcerative HSL lesions. Methods: In all, 2437 patients with a history of HSL were randomized to self-initiate treatment with ME-609, 5% acyclovir in ME-609 vehicle, or ME-609 vehicle (placebo) at the earliest sign of a cold sore recurrence. Cream was applied 5 times/d for 5 days. A total of 1443 patients experienced a recurrence and initiated treatment with ME-609 (n = 601), acyclovir (n = 610), or placebo (n = 232). Results: Of patients receiving ME-609, 42% did not develop an ulcerative lesion compared with 35% of patients receiving acyclovir in ME-609 vehicle (P = .014) and 26% of patients receiving placebo (P < .0001). In patients with ulcerative lesions, healing times were reduced in the ME-609 and acyclovir groups compared with placebo (P < .01 for both). The cumulative lesion area for all lesions was reduced 50% in patients receiving ME-609 compared with the placebo group (P < .0001). There were no differences among groups in the number of patients with positive herpes simplex virus cultures. The side-effect profile was similar among treatments. Limitations: The study did not contain a group treated with a topical corticosteroid alone. Conclusions: ME-609 prevented progression of cold sores to ulcerative lesions and significantly reduced the cumulative lesion area compared with acyclovir and placebo. ME-609 treatment offers additional therapeutic benefit compared with therapy with topical acyclovir alone. (J Am Acad Dermatol 2011;64:696-705.)

    Inventeringar av kalkhällmarker i östra Dalsland2013Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Naturcentrum AB har på uppdrag av Länsstyrelsen i Västra Götaland genomfört inventeringar av naturvårdsintressanta arter på kalkhällmarker i östra Dalsland. Inventeringen har fokuserat på särskilt intressanta arter t ex rödlistade arter, sällsynta arter m m, inom grupperna fjärilar, bin, lavar, mossor och marksvampar. Dessutom har presenteras spridda observationer inom andra grupper, till exempel tvåvingar och trollsländor.

    De dalsländska kalkrika lerskifferhällmarkerna utgörs av någon mil breda, omvandlade berggrundsstråk i de mellersta och östra delarna av landskapet. Dessa kalkmarker skiljer sig från de geologiskt yngre och sedimentära kalkområdena som är typiska för till exempel Öland och Gotland. Förutsättningarna för floran och faunan i Dalslands kalkområden är unika genom det milda och fuktiga klimatet och att markke- min avviker något från de flesta andra kalkrika trakterna i Sverige. Dessa specifika förhållanden gynnar en lång rad sällsynta eller rödlistade arter.

    Fyra av de besökta områdena ligger på Ryrhalvön norr om Köpmannebro och den femte vid Ånimskogs kyrka. Samtliga delområden utgörs av västvända branter i direkt anslutning till sjöarna Ånimmen och Östebosjön. Miljöerna är generellt öppna och det västvända läget skapar ett varmt och solexponerat mikroklimat. I anslutning till de kala hällarna finns partier med tunna, kalkhaltiga jordlager och grusmarker. Graden av beskogning varierar både inom och mellan de olika delområdena.

    Inventeringarna genomfördes under några dagar under sommaren 2006 samt med en dags kompletterande lavinventering under februari 2008. Totalt på träffades 24 rödlistade arter fördelade enligt följande; sju fjärilsarter, två biarter, tre lavar, sex olika mossor och sex arter av svampar. Flera av dessa är ytterst sällsynta och har sin huvudsakliga utbredning i landet på dessa kalkrika lerskifferhällar. Vidare noterades ett 30-tal nya arter för landskapet Dalsland. Det största antalet nya fynd gjordes inom gruppen insekter vilket visar att kännedomen om landskapets insektsfauna är mycket bristfällig.

    Klot-tegellaven Psora globifera är klassad som starkt hotad (EN) och har huvuddelen av sina kända före- komster i kalkrika områden i Dalsland. Arten växer på lättvittrade, solexponerade, kalklerskifferhällar. I delområde 3 förekommer arten rikligt och i delområde 4 något mera sparsamt. Klotsporig skifferlav Sarcogyne distinguenda (VU) är en annan mycket sällsynt lav med få kända lokaler i landet av vilken den ena utgörs av delområde 5 (Carlsson 1998). Arten är knuten till klippor av kalklerskiffer. Det stora antalet arter gelélavar Collema spp. (sju stycken) är anmärkningsvärt även om ingen av arterna är rödlistade. Av mos-sorna bör särskilt nämnas hår-rosettmossa Riccia ciliata (VU), dvärgrosettmossa Riccia warnstorfii (VU) och trubbklockmossa Encalypta mutica (NT) vilka alla är mer eller mindre knutna till kalkhällar eller kalkrika jordar. Rosettmossorna växer rikligt i delområde 1 medan trubbklockmossan, som omfattas av habitatdi-rektivet inom Natura 2000, noterades i delområde 5. Brun fingersvamp Clavaria pullei (EN) noterades på gräsmarkerna i delområde 5. Arten verkar vara knuten till öppna och hävdade kalkrika marker. Bland in-sekterna utgör nyponsandbiet Andrena nitida (VU), fibblesandbiet A. fulvago (NT) och jungfrulinpraktmal Hypercallia citrinalis (NT) några av de mest anmärkningsvärda arterna. Nyponsandbiet som noterades i del-område 1 är mycket sällsynt och observerades senast 1949 i Dalsland.

    Inventeringarna som utförts är av stickprovskaraktär och det bedöms som sannolikt att fler värdefulla arter kan påträffas vid fördjupade inventeringar. Detta gäller både de behandlade delområdena och kalk-lerskiffermarker i allmänhet.

    Abstract [en]

    A Chinese proverb observes that women “hold up half the sky”, yet often in science education we have ignored the knowledge generated by feminist researchers about how females engage and participate in science. Further, science education has often failed to consider the implications from feminist critiques of science on science education. This chapter will provide a feminist perspective on who generates knowledge in science education and what knowledge is acceptable as ‘scientific’ by the field. Second, we will discuss the culture of science education and discuss whether science educators value the knowledge produced by gender and feminist researchers. In particular, we will examine the integration (or lack thereof) of gender issues into the dominant areas in science education research, such as teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge, the development of students’ science knowledge through inquiry, the role of conceptual change, and teachers’ preparation and professional development programs. Third, we will provide examples of how gender theory and feminist perspectives in science education could generate new knowledge about gender and science education.

    Syftet med denna studie är att undersöka vad som händer i olika naturvetenskapliga situationer i den fria verksamheten i förskolan. På vilket sätt tas sådana situationer tillvara på av pedagogen? Jag har använt mig av videoobservationer i två förskolor i Mellansverige för att försöka upptäcka situationer i den fria verksamheten som har potential att bli en naturvetenskaplig lärandesituation för barnen. I studien observerades 11 pedagoger. Resultatet visade att det finns potential för att utveckla naturvetenskapligt lärande för barnen i den fria verksamheten i förskolan. I analysen av situationerna visas möjliga sätt att genom Anderssons & Gullbergs (2011) ämnesdidaktisk kompetenser använda situationerna till naturvetenskapliga lärandesituationer. I många fall uppmärksammade inte pedagogen det naturvetenskapliga innehållet i situationen, vilket leder till att barnen inte stöds i sitt utforskande inom de naturvetenskapliga ämnesområdena. I flera fall där pedagogen uppmärksammade det naturvetenskapliga innehållet i situationen var det genom att de iakttagit ett problem som pedagogen såg lösningen på.

    Abstract [en]

    Leaf trichomes can protect plants against herbivory and drought, but can be costly to produce. Theory suggests that selection for reduced costs of resistance may result in the evolution of inducible defences. We quantified variation in tolerance to drought and defoliation, and tested the hypotheses that (a) tolerance is associated with cost, (b) leaf trichome production increases tolerance to drought, and (c) trichome production is increased in response to defoliation and drought stress in Arabidopsis lyrata (Brassicaceae). Eight maternal half-sib families were exposed to two watering regimes and four defoliation treatments in a factorial design. Tolerance to drought varied among families and was inversely related to leaf size, but was not related to trichome density. Family mean performance in the low-watering treatment tended to correlate negatively with that in the control treatment. Trichome production was not induced by defoliation or drought stress. The results suggest that there is genetic variation in tolerance to drought in the study population, that tolerance to drought is associated with a cost, and that trichome production does not increase tolerance to drought in A. lyrata.

    Abstract [en]

    The radio frequency transmitter is a key component in contemporary MIMO OFDM systems. A detailed study of a 2&#x00D7;2 MIMO transmitter subjected to correlated input data streams, nonlinear distortion, thermal noise, and crosstalk is provided by stochastic modeling. The effects of correlated input streams, crosstalk and nonlinearities are studied in detail, and exemplified both by approximate expressions and numerical simulations. Key results include exact and approximate expressions for the normalized mean-squared error (NMSE) for systems with or without digital predistortion, the relationship between NMSE and the signal-to-noise-and-distortion ratio, the properties of the distortion noise, and a novel design for power amplifier back-off for MIMO-transmitters subject to crosstalk. The theoretical derivations are illustrated by numerical examples and simulation results, and their relationship to state-of-the-art research are discussed. OAPA

    Den mest använda definitionen av begreppet hålbar utveckling lyder: ”En hållbar utveckling är en utveckling som tillfredsställer dagens behov utan att äventyra kommande generationers möjligheter att tillfredsställa sina behov”. Definitionen kommer från rapporten ”Vår gemensamma framtid” från 1987. Hållbar utveckling omfattar ekonomiska, ekologiska och sociala aspekter samt samspelet och balansen mellan dem. Kortfattat kan hållbar utveckling förklaras med att ekonomisk utveckling inte får ske med risk för social ohälsa, ett ojämlikt samhälle eller en förstörd miljö. Det internationella arbetet för hållbar utveckling leds av FN. EU:s och Sveriges arbete för hållbar utveckling är en långsiktig hållbarhetsvision gällande ekonomisk tillväxt, social sammanhållning och miljöskydd. All politik och verksamhet ska genomsyras av detta. Även Sveriges miljöpolitik bygger till stor del på internationellt samarbete och på beslut som tas inom EU. Arbetet för en hållbar utveckling ingår numera i praktiskt taget all samhälls-planering, och genom kommunernas arbete är det möjligt att engagera varje enskild medborgare.

    En hållbar trädgård är på många sätt en klimatvänlig trädgård, och uppsatsen tar upp hur man genom hållbar trädgårdsanläggning kan reducera negativ miljöpåverkan. I princip all användning av energi påverkar miljön och klimatet negativt och därför bör man kraftigt minska energi-förbrukningen genom att t.ex. minska användandet av bensindrivna trädgårdsverktyg. Även mängderna gödningsmedel och bekämpningsmedel bör minskas eftersom de kräver energi både vid tillverkning och transport. Genom att odla ätbara grödor kan man minska sina ekologiska fotavtryck. Detta tack vare skillnaden i energiförbrukning mellan mat som odlas i trädgården och modern livsmedelsproduktion. Människans förbrukning av vatten ökar hela tiden och även den mängd som används i trädgården. Större förståelse för hur vattning fungerar kan göra stor skillnad för hur vi använder vattnet som resurs. Att kompostera är även det en viktig beståndsdel i en hållbar trädgård. I stället för att deponera organiskt avfall kan man förvandla samma avfall till jordförbättringsmedel.

    Trädgårdsskötsel är en global industri som uppmuntrar till mer konsumtion av massproducerade föremål. Att tillverka trädgårdsprodukter nyttjar naturresurser och energi. Att konsumera påverkar en hållbar utveckling, så som konsument bör man välja hållbara material. Detsamma gäller vid konsumtion av växter. Den mängd energi som krävts för att odla växten, för transport, för tillverkning av krukan samt hur mycket och vilken typ av underhåll som växten kommer att kräva väl planterad har stor betydelse. En mångfald av växter är nyckeln till den hållbara trädgården, en mångfald av växter bidrar till ett rikare djurliv vilket också gynnar biologisk bekämpning. En enskild trädgård innehållande en stor mångfald av växter kan bidra meningsfullt till att säkra den globala biologiska mångfalden eftersom hundratals miljoner enskilda trädgårdar världen över tillsammans bildar ett enormt nätverk med fickor av liv.

    Abstract [en]

    This paper presents the results of the design and characterization of a loop antenna for mobile cellularh andsets. Based on a typical smart phone antenna geometry, a bottom mounted off-ground meanderline loop antennah as been designed, which has the potential to cover the required bands of Long Term Evolution (LTE) US 700MHz, Global System for Mobile communications (GSM) 824-960MHz, Digital Communication System (DCS) 1710-1880 MHz, Personal Communication Services PCS 1850-1990 MHz, Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) 1920-2170MHz and LTE EU 2500. The carrier volume of 50*10*5mm3 and ground plane of length 100mm is used. The carrier permittivity εr is 2.66 and loss tangent tanδ is 0.00629 @2.44GHz. Copper is used as a metal part of the antenna having conductivity of 5.8e7 S/m and thickness of 0.1mm. The antenna supports balanced and unbalanced modes for certain frequencies. It is highly efficient in terms of small volumetric size for a given bandwidth of operations. The antenna generates weak near field electric and magnetic fields complying with the standards for the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) and Hearing Aid Compability (HAC). The impact of body effects on the radiation efficiency has been quantified. The measured results of the prototype are in good agreement with the simulated results.

    As the ageing society's problems evolve, mobility aid requirements are beginning to gain impetus and detailed studies on humans performing their normal activities for daily living are becoming urgent. The paper presents the design of a lower-body exoskeleton, which can be easily put on and worn, and used for recording human motions. In this way, the mobility requirements for performing daily living tasks are determined. The research involves the design of a 4 degree of freedom (DOF) lower-body prototype system used in acquiring basic motion data from volunteers as they perform basic walking tasks using embedded sensors for recording the hip and knee angles and transmitting them wirelessly. Walking tests with 20 volunteers are carried out after ethical considerations have been addressed; these cover human safety, full informed consent and privacy ensured by presenting the results in an anonymous manner.

    Abstract [en]

    In this paper a synthetic vector network analyzing measurement system is presented. The system is based on a hardware set-up, including a signal generator and a vector signal analyzer, with the vector network analyzing functionality implemented in the software. The measurements of the proposed system demonstrated comparable performance in terms of accuracy and speed compared with a modern traditional vector network analyzer, but it is more flexible due to its inherent software implementation. The proposed system’s ability to measure nonlinear phenomena is addressed and discussed, and some preliminary results are given.

    Abstract [en]

    The planar dual band monopole antenna is presented in this project report for Long Term Evolution (LTE). The proposed planar monopole antenna is selected because of its simple structure, cost effective components and excellent performance. The antenna operates in 3.4 GHz to 3.6 GHz and 3.6 GHz to 3.8 GHz in desired LTE frequency band. The frequency bands 3.4- 3.6 GHz and 3.6- 3.8 GHz are already available as a study of current plan according to UMTS and LTE   systems.  

    The designed antenna works parallel with the LTE radio access; packet core networks are also involved. A very well developed and good designed antenna relaxes the other system components and improves the performances of the whole system. For the portable application and for the multiband scenario, planar monopole is the best candidate for the proposed two bands. LTE (3.4 GHz-3.6 GHz) and LTE-Advanced (3.6 GHz-3.8 GHz) antennas are designed for portable wireless devices.

    Radiation pattern and operating frequency are varied according to feeding of antenna.  Return loss, radiation pattern, antenna efficiency, bandwidth and gain are important parameters of the designed antenna and are measured after simulation through CST Microwave Studio. The designed antenna is then fabricated in KTH antenna Lab.

    The results are presented of the numerical solution to the forward problem of the electromagnetic wave scattering by inhomogeneous dielectric bodies in a waveguide and inverse problem of determining parameters of dielectric inclusions from the values of the transmission coefficient of the scattered electromagnetic wave. A comparison with the results of mesurements and analysis of the achieved threshold computational accuracy levels enable one to estimate and validate the simulation results and formulate the ways of improving the model and codes.

    Abstract [en]

    The combined system with microstrip antennas (f1=1.85GHz; f2=3.7GHz, f3=1.75GHz, f4= 3.5GHz) is presented. The measurements of the prototype characteristics have shown that elevation angle of peak directivity of the antennas is oriented to zenith. Simulated S11 at stated frequencies with the following minimum values of S11 = -34dB, f=1.85GHz; S11=-21dB, f=3.7GHz; S11 = -22dB, f=1.75GHz; S11=-19dB, f=3.5GHz are observed.

    Abstract [en]

    An X-band radiator as an open-ended waveguide with a hybrid dielectric insert is proposed. The insert is in the form of a parallelepiped, which fills the entire cross section of the waveguide and constitutes a Teflon matrix with local inhomogeneities in the form of dielectric cylinders with a different permittivity. The design allows for forming various near-field distributions and, hence, the radiator performance by means of definite combinations of the local inhomogeneities can be modified. A number of configurations in the location of air and quartz cylinders are investigated. The calculated and experimental results are in good agreement. The proposed approach to the near-field formation of the aperture antenna is promising, because the variety of possible configurations in the location of local inhomogeneities with different permittivity provides new opportunities in terms of designing both single radiators and antenna arrays.

    Scientists and engineers measure dielectric constant because it gives them better understanding of materials and helps them to know how to integrate these materials into their design processes;it also helps them to shorten design life cycle,and aside these two functions,it has numerous uses all of which cannot be enumerated in this section.Owing to its usefulness,various measurement methods of dielectric constant of materials have been developed over the years.Each method has its limitations which affect the accuracy of the measurement;these limitations range from frequency,temperature,and  mearsurement environment to material under test.

     

    In this thesis,four most common methods of measuring dielectric constant were discussed and the most accurate one,the resonant method,was chosen and worked on .The project was executed by making a mathematical analysis of the ring resonator which was later simulated in HFSS to get results which would be comparable to ones obtained in  laboratory measurements.

     

    The ring was fabricated and taken to the laboratory for measurement.Two monopole antennas were connected to the two ports of a VNA with one antenna serving as the transmitter and the other serving as the receiver.

     

    The resonant frequencies obtained were combined with the geometric parameters of the ring resonator and that of the MUT in equations written into MATLAB scripts;this equations were used to extract the dielectric constant of the MUT.

    Abstract [en]

    In the future, personal care robots will work in close interaction with humans. This poses a great challenge to the manufacturers of such robots who have to ensure the safety of their systems. Up to now, only general safety standards for machines were available and the lack of a specialized safety standard with detailed requirements has resulted in uncertainty and a relatively high residual risk for manufacturers. This situation is changed with the publication of ISO 13482, a safety standard for personal care robots. This paper gives an overview about the contents of the new safety standard and the expected effects for service robot manufacturers and the way, personal care robots will be developed in the future. The scope of the standard and its application in the risk assessment process is described. Special focus lies on the aspect of intended close-interaction and contact between human and robot, and the possibility to validate that all safety requirements have been met.

    The aim of the present study was to investigate cognitive, emotional, and physiological effects of two background noise conditions (high noise: 51 LAeq and low noise: 39 LAeq) during work in a simulated open-plan office, followed by four restoration conditions (river movie with sound, only river sound, silence, and office noise) after the work period. Students (N = 47) went through one practice session and two experimental sessions, one each with the low and high noise conditions. In each experimental session they worked for two hours with tasks involving basic working memory processes. We also took physiological measures of stress (cortisol and catecholamine) and self-reports of mood and fatigue. The results showed that the participants remembered fewer words, rated themselves as more tired and less motivated in high noise compared to low noise. The participants showed high levels of cortisol when they arrived to the experimental session and they had a significant (p <.001) decline in both noise conditions after two hours of work. An identical decline was shown in the norepinephrine levels (p < 0.001). The restoration phase also indicated that the sound conditions may promote different restorative experiences. To conclude, the present study showed that noise level can be of importance for working memory performance and subjective feelings of tiredness and motivation in an open-plan office and that varying sound conditions may promote different restorative experiences.

    Abstract [en]

    Creating a city that is both dense and green could result in conflicts. The aim with this report is to describe how the municipality of Malmö works with densification and at the same time creating green environments. Also, the aim is to describe how densification and greenery in the city are problematized by researchers. It was shown in the empirical study that it is a political directive to create a dense and green cite. To be able to create this, all of the interviewees refers to the comprehensive plan of Malmö. The methods the municipality of Malmö uses to create green environments during densification varies from different projects, considers John Lepic. The results in the literature survey show that greenery often is identified as a key ingredient of a sustainable city (Boverket 2002; Jim 2004). In order to systematically create a greener city the spatial planning and data produced in connection with it are important tools (Nordmalm, et al. 1999). To create exciting and interesting environments both quantity and quality are important (Jim 2004). Greenery could be introduced in cities in many ways. Even if the wildest ideas may not be reality, it is possible to get inspiration from these ideas and with their help find new solutions.

    Abstract [en]

    Considering urban trees importance for humans in both environmental and health aspects, this study aimed to explore appropriate urban tree species and varieties with a focus on prevention for current and future epidemics. The basis for this study is Gävle. It is of interest to see what suited a little further north in Sweden, zone 4. This literature survey is based on scientific articles, other literary writings and conversations references with industry expertise and these issues have been the focus. * How does the city tree population looks in Gävle today? * How to choose the new urban trees based on current and future disease epidemics? * What park trees and street trees are suitable for planting in Gävle in order to increase diversity? Gävle has previously, like many other municipalities, planted trees prevailing on trends. This has resulted in an over-representation of the tree genera Tilia, Sorbus and Acer. Invasive disease similar to Ash dieback and Dutch elm disease can knock out large parts of the urban tree population caused by monoculture. Diversity is of great importance in this regard. City tree population should not exceed more than 10% of a species, 20% of a family or more than 30% of a family. It has been a two folded guidelines in the selection of urban trees:

    * Get a better understanding of the prevailing conditions in the urban environment and to enhance the experience on which species thrive in these conditions. * Expand the existing tree population by gathering more knowledge and dare to try new and / or untested species. Recommendations of street trees and park trees in both zone 3 and zone 4 are presented in the report. Interestingly, it emerged both species / varieties that occur in nurseries today but also tree species / varieties that have not yet been introduced.

    Abstract [sv]

    Tidigare analyser som gjorts på läromedel har främst handlat om läromedel för högstadiet och gymnasiet. Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka vilken bild läromedel för årskurs 4-6 som används inom NO undervisningen ger eleverna ur ett genusperspektiv. Fokuset ligger på biologi vid textanalys och vid analys av bilder bedömas böckerna i sin helhet. Metoden som använts vid analysen är en kombination av kvalitativa och kvantitativa data. Dels redovisas fördelningen av bilder på män och kvinnor i böckerna och olika delar av texten som har analyserats efter frågeställningarna. För att tillvägagångssättet ska vara tydligt har jag konstruerat ett analysschema samt frågor till texten. Resultaten visar att män får större utrymme i de flesta böcker och att könsstereotypa normer befästs men att det skiljer mellan olika böcker hur bra de är ur ett genusperspektiv. Slutsatsen är att det är viktigt att göra medvetna val då läromedlen ska köpas in till skolorna.

    Abstract [sv]

    Syftet med detta arbete är att ta reda på vilka problem det finns i perennplanteringarna i offentliga miljöer samt hur man kan förebygga problemen och hur man bygger upp växtbäddar för perenner utifrån ett hållbarhetsperspektiv. Undersökningen genomfördes hösten 2011 och baserades på litteratur som böcker, artiklar, faktablad samt intervjuer. I undersökningen ingick fem angränsande kommuner till Gävle samt tre erkända trädgårdsmästare. Utgångspunkten för valet av trädgårdsmästarna var att de skulle ha erfarenhet av att skapa väl fungerande och hållbara exempel på offentliga perennplanteringar i Sverige.

    Det finns många olika orsaker till att perennrabatterna i våra offentliga miljöer inte ser så attraktiva ut. Oavsett orsak så kan man säga att grundproblemet är bristfällig kunskap och eventuellt brist i kommunikationsleden från ”idé till planta” när det gäller de offentliga planteringarna.

    Det är många delar som är viktiga i en växtbädd för att perenner, träd och buskar ska kunna etablera sig och utveckla sin prakt år efter år. En av dessa komponenter är en bra jord. Det är viktigt att man väljer en rotogräsfri jord utifrån växtvalet redan från början. Ett av problemen i kommunerna var att fel sorts jord hade använts från början. Trots att alla påstod att de använde sig enbart av rotogräsfri jord i dagsläget så hade de problem med ogräs. Två orsaker till detta kan vara att man väljer fel växter och att skötseln inte fungerar, vilket resulterar i att ogräset tar över.

    Den perfekta växtbädden, finns den? Eftersom det är naturen vi arbetar med är det svårt att uppnå det ultimata resultatet, men vi kan göra det bästa utifrån förutsättningarna som finns med alla de delar som ingår i en växtbädd.

    Syftet med mitt arbete är att ge barnen och pedagogerna bakomliggande kunskaper om processen från planta till kartong, för att de ska få en innebörd och mening med deras arbete att återvinna. Valet att göra ett arbete om pappersprocessen grundar sig på att det är ett material som barnen använder dagligen på förskolorna, kanske många gånger utan att riktigt reflektera över det. Jag ville skapa ett material som kunde inkludera så många delar av förskolans läroplan som möjligt.

    I detta examensarbete har jag skapat en film som barnen ska kunna titta på både med och utan vuxna, och till denna film skapade jag också ett arbetsmaterial som lärarna ska kunna använda sig av om de t ex vill använda materialet som ett temarbete.

    För att utvärdera materialet har jag visat det för några förskollärare och sedan intervjuat dem.

    Enligt mina intervjuer finns det hos förskollärarna en efterfrågan på material som är lätta att arbeta med, och de tyckte att mitt material kan vara användbart i syftet att främja och gynna arbetet med hållbar utveckling.

    Mina intervjuer visar att samarbeten med det omgivande samhället är nästan obefintliga på de här förskolorna. Samtidigt verkar en efterfrågan finnas hos förskollärarna på bra material, och det borde vara av samhällsintresse att inkludera förskolorna i arbetet att främja hållbar utveckling. Det är viktigt att förskolorna involveras i arbetet för att skapa en hållbar utveckling, och återvinning av material är en viktig del för att ta hänsyn till miljön och skapa en hållbar utveckling.

    Filters having smallest size, high power handling capability, high Q factor, operating frequency up to several gigahertz’s (GHz) and low cost are the demand of the market to use in front end wireless/radio communication systems. In this regard several filter technologies have been introduced and utilized commercially. The increasing demand of such type of filters has opened a new challenge for filter designers.

    The purpose of this thesis is to design of a Tunable Bandpass Filter based on Barium Strontium Titanate (BSTO) Ferroelectric Film. A single Film bulk acoustic resonator (FBAR) is measured. MASON and Butterworth Van-Dyke (BVD) model are studied and implemented to reproduce the measurements. Simulations are performed by using the Advance Design System (ADS) by Agilent technologies. Simulations and measured data are used to exactly extract the physical and electrical parameters of a single FBAR.

    FBAR filter topologies are being studied and implemented. Ladder filter topology is selected to design the bandpass filter. The extracted physical and electrical parameters are used to investigate the performance of the filter. The area and the top electrode thickness of the series and shunt resonators are optimized to achieve the bandpass response with maximum out of band rejection, minimum insertion loss and sharper roll off near the pass band.

    A 3rd order T-type bandpass filter for 5GHz applications is designed. The insertion loss of -2.925 dB is achieved. The filter exhibits the 3dB bandwidth of 176 MHz and out of band rejection of -10 dB. DC bias of 0-25 V is used to analyze the tuning behavior of the filter.  The electromagnetic co-simulation is also done in momentum to analyze the parasitic effects between the resonators. The results show the good agreement between the schematic and momentum simulation.

    Layout and masks are also designed on a 10*10 mm wafer that will be used later to fabricate the filter and further investigations.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this paper is to investigate the parameters of one of the UWB Sensors, called Vivaldi Antenna, and to propose the new ways how they can be improved. As a practical implementation of the sensor, the UWB radar for wall penetrating applications with impulse excitation was utilized. For wall penetration low frequency (0.3 – 8 GHz) supporting UWB signals are required. Within the scope of this project, the Vivaldi antenna parameters are improved in order to optimize the radiation bandwidth with an usable gain response along the whole operating band, including lower frequencies. It also automatically leads to the optimization of the size of the antenna. In addition, an investigation of the phase linearity and UWB behavior of the antenna was carried out.

    The Internet of Things is a hot topic for development and research right now.More and more devices get connected to Internet by the day, but sometimesthe security of Internet of Things is neglected. Xavitech is a manufacturer ofmicropump that is interested in entering the world of the Internet of Things.This thesis work was done in collaboration with Xavitech and aimed to look athow an Internet of Things implementation for micropump could be designedin a secure manner. The goal was to design a concept application that could beused to calibrate micropumps remotely over the Internet, with primary focuson the security of the in-flight data of the application. When designing thisconcept application, an existing reference model was used as a basis. Acomparison of different protocols suitability for this application was alsoconducted and the most suitable protocol was implemented. The conceptapplication proposed in this thesis is an example of how a secure Internet ofThings implementation for micropumps can be designed.

    Learning from previous actions is a key feature of decision-making. Diverse biological systems, from neuronal assemblies to insect societies, use a combination of positive feedback and forgetting of stored memories to process and respond to input signals. Here we look how these systems deal with a dynamic two-armed bandit problem of detecting a very weak signal in the presence of a high degree of noise. We show that by tuning the form of positive feedback and the decay rate to appropriate values, a single tracking variable can effectively detect dynamic inputs even in the presence of a large degree of noise. In particular, we show that when tuned appropriately a simple positive feedback algorithm is Fisher efficient, in that it can track changes in a signal on a time of order L(h)= (vertical bar h vertical bar/sigma)(-2), where vertical bar h vertical bar is the magnitude of the signal and sigma the magnitude of the noise.

    Abstract [en]

    Physarum polycephalum (true slime mold) has recently emerged as a fascinating example of biological computation through morphogenesis. Despite being a single cell organism, experiments have observed that through its growth process, the Physarum is able to solve various minimum cost flow problems. This paper analyzes a mathematical model of the Physarum growth dynamics. We show how to encode general linear programming (LP) problems as instances of the Physarum. We prove that under the growth dynamics, the Physarum is guaranteed to converge to the optimal solution of the LP. We further derive an efficient discrete algorithm based on the Physarum model, and experimentally verify its performance on assignment problems.
