Powertrain Model Assesment for Different Driving Tasks through Requirement Verification2016In: Proceedings of the 9th EUROSIM Congress on Modelling and Simulation, 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

For assessing whether a system model is a good candidate for a particular simulation scenario or choosing the best system model between multiple design alternatives it is important to be able to evaluate the suitability of the system model. In this paper we present a methodology based on finite state machine requirements verifying system behavior in a Modelica environment where the intended system model usage is within a moving base driving simulator. A use case illustrate the methodology with a Modelica powertrain system model using replaceable components and measured data from a Golf V. The achieved results show the importance of context of requirements and how users are assisted in finding system model issues.

A Framework for Credibility Assessment of a Powertrain Model in Driving Simulator Studies2016In: Proceedings of the 36th FISITA World Automotive Congress, 2016Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

When performing a driving simulator study, validity of the vehicle model for the intended driving task is of key importance; otherwise, the reliability of the study results might be jeopardized. In this paper a framework for real-time credibility assessment of the simulated longitudinal dynamics by a powertrain model in a moving base driving simulator is presented. The framework consists of the physical system model and a quality model which run in parallel in real time. The developed framework has been evaluated by offline simulations, as well as in real-time in a moving base driving simulator. The evaluation results showed that the developed framework can accurately capture the validity of the powertrain model in different driving conditions and provide the credibility level of the simulation results to the simulator operator in real-time.

Otydligheter i beskrivningen av Use Case-tekniken i UML 1.32001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    * saknar stöd för på vilken nivå Use Cases skall utformas,

    * saknar bra exempel,

    * inte har tillräckligt fokus på syftet med Use Cases,

    * saknar stöd för hur Use Cases skall utformas,

    * inte beskriver skillnaden mellan generalisering och <<extend>>

    * inte beskriver skillnaden mellan <<include>> och <<extend>> tillräckligt väl.

A case study of documentation's significance: in ERP system development projects2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

    Abstract

In order to stay competitive in today’s changing business world, companies need to manage

the increased complexity as they evolve. To be able to handle this complexity, many companies

chose to implement an ERP system. Investing in an ERP system is not something that

is made in a trice but is a large investment which together with today’s low-profit margins in

companies makes it essential to keep the costs as low as possible. More than half of the total

cost for an ERP investment is said to be related to costs for the system’s maintenance and

support. Documentation is one of the factors which affect this cost, and if it is not made satisfactorily

it is said to result in a considerable increase of the system’s total cost. This is why

it is important not to overlook the documentation as a part of ERP system development

    project.

The purpose with this thesis is to investigate the existing documentation routines in ERP

system development projects at AB Volvo’s subsidiary Volvo IT, in order to find suggestions

of improvement for future projects. In order to fulfill the purpose of the study, we formed a

research question with three sub-questions and through a deep analysis of the empirical material

we presented the answers to these questions as the conclusions of this thesis.

Our study is based on an inductive research approach using a case study to gain deeper and

more helpful qualitative knowledge and data. The empirical data was analyzed using the

template analysis method where we divided the collected data into appropriate categories.

The knowledge created through this study is of exploratory, normative, predictive and categorical

    nature.

After having analyzed the results from our case study we found several suggestions of improvements

for Volvo IT to use in future projects. For other companies involved in ERP

system development projects of their own, the conclusions of this thesis will work as valuable

issues to take into consideration for upcoming projects. We have concluded that the

main reason behind lacking quality of documentation in the development projects is not the

unawareness of its importance, but the absence of concrete evidence of high quality documentation’s

positive effects on a system’s total cost. We believe that in order to achieve documentation

of high quality, there needs to be a change of attitude to documentation as a

work task and the task itself must be higher prioritized in the projects. Another important

suggestion is that a control of the conducted documentation’s quality must be done, not only

a control of the existence of the right kind of documents. We are of the opinion that a company

should not allocate resources to create a method of documentation before the importance

of high quality documentation is clarified. Ultimately, we believe that the system development

process should be focused around the customer, because of the more frequent use

of custom made solutions and to help the people in the project to set the right level of abstraction

    on the documentation.

    Abstract [en]

This thesis is a case study of the search function on the University of Uppsala’s web site. The search function in this study was chosen since it exists on a large and complex web site and there were apparent lacks in the old version of the search function. The thesis highlights some of the problems that can appear in the development of a search function on a local site. One interesting find is that one of the most difficult issues is organizational and not technical. Without a common strategy how to handle information is it very difficult to make good searches on the web site.

Användbarhetsaspekter i samband med systemutveckling1999Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Digital divides revisited: towards a model for analysis2004In: Electronic government: Proceedings of the third international conference, EGOV 2004, Zaragoza, Spain, August 30 - September 3, 2004 / [ed] Roland Traunmüller, Berlin: Springer , 2004, p. 289-292Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents a model for categories of divides, and how these categories are interrelated. The factors are found by a literature study from different countries attempting to measure various divides. The model is based on earlier research on the ‘divide’ and includes: physical access, autonomy of use, know-how and motivation. Depending on the type of digital divide and the local situation, rectifying efforts must address the most crucial factor, which could be any of the four. The paper also introduces the nature and amount of different proposed divides, and relations among factors.

Learning e-Learning: the restructuring of students beliefs and assumptions about learning2010In: International Journal on E-learning, ISSN 1537-2456, E-ISSN 1943-5932, Vol. 9, no 4, p. 435-461Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper builds on a case study on e-learning in Sri Lanka with focus on students’ underlying beliefs about how one learns. E-learning programs are most often set up with the assumption that students should think, act and learn independently and with underlying values of constructivism and learner–centred learning. For students used to classroom-based, didactic education the transition to the e-learning paradigm is, however, neither predetermined nor immediate. The objective of this paper is to find out if, and how, the e-learning practice manages to transform students into more independent and self sustaining learners. By drawing on Structuration Theory this study analyzes and compares novice and experienced students’ assumptions about learning when asking for a particular support function, because support needs should change if students start adopting the e-learning view on how learning is achieved. Findings show that students increasingly adopt the e-learning view on learning as they progress through the program. Students take increasingly more ownership of their learning and the teacher is no longer seen as the container of all knowledge. The importance of discussions also increases over time indicating that knowledge is no longer seen as being transmitted but rather created.

Letters from the field: e-learning students change of learning behaviour in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh2008In: Proceedings of ECEL 2008: 7th European conference on e-Learning, 2008, p. 29-37Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper reports the findings from two case studies on e-learning in Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. In these countries much hope is set on e-learning as a means to disseminate education to a larger population, but statistics show that drop out rates from e-learning courses are much higher than from traditional, classroom based, courses. In this paper it is argued that one reason for this is that the introduction of e-learning and a more student-centred learning model involves a drastic shift for students who are brought up in very teacher-centred didactic educational cultures. In order to investigate how this change in learning is perceived by its main stakeholders (i.e. the students) visits to learning centres in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh were made during 2007 and 2008. To capture the students’ opinions an open approach was chosen where students were asked to write letters about which major challenges they experience in changing their learning behaviour and completing the courses. Altogether the study is based on 107 student letters that have been analyzed and coded based on major differences and challenges identified by the students. Findings show that most students find learning on their own to be the major difference. They find this challenging because they feel very distant and because they do not know how to learn on their own. They have difficulties in managing their time and a lack of flexibility combined with a sloppy administration makes it even worse. Students used to being spoon-fed and learning by memorizing obviously need much support in taking ownership of their own learning in order to be able to learn by themselves. By comparing and mapping these findings to solutions suggested by existing research this study therefore suggests that support functions should be provided for students on ‘how to be an online learner’ and on ‘how to learn by yourself’. The teacher interaction and presence should also, at least in the early stages of the course, be frequent and active in order to make the student confident in his or hers ability to learn on their own. Finally, course flexibility (in regards to delivery mode and pace) should be high and much effort should be put into creating a supportive and well-organized administration

Seven major challenges for e-learning in developing countries: Case study eBIT, Sri Lanka2008In: International Journal of Education and Development using ICT, ISSN 1814-0556, Vol. 4, no 3Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

By using an extensive framework for e-learning enablers and disablers (including 37 factors) this paper sets out to identify which of these challenges are most salient for an e-learning course in Sri Lanka. The study includes 1887 informants and data has been collected from year 2004 to 2007, covering opinions of students and staff. A quantitative approach is taken to identify the most important factors followed by a qualitative analysis to explain why and how they are important. The study identified seven major challenges in the following areas: Student support, Flexibility, Teaching and Learning Activities, Access, Academic confidence, Localization and Attitudes. In this paper these challenges will be discussed and solutions suggested.

A Conceptual Framework for E-Learning in Developing Countries: A Critical Review of Research Challenges2009In: Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries, ISSN 1681-4835, E-ISSN 1681-4835, Vol. 38, no 8, p. 1-16Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents a critical review of research on challenges for e-learning with a particular focus on developing countries. A comprehensive literature review including 60 papers on e-learning challenges was undertaken for the purpose of understanding how to implement e-learning in developing countries. Research questions were: what has existing research identified as the major challenges for e-learning, and, what differences, if any, are there between developing countries and developed countries in this respect? The literature study found 278 papers which were condensed to 60 based on exclusion and inclusion criteria designed to find papers of best quality as well as papers that clearly investigated well-defined challenges. The research found 30 specific challenges which were grouped into four categories, viz.: courses, individuals, technology and context. The overall conclusion is that these challenges are equally valid for both developed and developing countries; however in developing countries more papers focus on access to technology and context whereas in developed countries more papers concern individuals. A further finding is that most papers focus on one or two categories of challenges; few papers exhibit a comprehensive view. Because challenges are interrelated, based on the findings we propose a conceptual framework of emerging issues for e-learning in developed and developing countries. The framework is useful to guide both practice and research.

Increasing interactivity in distance educations: Case studies Bangladesh and Sri Lanka2010In: Information Technology for Development, ISSN 0268-1102, E-ISSN 1554-0170, Vol. 16, no 1, p. 16-33Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper describes how distance educations in developing countries can enhance interactivityby means of information and communication technologies. It is argued that e-learning involvesa shift in the educational structure from traditional transmission of knowledge to interactivecreation of knowledge. Our case studies are two distance educations in Bangladesh and SriLanka that use different technologies for implementing interactivity; Internet and computersin one case and video and mobile phones in the other. The findings are analyzed based onStructuration Theory and we compare the two approaches based on emerging norms andbeliefs. Findings from both cases show the concurrent enactment of both the transmissionand the interactive structure. Whereas peer collaboration and the use of self-assessment toolsmake students take more ownership of their learning, we also found the idea of a classroomwith an instructive teacher to be deeply rooted in the students’ minds.

Learning from e-learning: emerging constructive learning practices2009In: Doing IT research that matters, 2009Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This research is situated within the field of Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D) and asks if ICT use can make learning practices change. While constructive learning practices are critical to both individual and societal development, repetitive learning practices are the norm in many developing countries. The study is based on observations and in-depth interviews and uses a structurational approach to understand if and how students views of learning change during an e-learning program in Sri Lanka. We found four constructive learning practices that emerged through technology use; individual exploring, interaction with peers, interaction with teachers, and taking responsibility of the learning. Many constructive learning practices emerged outside the LMS used, in students’ voluntary uses of publicly available resources on the Internet. The study shows that technology use can play a positive role for development, provided an open environment is available; students learn constructive practicesfrom e-learning.

This article focuses on class blogs and presents results from 1:1schools in Sweden. While Swedish schools are increasingly usingWeb 2.0 technologies (e.g., wikis and blogs), most of this use is stillatanexperimentalstage.Tofurthertheunderstandingofhowblogsare and can be used, we compare class blogs used in practice withthe fast-growing literature in the field. Previous work suggests eightuses: collaboration, making assignments, journal writing, instruc-tion, posting supplemental material, community building, externalreaders, and prompting. In practice, we found blogs to be used ina fairly narrow way—mainly for instruction and posting supple-mental material. We hope that this article will inspire teachers tofurther their blog use.

    Abstract [en]

Currently there exists a multitude of views of service creating problems for designers and users of models with respect to reasoning, description and classification of services. The diversity of conflicting views and definitions suggest that a multi-perspective approach is required to explicate the notion of service. The purpose of this paper is to introduce an integrated view of the service notion based on a literature survey. Our approach is to start with an analysis of service-as-a-resource and argue that this view will benefit from being complemented with a service-as-a-process view. These views are then integrated and represented in a conceptual model.

Towards a formal definition of goal-oriented business process patterns2005In: Business Process Management Journal, ISSN 1463-7154, E-ISSN 1758-4116, Vol. 11, no 6, p. 650-662Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose – Organizations of today are becoming ever more focused on their business processes. This has resulted in an increasing interest in using best practices for business process re-engineering. Two problems arise in connection to using best practices: how to find a best practice that suits particular purposes, and how to ensure that the process from the best practice has the same nature as the process under re-engineering. The purpose of this paper is to address these issues.

Design/methodology/approach – The paper suggests using business process patterns, i.e. relatively high level business process models, for making near formal comparison of business processes. The paper analyzes widespread modeling techniques to find out which of them suits the task of building patterns for comparison. Based on this analysis, the state-flow modeling technique is chosen and first steps towards formal definition of business process patterns based on this technique are suggested.

Findings – A pattern is defined based on the notions of state space, goal, as a surface in the state space, and valid movements towards the goal. A thinkable procedure of constructing patterns is demonstrated on two real-life examples. A hypothetical procedure for comparing process is suggested but it still needs to be verified in practice.

Originality/value – The originality of the paper is the way the patterns are formulated and the underlying model, the state-flow view of processes, upon which the patterns are founded.

    Abstract [en]

The analysis of value, value ascription mechanisms, and their motivating and influencing factors is useful for decision making processes of both customers and providers. In particular, enterprise modeling can greatly benefit from a proper understanding of value-related notions. Nonetheless, existing value models mainly focus on the value exchange between subjects, disregarding the understanding of “what” value is and of “why” something is valuable. In order to exploit the benefits of value analysis, a precise and rigorous conceptualization, based on foundational ontologies, is needed. To this aim, we present and discuss here a preliminary core ontology of value ascription and we discuss the main issues.

Aligning Goals and Services through Goal and Business Modelling2009In: Information Systems and E-Business Management, Vol. 7, no 2009Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

E-services are used as the cornerstones for modelling interaction points of cooperating IT systems, within and between enterprises. So far, research and development of e-services have mainly focused on an operational perspective, such as the development of standards for message exchanges and service coordination. However, on a strategic level, the success of e-services depends on its ability to work as a medium for exchange of business values. In this paper, we present an approach that utilizes goal and business models as the foundation for designing e-services. The approach can be used to ensure that the developed e-services support the desired goals and business values of involved actors. A case st3dy from the Swedish health sector is used to ground and apply the presented approach.

    Abstract [en]

Technological advancements in mobile computing and wireless networks open up to new applications and new user-groups in the mobile workforce. However, a considerable part of the mobile workforce, such as e.g. drivers or healthcare staff, is chiefly performing other tasks than interacting with their computers. As a result, they are not able to pay attention to computer interaction, making them mainly off computer tasks. The aim of the paper is to develop a design theory to manage off-task situations in mobile computing. Interviews were performed with developers of an information system comprising mobile devices for drivers. From the interviews, a design of an artifact and a design theory based on a strategy to automate routine administration task using place awareness is presented. The eight components of IS design theory by Gregor and Jones is applied as a theoretical framework.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Research at universities is today often conducted as projects. This is especially true in the engineering, natural science, medicine, and social science disciplines. Research projects are typically carried out by different categories of employers, such as professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and PhD students. These projects are typically managed by the person that applied for the project money, or the person that is the most experienced researcher at the department, which is often a professor or associate professor. From such leading persons, miracles are expected. Except acting as project managers, they are also engaged in many other parallel activities, e.g., supervision of PhD students, undergraduate and graduate education, conference organization and administration, project application writing, and representing the department internally as well as externally.

In this report, a survey of project management competence within research projects at Karlstad University is presented. Empirical data have been gathered through two questionnaires and six complementary interviews. Professors and associate professors as well as PhD students have participated in the study. The survey shows that the active project managers have learned to lead projects based on experience and very few project managers have a formal leadership education. This implies that long stablished project management methods and tools are seldom used.

Based on the outcome from the survey and our own observations, four concrete activities to improve project management skills are proposed in the report. The first activity is to provide a suitable and well-balanced course in project management methods that is offered to both active and future project managers. The second activity is to establish experience networks among active project mangers at Karlstad University. The third activity is to create a mentor program for new project managers. The fourth activity is to establish a group of experienced project managers that can assist in and give support to ongoing and planned projects.

Webfarming: En studie av möjligheter och problem2001Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Utmaningar:

    1. Arbete för öppenhet och transparens mot medborgare
    2. Skapa mångfald i utvecklingsprojekt

Effektivisering av mjukvaruinstallationer: Genom automatiserad mjukvarudistribution2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Software deployment can be seen as the process where all activities are included to make a software available to users without a manual installation on the user’s computer or other machine. There are several software deployment tools that manage automated installations available to enterprises on the market today.

The department HVDC at ABB in Ludvika has needs of starting to use a tool for automated installations of software which currently is installed manually and is time consuming. As Microsoft partners ABB wants to see how Microsoft’s tool for software deployment could help for this need.

Our study aimed to investigate how the department´s work with installations of software looks like today and to find opportunities for improvement for installations that can’t be automated at this time. The study also includes to develop a general framework for how businesses can proceed when they want to start using a software deployment tool. The framework also includes a designed requirement specification that will be evaluated against Microsoft´s tool.

To create an idea of how the work in the business looks like today, we have performed surveys and interviews with staff in HVDC. In order to develop a framework, we have used the data collected from the interviews, questionnaires and group interviews conducted to identify requirements and wishes from the staff of a software deployment tool. Literature studies were also conducted to create a theoretical framework to use when developing the framework and the requirement specification.

Our studies have resulted in a description of software deployment, opportunities for improvement in the work of software installations and a general framework that describes how businesses can proceed when they are about to start using a software deployment tool. The framework also provides a set of requirements that have used to evaluate Microsoft's tool for software distribution. In our study we have not seen that anyone before have developed a general framework and requirements specification that businesses can use as a basis when to start using a software deployment tool. Our results of the study can cover up this knowledge gap.

Business Intelligence: The impact on decision support and decision making processes2008Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 points / 15 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Historically, decision support systems have been used in organizations to facilitate better decisions. Business Intelligence has become important in recent years because the business environment is more complex and changes faster than ever before. Organizations have started to realize the value of existing information in operational, managerial, and strategic decision making. By using analytical methods and data warehousing, decision support can now be used in a flexible way and assist decision makers in decision making processes. Increasing investments in Business Intelligence indicate that it can bring value to organizations. Benefits such as the ability to access relevant and timely decision support when it is needed can be of tremendous value when the use of existing information has become more a question of survival or bankruptcy for an organization, than profit or loss. Thus, it would be interesting to see how decision support and decision making have changed in organizations after implementing a Business Intelligence system. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate if and how Business Intelligence has changed decision support and decision making processes.A deductive approach using a qualitative method has been used with semi-structured elite interviews. The thesis aims to investigate the manufacturing industry located in the Jönköping region in Sweden. The interviewed organizations are Husqvarna AB, Fläkt Woods AB, Myresjöhus AB, and Kinnarps AB. Our analysis shows positive effects of Business Intelligence in organizations with improvements of decision support due to timeliness, accessibility, quality, and better control of organizational information. As improvements in decision support has occurred, decision making has become better. Complicated problems are now easier to interpret by decision makers. Our research also concludes that intuition still has a major impact in decision making processes.

    Abstract [sv]

Evaluation of a diagnostic tool for use during system development and operations2007Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 20 points / 30 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Rodon is a diagnostic tool developed by Sörman. SAAB’s interest in Rodon regards the possibility to use the tool for development and operations of aircraft systems. The main goal of this thesis was to evaluate the capacity of Rodon and determine how SAAB can use the diagnostic tool during development and operations.

The tool uses model based diagnosis with artificial intelligence for fault isolation which is a powerful approach. If Rodon is introduced at SAAB, then detailed models of systems will be necessary to create, including the nominal behavior of the system and different faulty behaviors. In order to achieve high quality fault isolation, it is necessary to have complete and consistent models. To be able to use all applications that Rodon feature for a modeled system, preferable characteristics are that the model should be static, have discrete control signals, and have well defined system behavioral modes.

During development of a system Rodon can be used to improve and easy the work for failure analysis, guidance of sensor placements, evaluation of tests, generation of decision structures, and fault isolation. Since design of tests during development is a desirable application that Rodon does not have, two different methods are presented that utilizes Rodon to generate all possible limit checking tests.

In conclusion, Rodon can be very useful in several different aspects if introduced, but benefits gained by using Rodon will have to be compared to the labor cost of creating good models.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

To measure the effect of quality improvement interventions, it is appropriate to use analysis methods that measure data over time. Examples of such methods include statistical process control analysis and interrupted time series with segmented regression analysis. This article compares the use of statistical process control analysis and interrupted time series with segmented regression analysis for evaluating the longitudinal effects of quality improvement interventions, using an example study on an evaluation of a computerized decision support system.

You´ve got m@il: en studie om sambandet mellan e-post och effektiv kommunikation i en IT-intensiv organisation2004Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
    Abstract [en]

The use of electronic communication devices is ever increasing and now many organizations are dependent on information technology, which is now an indispensable part of organizations infrastructures. The point of this study is to develop new knowledge about how individuals perceive efficient communication in an organization that is dependent on information-technology. This study also examines aspects that contribute to, or counteract, the experienced efficiency in the use of e-mail in organizations with a high dependence on Information-technology and how e-mail is combined with other communication tools to obtain desirable efficiency.

The empirical foundation to this study is derived from an organisation’s study where ten qualitative interviews took place. This study has a hermeneutic alignment because it is based on an interviewee’s interpretation, perceptions and opinions. This study scrutinises empirical data and interviews that have led to results that are inductive in stance. During the interviews, our main concerns have been to assimilate as much information as possible concerning the organisation and their way of working with electronic communication tools with the intentions of eventually unveiling the most relevant facts.

The result of this study establishes that e-mail is an essential tool for the work place and that it is a condition for efficient communication in an organization with a high reliance on information-technology. E-mail can be seen as a tool in a large toolbox in which the different tools complement each other. It is the co-workers themselves who choose which tool is most suitable for different situations. The result shows, too, that the quantity of information and tasks is constantly rising with the use of electronic communication. This, in turn, leads to a heavier workload and subsequently greater stress for the co-workers.

Processorienterad verksamhetsutveckling med Gamification som möjliggörare: En fallstudie vid Karlstads kommun2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

The company has already an information system that handles the reports from these overhauls but it needs a supplementary tool that assist the chief planner to plan forthcoming overhauls.

It should be able to display coming overhauls in a timetable and eventually print them, either to a PDF file or to a document. The timetables this function produces will help the chief planner and the assemblers to get a good overview of their day-to-day work.

The tool needs to be intelligent in that way that it takes into consideration were in the country different assignments will be performed. So that time consuming travels over great distances can be avoided. This coordination will lead to higher profitability for the company and more satisfied customers.

The paper contains theoretic background about what models and methods that are used in the development of an information system. This theoretic background is then used when developing a system in practise and the result of this is then showed. In the end the results are compared to the demands, goals and requirements stated in the beginning of the paper, to see if they are fulfilled.

Business Modelling - Konsortium förenar forskning vid tre högskolor1996Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Projektet slutdokumenterades i boken: "Perspectives on Business Modelling - Understanding and Changing Organisations" (Springer, 1999)

För- och Nackdelar med Molnbaserade Affärssystem2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Role-based Access Control is a standardized and well established model in terms of handling access rights. However, the accepted ANSI standard 359-2004 lacks the support of geographically delimiting role authorizations. Information systems handling geographical data together with the increasing use of mobile devices call for a need to discuss such spatial aspects within the context of Role-Based Access Control. This thesis seeks to shed light on the current state of knowledge within the subject area as well as to identify aspects of it that are in need of further development. The theoretical framework conceived by the initial literature review has made the conduction of a systematic literature review possible, and the synthesis and analysis of the data together with the theoretical framework have led to the work’s contributions of knowledge: an overview of the subject where the state-of-the art in the area is presented and a structured list of desirous needs of research and development within the area of study.

A Study of Demand-Driven Documentation in Two Open Source Projects2015In: 2015 48th Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), 2015, p. 5271-5279Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

We investigate how demand-driven documentation is used by open source projects. Our study relies on questions and answers (i.e., demand-driven documentation) posted to Stack Overflow and focuses on two projects: Apache POI and Fennec (Firefox for Android). We find that the demand-driven documentation provided by respective community is of good quality and contributions are made within an acceptable amount of time. We conclude that demand-driven documentation can be suitable as a primary information source if other resources accompany it, e.g., websites. However, the suitability is closely related to size and activity of the project's community. We also investigate whether the type of project (e.g., API, application, product, etc.) matters, and find that given the nature of a forum, projects where the intended users are developers have larger and more active communities and are thus better suited for demand-driven documentation.

Världsbäst i digitalisering?: En explorativ fallstudie om den pågående digitaliseringsprocessen av den svenska skolan2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Swedish society is constantly evolving and growing into higher levels of digitalisation. The school system plays an important part in creating a nationwide competence regarding the proper use of digital tools, by growing alongside the society as a whole. In the spring of 2017 the Swedish government issued a public document called the national strategy of digitalization, which defines certain goals for the school system to achieve. The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions (SKL) is in the process of developing a plan of action, which is to be a document used for guiding people working within the school system towards reaching the goals within the national strategy of digitalization. A few initial changes have now been made to the general curriculum and it has raised several questions, regarding the good, bad or even unmanageable consequences that such changes will lead to. This study aims to look into the ongoing discussion and define specific areas of future research. A number of key actors with different roles within and in relation to the school system have been interviewed. Among the results is a model depicting several major actors within the digitalization process and how they relate to each other. The theoretical framework TPACK is used to analyze and discuss the complexity of a general level of competence that is required of teachers working within a digitalized school system. Two areas of future research have been defined: (1) Continuous study and evaluation of the action plan; (2) Proper use and integration of digital study material.

Automated Software Testing in an Embedded Real-Time System2007Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 20 points / 30 hpStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Today, automated software testing has been implemented successfully in many systems, however there does still exist relatively unexplored areas as how automated testing can be implemented in a real-time embedded system. This problem has been the foundation for the work in this master thesis, to investigate the possibility to implement an automated software testing process for the testing of an embedded real-time system at IVU Traffic Technologies AG in Aachen, Germany.

The system that has been the test object is the on board system i.box.

This report contains the result of a literature study in order to present the foundation behind the solution to the problem of the thesis. Questions answered in the study are: when to automate, how to automate and which traps should one avoid when implementing an automated software testing process in an embedded system.

The process of automating the manual process has contained steps as constructing test cases for automated testing, analysing whether an existing tool should be used or a unique test system needs to be developed. The analysis, based on the requirements on the test system, the literature study and an investigation of available test tools, lead to the development of a new test tool. Due to limited devlopement time and characterstics of the i.box, the new tool was built based on post execution evaluation. The tool was therefore divided into two parts, a part that executed the test and a part that evaluated the result. By implementing an automated test tool it has been proved that it is possible to automate the test process at system test level in the i.box.
