    Abstract [en]

    Background: Clinical learning takes place in complex socio-cultural environments that are workplaces for the staff and learning places for the students. In the clinical context, the students learn by active participation and in interaction with the rest of the community at the workplace. Clinical learning occurs outside the university, therefore is it important for both the university and the student that the student is given opportunities to evaluate the clinical placements with an instrument that allows evaluation from many perspectives. The instrument Clinical Learning Environment and Supervision (CLES) was originally developed for evaluation of nursing students clinical learning environment. The aim of this study was to adapt and validate the CLES instrument to measure medical students perceptions of their learning environment in primary health care. Methods: In the adaptation process the face validity was tested by an expert panel of primary care physicians, who were also active clinical supervisors. The adapted CLES instrument with 25 items and six background questions was sent electronically to 1,256 medical students from one university. Answers from 394 students were eligible for inclusion. Exploratory factor analysis based on principal component methods followed by oblique rotation was used to confirm the adequate number of factors in the data. Construct validity was assessed by factor analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to confirm the dimensions of CLES instrument. Results: The construct validity showed a clearly indicated four-factor model. The cumulative variance explanation was 0.65, and the overall Cronbachs alpha was 0.95. All items loaded similarly with the dimensions in the non-adapted CLES except for one item that loaded to another dimension. The CLES instrument in its adapted form had high construct validity and high reliability and internal consistency. Conclusion: CLES, in its adapted form, appears to be a valid instrument to evaluate medical students perceptions of their clinical learning environment in primary health care.

    Abstract [en]

    Health as a concept encompasses every aspect of life, not merely our physiological functions. Even so, the global efforts on women’s health, both within the research and aid field, have a history of being reduced to reproductive health alone. The aim of this study was to look at the pre-existing health needs of women in rural India and also to investigate how increased knowledge is used as a tool for creating positive conditions for supporting health in congruence with their needs. The study was conducted using an ethnographic design and the context was an educational Institute for rural and tribal women in Indore, India. The study showed that having no access to education, information or frames of reference, individuals are unable to identify their own health needs and unlikely to question traditional practices or value systems however harmful they might be. Not until fundamental needs are met and skills such as literacy, numeracy and empowerment are implemented is health education likely to have any lasting impact on a population. Previous studies on health literacy have shown the interconnectedness of these individual skills and capacities and the health status of that same population.

    Introduktion: Partnervåld är ett fenomen som leder till allvarliga konsekvenser både påindivid- och samhällsnivå. Prevalensen för partnervåld har visat sig vara lika stor blandbåde kvinnor och män. Det finns indikationer på att våld som begås av en man gentemoten kvinna inom en heterosexuell relation uppfattas som mer allvarligt än våld som begåsav en kvinna gentemot en man. Syfte: Dels att analysera huruvida gymnasiestudentersuppfattningar om allvarlighetsgraden i partnervåld i en heterosexuell relation skiljer sigåt beroende på offrets kön, och dels att analysera huruvida det finns skillnader i hurkvinnliga och manliga gymnasiestudenter uppfattar allvarlighetsgraden i enpartnervåldssituation. Metod: En enkät utformades i två versioner bestående av enfallbeskrivning som skildrade ett partnervåldsscenario inom en heterosexuell relation.Fallbeskrivningarna var identiska bortsett från att offrets kön manipulerades. Enkätendistribuerades till totalt 201 gymnasieelever i årskurs tre. Resultat: Respondenternauppfattade det som allvarligare att bruka våld gentemot ett kvinnligt offer i jämförelsemed ett manligt offer för partnervåld. Kvinnliga respondenter var mer benägna attuppfatta situationen som allvarlig än manliga respondenter, oberoende om offret var enkvinna eller en man. Diskussion: Skillnader i uppfattningar om allvarlighetsgrad kanhärledas till de socialt konstruerade könsroller som existerar i dagens samhälle, där mänexempelvis förväntas vara mer toleranta gentemot våld. Skillnader i hurallvarlighetsgraden i partnervåld uppfattas beroende på om offret är en kvinna eller enman kan leda till allvarliga konsekvenser för offret. För att undvika denna problematikär det eftersträvansvärt att uppmärksamma detta och öka medvetenheten om attpartnervåld är lika allvarligt oberoende vilket kön den som utsätts har.

    Mitt examensarbete är skrivet i form av ett informativt reportage om ämnet social ångest. Genom att presentera tre personer som själva talar om sina erfarenheter och upplevelser av sjukdomen så får läsaren en insikt i hur vardagen ser ut för de som drabbas. Syftet med mitt reportage har varit att delvis utreda vilka de huvudsakliga problemen för en drabbad är och delvis att informera alla läsare om sjukdomens påverkan samt om vilka möjligheter som idag finns tillgängliga för att bota social ångest. En stor del av intervjupersonernas ångestproblematik visade sig handla om skolmiljön. På grund av detta så läggs extra mycket fokus i mitt arbete på att ta reda på huruvida social ångest försvårar möjligheterna till att studera på en högre nivå. En representant från Studenthälsan i Stockholm bidrar med sin expertis som psykolog för att tala om problematiken för studenter med ångestsjukdomar samt de existerande hjälpmedel eller bristen därav som går att ta del av. Dessutom får de tre personerna som själva lider av sjukdomen påpeka brister och lyfta egna tankar om möjliga ändringar som högskolan skulle kunna genomföra för att förbättra situationen.

    På området som berör potentiella botemedel mot social ångest så uttalar sig psykologen och forskaren Tomas Furmark från Uppsala universitet. Han får presentera vad som enligt honom är den mest effektiva behandlingsformen, vilka styrkor den har, när man kan få hjälp och även på vilka sätt den har brister. Dessutom slår han ett slag för nya framgångsrika former av redan existerande behandlingar och poängterar att en avgörande faktor för en lyckad behandling beror på hur engagerad den som söker vård faktiskt är.

    Min arbetsprocess kan delas in i tre steg. Steg ett består av insamlandet av information och intervjupersoner. Här utfördes en grundresarch som handlade om att hitta korrekt fakta om sjukdomen samt att få kontakt med personer som själva led av den. Steg två bestod av att gå igenom, sålla ut och tolka informationen som hittades i del ett samt att bygga ett förtroende till de intervjupersoner som ställde upp. Detta arbete var ytterst omfattande då det krävdes mycket viljestyrka från både min och mina intervjupersoners sida för att de skulle känna sig redo för att tala om sin sjukdom. Steg tre i min arbetsprocess var sedan att sammanställa intervjuerna och informationen inom en form som kunde utgöra ett intressant reportage med ett faktiskt nyhetsvärde.

    Resultatet blev ett femton A4 sidor långt reportage som huvudsakligen presenteras i tre olika delar. Reportaget drivs framåt av intervjupersonerna som själva redogör för deras olika ångestsymptom och svårigheter i olika situationerna. De tre situationerna som tas upp är i kronologisk följd, ångestproblematik inom skolan, ångestproblematik i vardagen och slutligen ångestproblematik på sociala medier. Inom två av ämnena hörs också åsikter från Eric Bergström, grundaren av företaget Ångestskolan och enligt sig själv, den enda föreläsaren som talar om social ångest i Sverige.

    Slutsatsen som mitt arbete uppnår är att det kan bidra till att skapa en debatt om ämnet, belysa en problematik som sällan tagits upp och dessutom kritisera högskolans förmåga att hantera ångestsjukdomar. Mitt arbete är inte något som har skrivits för att besvara en fråga eller utreda vad som ligger bakom social ångest. Det är skrivet med syftet att informera och intressera för att slutligen öppna upp för en diskussion om ett ämne som fortfarande är ett mysterium för många. En förutsättning för detta är att mitt arbete därför väcker en mängd frågor som inte har några enkla svar och därför bör diskuteras.

    Mitt syfte med detta arbete har varit att undersöka i vilken utsträckning speletDreamlords: The Reawakening tillfredsställer olika motivationer, samt hur det skullekunna omformas för att bättre tillfredsställa dessa.

    Det första som gjordes var att undersöka teorier som finns om ämnet, och av dessa harjag valt att använda mig av Bartles spelartyper (2003) och Yees komponenter förmotivation (2007), samt att jag även har använt mig av Yees undersökning av preferensav klasstyp (2008). Jag har valt ut de delar som är mest intressant för detta arbete, dvs.det som är applicerbart på Dreamlords: The Reawakening.

    I analysen används alla modeller var för sig för att utröna om de i sin helhet eller delar avteorierna är applicerbara på Dreamlords: The Reawakening. Analysen innebär enundersökning om vilka spelartyper, komponenter och roller som tillfredsställs, och vilka som inte gör det. Resultatet av denna undersökning är tänkt att ligga till grund för eneventuell om-design av raserna i spelet i ett försök att tillfredsställa fler spelartyper ochkomponenter.

    Om motivationer kan jag som slutsats säga att Dreamlords: The Reawakeningtillfredsställer de flesta motivationerna delvis, men det finns mycket som kan görasbättre.

    För rollerna är det dock värre. Jag fann att Dreamlords: The Reawakening i nulägeterbjuder några roller som en spelare kan anta, dock är det en som är överlägset bäst,”skada på avstånd”, eller ”kiting”. För att råda bot på detta problem föreslår jag att ökaantalet aktiva fiender, för att låta de andra rollerna komma till sin rätt. Ytterligare förslagjag ger är att ge möjlighet att specialisera sitt lag för att bättre kunna välja ochspecialisera sin roll. Även rollerna tillfredsställs alltså delvis, men det finns mycket somkan göras för att bättre tillfredsställa dem.

    The aim of the work was to investigate the possibility to combine information from PPG and bio-acoustic technology to extract information that is related to the blood pressure. The measurements have been carried out with several different configurations. First the relation between arterial sounds and the PPG-signal was studied. After those measurements with both PPG and the bio- acoustic technique was concluded on people in different positions and after riding a bike. The goal was to vary the blood pressure. The conclusion that can be drawn in this report is that the bio-acoustic and the PPG-signal in peripheral arteries have the same source. That implies that arterial sounds are a product of turbulence when the pulse wave passes by. Further it can be assumed that it is the first heart sound that is represented in the arterial sounds. The time before and after the arterial sound in one heart cycle vary whit the blood pressure. There relationship seems also to vary with the bloodpressure but it vary differently under different conditions.

    Detta examensarbete syftar till att implementera en modulgenerator som automatiskt genererar ett matchat differentialpar. Detta för att enkelt kunna generera detta vanlig förekommande byggblock utan att behöva rita om allt från grunden.

    Modulgeneratorn som konstruerats klarar att skapa upp till 2x2 transistor block matchad layout med eller utan sköld. Programmet skapar med hjälp av indata från konstruktören en skräddarsydd layout som kan användas som byggblock i integrerade kretsar.

    Examensarbetet är slutfört och har genomgått omfattande testning

    The aim of this thesis is to implement a module generator that automatically generates a matched differential pair. That is, to easily create new pairs without having to draw everything from scratch.

    The module generator is able to create matched layouts with up to 2x2 transistor blocks with or without a guard-ring. The program uses a number of input parameters from the user to customize the layout. Hence, the generated blocks can be used in a large range of analog integrated circuits.

    In today's fragmented media landscape it has become increasingly important for companies to differentiate their message from all the other competitors’ messages. Another challenge for companies is to find ways to strategically communicate their corporate values, both internally and externally, so that the values are perceived unitary by companies and their stakeholders. Furthermore, it can be said that countless media options are competing for people's attention; thus it is imperative for companies´ to find optimal channels to their target audience and keep a “red thread” throughout the diversity of channels to obtain a coherent brand perception. Hence, the purpose of this study is to gain a deeper understanding of how companies can integrate their marketing communication and how they manage the communication towards the external markets (according to the concept of IMC). Furthermore, a qualitative case study with the communication bureau Yours in Luleå was conducted to reach the purpose.The findings from this thesis show that in order for companies to be successful in their external IMC, they have to identify long-term customers which in turn will ensure wealth contribution to the companies. In summary, IMC can serve as a base to help companies make the correct strategic choices and managing business processes to a high standard, which will lead to success.

    Research key question is: How do the working conditions look like for Swedish freelance journalists living and serving abroad? The aim was to investigate how Swedish freelance journalists abroad themselves view their work and their working conditions. From wages and working hours to work and press freedom are discussed.Qualitative research interviews were conducted with four Swedish freelance journalists based abroad. One serving in the Middle East, one in India, one in France and one in Finland. It has been a gender balance of respondents. The responses of the four journalists have been processed based on a qualitative content analysis.The key that have emerged during the research is that freelance journalists enjoy to plan the working day as they wish, be able to settle wherever they want and travel a lot as the benefits of their working conditions. The disadvantages described is the insecurity regarding supplies, not getting a fair price, the loneliness that occurs without co-workers, and the risks that exist when reporting from war-torn countries without an editorial staff that stands behind it.

    Audio engineers differ in their views regarding the usage of the Center Channel or to use thecommonly known Phantom Center when creating music mixes in 5.1-surround. Some debate thatthis is because of their earlier experiences on mixing music for the stereo format, with relationsto the history of the 5.1 surround system being looked upon as a format for film only. But whatseem to be forgotten are the consumers’ preferences. A listening test is constructed to investigateif consumers have a clear preference regarding lead vocal panning. Subjects referred to asconsumers, consisting of untrained listeners, will listen to three songs mixed in 5.1 surround withthree conditions per song where the lead vocal panning is changed between each condition. Thesubjects choose their preference along with an attribute explaining why they preferred the chosencondition. A chi-squared distribution test is used for the statistical analysis. The result showedthat the subjects had no clear preference.

    The overall aim of this dissertation is to investigate how students engage with visual representations as a signifying practice in an educational context. This question is scrutinized through two young girls’ three video films and interviews with the producers. The study is guided by an interest in what these young students communicate with their films, how this is done and how they relate to the cultural and social world in their representation. The title, Ambiguous Images, alludes to the signifying work with film, images and words done by the two girls. The films raise topics such as sexuality, equality and gender which set their mark on the situation of young females, both in school and in their leisure time. The result shows that moving images fulfil the function of negotiating the significations as well as making it possible for the girls to create their own alternative representations. Each film contributes an alternative discourse, in contrast to dominant texts that apply to the constitution of the cultural and social context they address. The study demonstrates that learning is a process of selection, adaptation and transformation motivated by the interests of the pupils and the context of learning. Other important issues are also raised concerning the students’ possibilities to participate in and influence the school subject in question. This involves both the opportunity of engagement with a multiplicity of modes and the possibility to adopt their own voice and view of the world. Both the methodological and the theoretical approach in the dissertation have multimodal and social-semiotic perspectives, which are combined with a design approach. These combinations are united in a presentation of representation and communication as a social process of sign-making.

    The workplace is an important arena to improve the health of the population in Sweden. Some workplaces are using a method called health profile evaluation to evaluate the employee’s health and to motivate them to a healthy behavior. The aim of this study was to analyze employee’s view of the method and to study if it could affect their health promoting behavior. Eight people from a workplace that recently have done a health profile evaluation took part in this qualitative interview study. The result showed that it’s a method that promotes a healthy lifestyle and a method that can motivate people to a healthier behavior. There was no specific section in the health profile evaluation that affected most people, it differed among the respondents. The method affected the employees in different ways and it also affected individuals that already had a healthy lifestyle. The employees were positive about the health profile besides one thing, it was hard to estimate the borg-scale.

    In search for pathogenetic mechanisms underlying hyperkeratosis, we examined the pH gradient across the stratum corneum in normal and ichthyotic skin. Twenty students and employees, (12 men and 8 womenaged 25-69 years) served as controls. Patients with ichthyoses were recruited from the outpatient clinic (13 men aged 12-71 years). Diagnosis was made on the basis of clinical examination and serum lipid electrophoresis.

    For recording pH values, a flat glass electrode was repeatedly applied to the skin during tape stripping of volar forearm skin. Before stripping, surface pH (mean±SD) was higher in autosomal dominant ichthyosis vulgaris (IV) (5.2±0.3; n=7) than in x-linked recessive ichthyosis (XRI) (4.6±0.2; n=6) and healthy control skin (4.5±0.2; n=7). This comparision was made between men since a sex difference was observed when comparing men and women in the control group (4.5±0.2; n=7 for men and 5.3±0.5 for women).

    Removal of stratum corneum, which required 170-200 strippings in ichthyotic skin and 100-120 strippings in healthy control skin, dicsclosed markedly different pH variations in the two types of ichthyoses. The major abnormality in IV skin was that a neutral pH was attained already after half the total number of strippings through the hyperkeratotic stratum corneum, which may reflect a lack of acidickeratohyalin breakdown products in this condition.This in contrast to XRI where the pH gradient was less steep and eventually plateaued at pH 6.2-6.6 instead of at 6.7-7.0 as in normal skin. A likely explanation is the accumulation of cholesterol sulfate in lower stratum corneum which occurs in XRI.

    Our results suggest that the 'acid mantle' of normal skin, which penetrates deep into the stratum corneum, is the combined result of cornification-associated organic acids and back-diffusion of of acid material from the surface. Since comeocyte desquamation involves many pH dependent enzymes, abnormalities in the transcomeal pH gradient might play a role in the pathogenesis of ichthyoses.

    Studien hade som syfte att beskriva och analysera hur pedagoger med specialpedagogiskt uppdrag i förskolan upplever och arbetar med beteendeproblematik. Frågeställningar som skulle besvaras var hur pedagoger med specialpedagogiskt uppdrag i förskolan definierar beteendeproblematik i förskolan, vad de anser kan vara möjliga orsaker till beteendet, vilka grundförutsättningar i verksamheten som är gynnsamma i det praktiska arbetet med beteendeproblematik samt hur det arbetet går till. Studien genomfördes med en kvalitativ forskningsmetod, intervju. Data till studien insamlades genom semistrukturerade telefonintervjuer med pedagoger med specialpedagogiskt uppdrag i förskolan i norra Sverige. Studien visade att det är komplext att definiera vad beteendeproblematik i förskolan är. Vad som orsakar beteendeproblematik är även svårbedömt. Både informanterna och forskare anser att beteendeproblematik kan bero på flera olika faktorer men att det är hur den blir bemött som avgör om barnet får möjlighet att utvecklas positivt eller negativt. Det informanterna lyfte som mest betydande vid arbetet med beteendeproblematik var relationer och kunskap. Genom bärande relationer och en ökad kunskap hos pedagogerna ansåg informanterna att beteendeproblematik inte behövde uppstå i förskolan. Har pedagogerna en förståelse för barnets beteende och inte lägger ansvaret för beteendet på barnet skapas en miljö som är tillåtande och positiv som låter barnet utvecklas.

    Bakgrund: Att amma är förenat med betydande hälsovinster för både barn och mor ändå ses amningsfrekvensen sjunka i världen. För att lyckas med amning behöver familjen mycket stöd i ett tidigt skede efter hemkomsten från BB. Vid bristande stöd ses amningen avslutas tidigare än planerat. Tidigare studier har visat att många mödrar upplever bristande stöd relaterat till skiftande kunskaper hos BHV-sjuksköterskorna. Syfte: Syftet var att beskriva BHV-sjuksköterskors erfarenhet av att ge stöd till nyblivna mödrar gällande amning vid första hembesöket från barnhälsovården. Metod: En kvalitativ studie genomfördes med 16 semistrukturerade intervjuer. Både distriktsjuksköterskor och barnsjuksköterskor som arbetar i barnhälsovården deltog. Utifrån en kvalitativ innehållsanalys analyserades intervjuerna. Resultat: I resultatet framträdde ett övergripande tema: Att ett holistiskt förhållningssätt i mötet med mödrarna ger möjlighet att utforma ett individuellt stöd. Kategorierna som framträdde var skapa relationer, underlätta vid svårigheter samt förmedla trygghet utifrån kompetens. Slutsats: Resultatet i denna studie visar att för att BHV-sjuksköterskorna ska kunna känna sig trygga i sitt amningsstöd framkom tre viktiga aspekter: det första hembesöket, samarbetet mellan de olika instanserna som familjerna möter i samband med att bli föräldrar och tid för BHV-sjuksköterskor att utbyta erfarenheter med varandra. Studien visar också att attityder gällande amning i samhället påverkar BHV-sjuksköterskornas erfarenheter av att ge stöd vid amning.

    Uppsatsens syfte är att ta reda på hur representationen av funktionshindrade ser ut i SVT:s barn- och ungdomsprogram; Lilla sportspegeln, Lilla aktuellt och Miljöhjältarna. Frågeställningarna uppsatsen besvarar är:

    • Hur ofta förekommer funktionshinder i SVT:s barnprogram, Lilla Aktuellt, Lilla Sportspegeln och Miljöhjältarna?

    • Om funktionshinder förekommer, i vilken kontext förekommer de? • Finns det vissa funktionshinder som förekommer oftare än andra i programmen vi

    undersökt? • Om funktionshinder förekommer, hur ser fördelningen ut programmen emellan?

    Programmen vi undersökt är aktuella och riktar sig mot målgruppen barn och ungdomar mellan 8-12 år. Dessutom har de en liknande sändningstid samt programlängd. Gemensamt för programmen är också att de bygger på nutidsorienterade ämnen. Vi har undersökt 20 stycken av varje program. Det motsvarar 300 minuter av Lilla Aktuellt, 560 minuter av Lilla Sportspegeln och ca 600 minuter av Miljöhjältarna. Vi tillämpade metoden kvantitativ innehållsanalys i studien av programmen. Vidare analyseras resultaten av undersökningen med kvalitativa metodverktyg.

    Vi kom fram till ett resultat som pekar i samma riktning som tidigare forskning. Det betyder att funktionshindrade sällan förekommer i media. Av de 60 program som studerades förekom det bara personer med funktionshinder i 5 stycken. Dock såg vi inget mönster av någon särskild kontext som förekommandet av funktionshinder påträffades i. Rörelsehinder visade sig vara det mest frekvent förekommande funktionshindret. Lilla sportspegeln var det program där funktionshindrade fick störst utrymme.

    För att analysera resultaten av studien använder vi teorier av bl a Gunilla Hulténs som skrivit om journalistik och mångfald samt McQuail och Habermas teorier om det offentliga rummet. Vidare tillämpar vi teorier av Cecilia Von Feilitzen och Ulla Carlssons som gjort forskning på mediers påverkan på barn. Där efter redogör vi för utvecklingspsykologiska teorier för att analysera vilka konsekvenser medieinnehållet får för sina yngsta mottagare.

    In the ATLAS experiment software plays a central role in data taking, reconstruction, and analysis. This thesis presents a set of analysis algorithms written for the ATLAS software framework Athena, towards H+ searches in the τ+jets channel. Data recorded by the ATLAS experiment for 900 GeV proton-proton collisions from 2009 and 7 TeV proton-proton collisions from 2010 are analyzed with these algorithms and compared to Monte Carlo. A search for top quarks is performed on 36 pb-1 of data, and the results are found to agree well with Monte Carlo.

    Results from searches for charged Higgs bosons in ATLAS and CMS are presented. The searches cover singly charged Higgs boson decays in the $H^+ \rightarrow \tau\nu$, $H^+ \rightarrow t\bar{b}$, $H^+ \rightarrow c\bar{s}$, and $H^+ \rightarrow W^+Z$ modes, and doubly charged Higgs boson decays in the $\Phi^{++}\Phi^{--} \rightarrow 4l$ and $\Phi^{++}\Phi^{-} \rightarrow 3l$ modes, with \SI{7}{TeV} and \SI{8}{TeV} data from the Run 1 of the LHC. The first search for charged Higgs bosons with \SI{13}{TeV} data in the $H^{+} \rightarrow \tau\nu$ decay mode with ATLAS is also presented. The results are interpreted in various theoretical models.

    With increasing cost for power generation opportunities for small scale power generation from waste heat have increased. The awareness of untapped resources such as local waste heat streams as well as the available range of technology and products to harvest such streams is increasing steadily though field data is scarce for applications below 100 °C entry temperature. ORC applications have a large number of open parameters and therefore require field data for correlation of models.This paper presents field data and analysis of an ORC power generation plant operating with NH 3. The unit operates on waste heat from a Swedish pulp mill at an available temperature of 75 to 85 °C. Performance at varying heat source conditions and capacity is reported as well as an analysis of the particular investment case.The data was generated during a 15 day period and show a thermal efficiency of 8-9% at capacities from 50 to 100%. The results indicate a flat thermal efficiency from 20 to 100% capacity.Investment case analysis is based on a purchase model while the chosen economic model is a supplier own-and-operate arrangement supplying the mill with power at a predefined cost during an extended period of time.

    Low temperature difference power systems and implications of multi-phase screw expanders in Organic Rankine Cycles2016Doctoral thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

    New and old data on screw expanders operating with 2-phase mixtures in the admission line has been combined to enable the first public correlation of adiabatic expansion efficiency as a function of entry vapour fraction. Although not yet perfected, these findings have enabled an entirely new approach to the design and optimisation of Organic Rankine Cycles, ORCs. By allowing a continuous variation of vapour fraction at expander entry optima for thermal efficiency, second law efficiency and cost efficiency can be found. Consequently one can also find maxima for power output in the same dimension.

    This research describes a means of adapting cycle characteristics to various heat sources by varying expander inlet conditions from pure liquid expansion, through mixed fluid and saturated gas expansion, to superheated gas. Thermodynamic analysis and comparison of the above optimisations were a challenge. As most terms of merit for power cycles have been developed for high temperature applications they are often simplified by assuming infinite heat sinks. In many cases they also require specific assumptions on e.g. pinch temperatures, saturation conditions, critical temperatures etc, making accurate systematic comparison between cycles difficult. As low temperature power cycles are more sensitive to the ‘finiteness’ of source and sink than those operating with high temperatures, a substantial need arises for an investigation on which term of merit to use.

    Along with an investigation on terms of merit, the definition of high level reversible reference also needed revision. Second law efficiency, in the form of exergy efficiency, turned out to be impractical and of little use. A numerical approach, based on a combination of first and second law, was developed. A theory and method for the above is described. Eventually low temperature power cycle test data was compiled systematically. Despite differences in fluid, cycle, temperature levels and power levels the data correlated well enough to allow for a generalised, rough correlation on which thermal efficiency to expect as a function of utilization of source and sink availability. The correlation on thermal efficiency was used to create a graphical method to pre-estimate key economic factors for low temperature site potential in a very simple manner. A major consequence from the findings of this thesis is the reduced dependency on unique choices of process fluid to match heat source characteristics. This development significantly simplifies industrial standardisation, and thereby potentially improves cost efficiency of commercial ORC power generators.

    This thesis describes a measurement of the Standard Model Higgs boson coupling to fermions in decays to two τ-leptons, a search for charged Higgs bosons in decays to a τ-lepton and a neutrino, as well as the reconstruction, identification and triggering of hadronically decaying τ-leptons. The data considered are collected by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider.

    The reconstruction and identification of hadronically decaying τ-leptons in the ATLAS experiment during Run 2 of the Large Hadron Collider are described, and the performance of the τ trigger is measured in events with top–antitop-quark pairs using data from 13 TeV proton–proton collisions, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3.2 fb-1, collected in 2015, and 11.5 fb-1, collected in 2016.

    Hadronically decaying τ-leptons are of importance to many physical processes involving Higgs bosons. The coupling of the Standard Model Higgs boson to fermions is measured in decays to two τ-leptons using 7 TeV data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb-1, collected in 2011, and 8 TeV data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb-1, collected in 2012. The signal strength is measured to be μ = 1.4, corresponding to an excess over the background-only model of 4.5σ.

    Charged Higgs bosons are searched for in decays to a τ-lepton and a neutrino, where the τ-lepton decays hadronically. 13 TeV data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 14.7 fb-1, collected in 2015 and 2016, are used. No excess over the Standard Model background is observed, and the 95 % confidence-level exclusion limits on σ(pp → [b]tH+) × (H+ → τν) are set to 2.0 pb–8 fb in the range 200–2000 GeV.

    Running a refrigeration cycle at saturated liquid conditions at the evaporator inlet has a few interesting advantages in comparison to the conventional 2-phase situation. Opportunities in using novelty heat exchangers, increased cycle efficiency and significantly reduced main compressor sizes occur. Using the two rotor integrated

    compressor/expander idea developed by Olofsson (1993) in a refrigeration cycle theoretically offer the possibility of pure liquid evaporator inlet conditions, the device is called Phase Separator. This paper reports results from hardware tests as well as some theoretical results. To evaluate the efficiency of a Phase Separator three terms of efficiency are suggested. The test results prove that pure liquid conditions to the evaporator are obtainable with a practical Phase Separator.

    Low Temperature Power Cycles have become increasingly interesting means of increasing energy efficiency of processes as well as for base load power generation from solar, and geothermal, heat. Theoretical understanding of the various processes, components and limitations is constantly increasing through extensive research. Practical utilisation of this knowledge is also increasing steadily though properly published field data is scarce. In this article a number of different solutions for power generation from low temperature heat sources have been gathered and analysed. Some of the studied units have not previously been described. A method for general evaluation of LTPC's is proposed and the outcome of the analysis is discussed as well as how to use it for practical purposes. By separating thermodynamic potential from irreversibilities the analysis indicates that the irreversibilities show limited dependency on temperature, size, thermodynamic cycle or working fluid. Instead performance of the studied units follows a relatively simple correlation with utilisation of the thermal potential. This correlation is defined and discussed. One conclusion is that the correlation allows for a possibility to express the maximum expected real power generation with knowledge of the characteristics of the heat source and heat sink only.

    Low temperature power cycles can benefit from the use of multi-phase flow expansion devices from a thermodynamic cycle efficiency point of view. Particularly power cycles such as ORC, Kalina and Trilateral Flash Cycles can be improved by multi-phase expansion. This article presents the experimental findings in a series of laboratory tests on a semihermetic Lysholm Turbine operating with R134a with superheated, saturated and wet inlet gas conditions. The test arrangements are described as well as discussion on the relevance of such test data. Finally comparison is made with findings from other investigations and recommendations for further studies are made. A correlation between peak efficiency and sensitivity to inlet vapour fraction was discovered which allows for estimations of adiabatic efficiencies with 2-phase inlet conditions even when only test data, or simulations, from single phase inlet conditions exist. The conclusions made are that Lysholm Turbines are well suited for low temperature power generation and that further understanding of the performance during 2-phase conditions is required.

    A review of the thermodynamic performance of ORCs from public, as well as non-public sources hasrevealed a correlation suitable to be used as a rule of thumb for  high-level performance estimation ofORC power generators. Using the correlation, the limited amount of available test data can begeneralised leading to a high level evaluation of the commercial benefits of any potential applicationfor ORCs.Power generators using ORC-technology exist in relatively low numbers. Furthermore, fieldinstallations seldom imply comparable boundary conditions. As ORCs generally  operate at lowtemperature differences between source and sink it has been shown that their relative sensitivity tovariations in temperatures i.e. the finiteness of source- and sink, is larger than the sensitivity of powergenerators operating with large temperature differences. Therefore the establishing of practical rule ofthumb performance estimation, similar to the figure of merit, Coefficient of Performance, COP, asused in refrigeration and air conditioning industry, has previously not been successful.In order to arrange field data in a manner suitable for comparison a refinement of suitable figures ofmerit was required. The suggested, refined terms are presented and explained as well as criticallyevaluated against the most common  efficiency terms traditionally used.The current lack of a performance rule of thumb leaves room for less serious vendors and laymen tomake performance claims unrealistic to practical achievements. Scrutinizing such questionablestatements requires detail process simulations and a multitude of technical assumptions. Henceargumentation becomes ineffective. If a suitable rule of thumb can be established argumentationagainst dubious claims would become significantly more forceful.This paper suggests a new term to be used as rule of thumb and explains a  method on how to use it.

    Performance of Organic Rankine Cycles is sensitive not only to the entry  temperature ratio betweenheat source and heat sink but also to the temperature  degradation of the heat source flow, caused bythe heat transfer to the process in pre-heater, evaporator and super heater. In order to adopt the cycleto the great variety of heat sources a multitude of fluids are required. Alternatively fluid mixtures,trans-critical or supercritical fluid conditions can be used to match the process temperatures with theheat source. Screw expanders offer an alternative, new approach to the matching problem of ORC’s asthey allow for flexible multi-phase expansion. Hereby the vapour fraction at the expander entry can beused to  partially match the temperatures of the process to a particular heat source. To provide aperspective on the use of such screw expanders in ORC-systems previous experimental andcommercial experience have been reviewed and discussed.Screw expanders are versatile machines used for the production of mechanical work in power rangesfrom 3kW to 1.5MW. As the functional characteristics differ significantly  from dynamic expandersthe explanatory models used to generalise results are different. Plenty of research has resulted in wellgeneralized explanatory models for dynamic expander analysis. For screw expanders similarexplanatory models exist mainly in commercially confidential environments. A few public sourcesdisclose test data. In the few cases data has been investigated the analyses tend to rely onthermodynamic models suitable for dry gas expansion. Typically that leads to reasonable replicationof test results but seldom to models suitable for detailed understanding of the process. In applicationswith 2-phase expansion the theories used to simulate functional characteristics is entirely insufficient.The main reason for  the scarcity of work in this field is probably the empirical difficulties in obtaininggood measuring data in multi-phase conditions.This paper describes a review of multi-phase screw expander experiences and explains why a uniquetheory is required to model its characteristics. In the absence of such a unique theory a correlationbased in empirical data is presented. This allow for estimations of screw expander efficiency in multi-phase conditions. Measured efficiency with dry expansion, or such efficiency simulated, can be usedto estimate adiabatic efficiency with expansion entry vapor fractions ranging from 0 to 1 by using thiscorrelation. Hence estimating expansion efficiency during multi-phase expansion is simplified,allowing for better optimisation of the ORC-systems. This way a new perspective of screw expanderpotential in ORC system integration can be presented.

    A new method, using a combination of traditional first law and second law analysis, is developed to facilitate characterization and comparison of power cycles using low temperature heat sources. In trying to determine the best thermodynamic cycle and working media for a given application one must take the strongly non-linear effects of matching the pinch points of a particular cycle with a particular working media into account. The new method allows unbiased comparison of arbitrarily chosen power cycles, working fluids and component characteristics. The method also allows for operating conditions with finite capacity heat source and heat sink. The usefulness of the method is illustrated by the analysis of the effects of local temperature difference distribution for three different fully reversible power cycles using three different working media.

    The driver for developing this method is to simplify comparison and communication among users and industrial professionals and thus enable a better understanding of characteristics and design criteria for low temperature heat driven power cycles.

    With the advent of commercial as well as institutional and national clouds, new opportunities for on-demand computing resources for the HEP community become available. The new cloud technologies also come with new challenges, and one such is the contextualization of computing resources with regard to requirements of the user and his experiment. In particular on Google's new cloud platform Google Compute Engine (GCE) upload of user's virtual machine images is not possible. This precludes application of ready to use technologies like CernVM and forces users to build and contextualize their own VM images from scratch. We investigate the use of Puppet to facilitate contextualization of cloud resources on GCE, with particular regard to ease of configuration and dynamic resource scaling.

    The task of reducing global carbon dioxide emissions leads to a need to reduce the average CO2-emission in power generation. A more energy efficient mix of power generation on national, or regional level, will require the re-use of waste heat and use of primary, low temperature heat for power generation purposes. Low Temperature Power Cycles, such as Organic Rankine Cycles, Trilateral Flash Cycles, Kalina Cycles offer a large degree of freedom in finding technical solutions for such power generation.

    Theoretical understanding of LTPC’s advance rapidly though practical achievements in the field show very humble improvements at a first glance. Cost of applying the new knowledge in real applications seems to be an important reason for the discrepancy. One central reason for the high cost level is the diversity of process fluids required and consequently the lack of standardization and industrialization of equipment. Uses of supercritical power cycle technology tend to cause the same dilemma. Furthermore upcoming regulations prohibiting the use of several process fluids tend to lead to remedies increasing plant cost.

    By using 2-phase, variable vapour fraction, expansion inlet conditions the need to use many different process fluids is reduced, allowing simpler and more cost efficient LTPC’s by easier matching with heat source temperature characteristics. This article explores some of the associated effects on cycle output and cost efficiency. A waste heat recovery application is investigated simulating cost efficiency, thermodynamic efficiencies and power generation while using fundamentally different working fluids, lumped component efficiencies, variable utilization of the waste heat and optimisation on expansion inlet vapour fraction.

    The conclusion made is that the sensitivity to choice of working fluid is lower than intuitively anticipated, in contrast to common consensus in science. Furthermore it is shown that exceptional component efficiencies are not required in order to achieve a performance comparable to current practise and that a good business case is possible under the assumed economic conditions.

    Background: Small capacity, low temperature, geothermal heat sources providesignificant opportunities for distributed, small scale power generation. Projectdefinitions and pre-dimensioning however require advanced thermodynamicengineering at a cost independent of project size. In order to reduce this cost, anew method has been developed to allow basic level engineers to performpre-optimisation of thermodynamic potential as well as expected performance usingavailable power plant technology at such pre-optimized conditions.Results: By reducing the complexity of second-law computations, a simpletwo-dimensional diagram is shown representing the dimensioning criteria requiredfor maximum power generation using the particular heat source and sink whileconsidering expected power plant performance, using systems and componentson the market.Methods: By sensitivity analysis the combination of thermodynamic analysis and realworld data correlations was simplified and arranged for pre-dimensioning ofbusiness cases.Conclusions: Optimal pre-dimensioning of power generation system for anygeothermal heat source, with a defined heat sink, can be determined withoutadvanced thermodynamic expertise. This reduces the cost for business case proposals,pre-dimensioning and tender specifications of small-scale power generation systemsfor low temperature heat sources. The intended implication of this work is to increasethe use of low-temperature geothermal wells for distributed power generation.

    Syftet med den här kvalitativa studien är att öka förståelsen för hur elever i grundskolans årskurs 1 – 3 använder och utvecklar sitt språk under ett tematiskt arbete i naturvetenskap. Genom deltagande observation i en åldersintegrerad klass med årskurserna 1 – 3 besvarades studiens forskningsfråga. I undervisningens olika situationer användes filmkamera, ljudinspelning och fältanteckningar som metod, vilket gav ett rikt datamaterial att analysera. Vid analysen av datamaterialet användes den fenomenografiska forskningsansatsen, i vilken fem kvalitativt skilda kategorier i elevernas sätt att samtala om ämnesinnehållet framträdde. För att ta reda på vilka faktorer som påverkade elevernas sätt att samtala användes även det sociokulturella perspektivet. Resultatet visar att eleverna i studien förändrar sitt naturvetenskapliga språk över tid. Förändringen i språket påverkades av olika faktorer så som användandet av material, artefakter och situationerna eleverna befann sig i samt att eleverna i hög grad approprierade lärarens språkbruk i undervisningen.

    Syftet med denna kvalitativa studie är att undersöka hur socialsekreterare inom första linjen ser på sitt handlingsutrymme i insatsen personligt stöd. För att titta närmare på detta har sex semistrukturerade intervjuer hållits med socialsekreterare inom första linjen. En förutsättning för samtliga informanter har varit att de ska ha erfarenhet av att bevilja sig själva som personligt stöd. Intervjuerna har därefter transkriberats och kodats för att slutligen utmynna i tre övergripande teman som tillsammans besvarar studiens syfte. Det insamlade datamaterialet analyseras och diskuteras med stöd i tidigare forskning. Resultatet visar att socialsekreterarna upplever ett stort handlingsutrymme i insatsen personligt stöd gällande vad insatsen kan innehålla. Handlingsutrymmet upplevs som nödvändigt för att kunna tillgodose och skräddarsy insatser efter individers enskilda behov. Handlingsutrymmet anses också nödvändigt på grund av att socialsekreterarna är olika individer. Vilket innebär att utrymmet begränsas av enskilda socialsekreterare och deras kompetens på olika områden. Resultatet visar på önskemål om tydligare riktlinjer främst gällande i vilka typer av ärenden som personligt stöd kan beviljas. Empirin visar att bristen på riktlinjer leder till att socialsekreterarna kan uppleva osäkerhet kring insatsen och deras befogenheter samt bidra till slitningar i arbetsgruppen. Tydligare riktlinjer skulle kunna bidra till att socialsekreterarna som kollegor får en större samsyn kring insatsen personligt stöd.

    Ett uppmärksammat mord i Skönsberg (Sundsvall) på alla hjärtans dag 2004 blir föremål för en omfattande polisutredning. Förundersökningen är en diger lunta. Tingsrätten och Hovrätten fastställer olika domar. Tingsrätten anser det ställt utom all rimlig tvivel att den tilltalade är skyldig, den senare instansen friar dock personen från ansvar med motiveringen att utredningen inte är tillräcklig för att klargöra de väsentliga delarna av händelseförloppet. Vi kommer i vår rapport att studera hur man kan komma fram till så olika slutsatser när man har samma omfattande utredning med bevisning som grund. När utredningsstandarden i brottmål är uppfylld övergår rätten till bevisprövning. Hur skall man värdera den bevisning som finns? Vi förklarar på ett grundläggande sätt hur detta går till. Syftet är dock främst att belysa den problematik som det innebär när man i rätten har möjlighet till ett godtyckligt val av värderingsmetod, som i förlängningen kan innebära olika utfall i domen. Begränsningen ligger i att vi fokuserar och analyserar på rättsfallet och förundersökningen gällande "Skönsbergsmordet". Utöver detta sker en jämförelse med två andra liknande rättsfall, litterära källor angående bevisprövning och värdering kommer att studeras och vi skall även diskutera med Polis och jurister. Rapporten avslutas med en diskussion och de slutsatser vi kommit fram till vad det gäller rättssäkerheten kring det godtyckliga valet av metod för bevisvärdering.

    Purpose: To study the pharmacokinetics of topiramate (TPM) during delivery, lactation, and in the neonate. Methods: TPM concentrations in plasma and breast milk were measured with fluorescence polarization immunoassay (FPIA) in five women with epilepsy treated with TPM during pregnancy and lactation. Blood samples were obtained at delivery from mothers, from the umbilical cord, and from the newborns on three occasions (24, 48, and 72 h) after delivery. Blood and breast milk also were collected from mothers 2 weeks, and 1 and 3 months postpartum. Blood samples also were drawn from the infants during breast-feeding. Three of the mother-infant pairs were studied both at delivery and during lactation, two contributed with data from delivery only. Results: The umbilical cord plasma/maternal plasma ratios were close to unity, suggesting extensive transplacental transfer of TPM. The mean milk/maternal plasma concentration ratio was 0.86 (range, 0.67-1.1) at 2-3 weeks after delivery. The milk/maternal plasma concentration ratios at sampling 1 and 3 months after delivery were similar (0.86 and 0.69, respectively). Two to 3 weeks after delivery, two of the breast-fed infants had detectable (>0.9 ╡M) concentrations of TPM, although below the limit of quantification (2.8 ╡M), and one had an undetectable concentration. Conclusions: Our limited data suggest free passage of TPM over the placenta and an extensive transfer into breast milk. Breast-fed infants had very low TPM concentrations, and no adverse effects were observed in the infants.
