Sintering Inhibition of Silver Nanoparticle Films via AgCl Nanocrystal Formation2017In: Nanomaterials, ISSN 2079-4991, Vol. 7, no 8, article id 224Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Electrically conductive films are key components in most printed and flexible electronics applications. For the solution processing of conductive films, inks containing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) remain important because of their relatively easy processing and generally low resistivity after a sintering procedure. Because the commonly used, moderate sintering temperatures of 150-300 °C are still too high for most low-cost flexible substrates, expanding the knowledge of surface-ink interactions that affect the sintering temperature is desirable. It is known that chloride ions can assist the sintering of AgNP films by displacing capping agents on the surfaces of AgNPs. However, very little is known about other possible Cl-AgNP interactions that affect the resistivity and no interaction having the opposite effect (sintering inhibition) has been identified before. Here we identify such a Cl-AgNP interaction giving sintering inhibition and find that the mechanism involves the formation of AgCl nanocrystals within the AgNP film. The AgCl formation was observed after inkjet-printing of AgNP inks with polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) as the capping agent onto papers with quick-absorbing coatings containing 0.3 wt % KCl. Our findings show that chloride can have opposite roles during sintering, either assisting or inhibiting the sintering depending on the prevalence of AgCl formation. The prevalence of AgCl formation depends on the absorption properties and the capping agent.

Assisted sintering of silver nanoparticle inkjet inks on paper with active coatings2015In: RSC Advances, ISSN 2046-2069, E-ISSN 2046-2069, Vol. 5, p. 64841-64849Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Inkjet-printed metal films are important within the emerging field of printed electronics. For large-scale manufacturing, low-cost flexible substrates and low temperature sintering is desired. Tailored coated substrates are interesting for roll-to-roll fabrication of printed electronics, since a suitable tailoring of the ink-substrate system may reduce, or remove, the need for explicit sintering. Here we utilize specially designed coated papers, containing chloride as an active sintering agent. The built-in sintering agent greatly assists low-temperature sintering of inkjet-printed AgNP films. Further, we examine the effect of variations in coating pore size and precoating type. Interestingly, we find that the sintering is substantially affected by these parameters.

Inkjet Fabrication of Copper Patterns for Flexible Electronics: Using Paper with Active Precoatings2015In: ACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, ISSN 1944-8244, E-ISSN 1944-8252, Vol. 7, no 33, p. 18273-18282Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Low-cost solution-processing of highly conductive films is important for the expanding market of printed electronics. For roll-to-roll manufacturing, suitable flexible substrates and compatible postprocessing are essential. Here, custom-developed coated papers are demonstrated to facilitate the inkjet fabrication of high performance copper patterns. The patterns are fabricated in ambient conditions using water-based CuO dispersion and intense pulsed light (IPL) processing. Papers using a porous CaCO3 precoating, combined with an acidic mesoporous absorption coating, improve the effectiveness and reliability of the IPL process. The processing is realizable within 5 ms, using a single pulse of light. A resistivity of 3.1 ± 0.12 μΩ·cm is achieved with 400 μm wide conductors, corresponding to more than 50% of the conductivity of bulk copper. This is higher than previously reported results for IPL-processed copper.

Sintering Methods for Metal Nanoparticle Inks on Flexible Substrates2009In: NIP 25: DIGITAL FABRICATION 2009, TECHNICAL PROGRAM AND PROCEEDINGS, The Society for Imaging Science and Technology, 2009, p. 614-617Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In this paper a number of selective sintering methods suitable for inkjet printed nanoparticles are demonstrated on two different coated papers. The selective methods demonstrated here are electric current heating, microwave sintering and photonic curing. As a reference, conventional heat chamber sintering is also included. Conductivity measurements and studies of sintered structures with optical and scanning electron microscopy are performed, as well as a qualitative evaluation of how the heat-sensitive substrates are affected. The purpose is to analyze characteristics of each method and gain insight in how different process parameters affect overall performance and reliability. With heat chamber sintering the best achievable conductivity without substrate deformation corresponded to less than 20% of pure silver. With some selective methods, conductivity reached well above 50% of pure silver.

Paper Surfaces for Metal Nanoparticle Inkjet Printing2012In: Applied Surface Science, ISSN 0169-4332, E-ISSN 1873-5584, Vol. 259, p. 731-739Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The widespread usage of paper and board offer largely unexploited possibilities for printed electronics applications. Reliability and performance of printed devices on comparatively rough and inhomogenous surfaces of paper does however pose challenges.Silver nanoparticle ink has been deposited on ten various paper substrates by inkjet printing. The papers are commercially available, and selected over a range of different types and construction. A smooth nonporous polyimide film was included as a nonporous reference substrate. The substrates have been characterized in terms of porosity, absorption rate, apparent surface energy, surface roughness and material content. The electrical conductivity of the resulting printed films have been measured after drying at 60°C and again after additional sintering at 110°C. A qualitative analysis of the conductivity differences on the different substrates based on surface characterization and SEM examination is presented. Measurable parameters of importance to the final conductivity are pointed out, some of which are crucial to achieve conductivity. When certain criteria of the surfaces are met, paper media can be used as low cost, but comparably high performance substrates for metal nanoparticle inks in printed electronics applications.

Universitetsstudenters uppfattning om aktivitet, ett centralt begrepp inom arbetsterapi2009Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Background: The research of implementation processes in the public health area is still relatively limited. Implementation concerns the procedure of putting into action a new method or program into an organization’s internal, everyday operation. Implementation encompasses the realization of, and the carrying through of, for example a program, but an important aspect is also that the implementation has the desired effect. To make sure that the result of a method in practice will be positive, it is of greatest importance that the implementation works. It does not matter how well the method works, if it does not have the support of the organization.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine possibilities and obstacles of implementation of a program in social and emotional learning, Second Step, among 4-6 year olds in preschool/school. Method: On assignment from the public health team in the counties in northern Örebro, an evaluation of the implementation of the program in the four municipalities Lindesberg, Nora, Hällefors and Ljusnarsberg was performed. The sample consisted of all educationalists that had completed the Second Step 1 training, a total of 182 individuals. A quantitative approach was chosen, as the idea was to reach a greater number of educationalists. Data was collected through a questionnaire and analyzed with the help of SPSS and a simple kind of content analysis.

Result: The reply frequency was 37%, which is too low for a generalization of the result. 72% of the respondents worked at a preschool/school that at the time used Second Step 1 in the organization. All in all, about 90% of the respondents had worked at a preschool/school that had used Second Step 1 in the organization at some point. Most of the respondents were pleased with Second Step as a program. The majority of the respondents stated that the practical introduction of Second Step had functioned well and the fidelity was relatively high with a few exceptions. Factors that have made the implementation of Second Step possible is need for social and emotional learning, positive attitudes, leader support, visible effects of the program, access to premises, flexibility and settled times. Factors that have proven to be obstacles for the implementation of Second Step are problems with the group composition, lack of support from colleagues, lack of access to premises and lack of time to plan and perform.

Discussion/conclusions: Theresult has been put in relation to earlier research and the discovered tendencies correspond well with earlier theories and models. Second Step indicates to be relevant as a program, though the need of social and emotional learning in preschool/school seems to exist, which at an early stage makes the implementation possible. Other facilitating implementation factors tend to vary in importance depending on where in the process the program is. Overall, the fidelity is satisfactory, but it would probably have been more beneficial with clearer goals and guidelines for the program in the organizations. An evaluating exchange meeting could have been valuable to facilitate the program skill development among the educationalists.

Future research: One example for future studies can be to put more focus on those who stop using the program and reasons for this. This study may also be a basis for, and facilitate, future studies, especially considering the method and discussion of the method which can contribute to improve control over the survey in similar studies.

Earnings Management: En studie om earnings management förekommer vid stock-for-stock-förvärv2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Multiculturalism versus Civic Integration: - A discourse study of Sweden and Britain2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Immigration is a phenomena with increasing importance today, with a larger number of immigrants coming to Europe than in several decades. How nation states in Europe handle this is essential for the development of their respective society as well as for international relations and the shaping of public opinion around the globe. A crucial question is how immigrant's, with the inevitable culture that comes with them, are perceived; are they seen as individuals that could bring possible benefits to the destination state, or rather as something to be overcome once integrated to the society?

Sweden and Britain are two states with a history of having a multicultural approach towards immigrants. Multiculturalism in the meaning of state-minority relations that allow and celebrate differences in cultures and facilitates the distinctive practises and rights of these cultures. It is essentially seen as a liberal alternative towards assimilation. On the other side of multiculturalism civic integration is found, with the view that immigrants should adjust to the culture of their destination state once immigrated. Kymlicka and Banting argue that a liberal form of civic integration is becoming of importance in many nations, compatible and layered on top of existing multicultural policies. Joppke on the other hand, argues that multiculturalism is failing throughout Europe, blamed for segregation and extremism.

This study of political discourse shows that Sweden is a state with relatively similar discourse as their high score on MCP index indicates. Differences due to spokespersons can be detected but the overall result is showing consistently multicultural values. In Britain on the other hand the story is not as solid. Government representatives are not as consistent with one and other, all dimensions of the scale detected. In both states, however more frequently in Britain – statements are inconclusive. The British representatives of the government claim incompatible aspects of multiculturalism and civic integration. This is believed to be due to populist reasons, in so called mainstream politics, something the Prime Minister of Britain has been accused for before, both from opposition and scholars.

Important findings. concerning that assumptions made on the failure of multiculturalism, is detected to be precipitous. It is reasonable to believe that this could be detected in other European countries as well, why further research is necessary.

Newsmill och PK-maffian: Newsmill som arena för debatt i en deltagardemokratisk process2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Nationality, Sexuality & Liberation: A Field Study of the Interconnections of Feminism and Nationalism in Palestine2016Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates the interconnections of feminism and nationalism in the context of Palestine, and is based on a Minor Field Study of interviews with Palestinian women working for women’s rights. The study investigates their views and opinions when it comes to issues related to sexual proprietariness; the view that men own women and their reproductive abilities (Taylor & Jasinski, 2011:249f), and demography in relation to the Palestinian national struggle against the Israeli occupation. The women interviewed in this study argue for the importance of struggling for women’s and Palestinian rights in parallel, partly because the Israeli occupation is said to hinder the work for women’s rights in different ways. The ideology of the Palestinian women’s rights activists interviewed in this study can be said to be an example of nationalist feminism (McClintock, 1997:109) since they are trying to combine feminism and nationalism. By basing their rhetoric on the concept freedom from oppression combining feminism and nationalism is made possible, especially within national liberation movements. The thesis concludes with a discussion about why it might not be nationalism per se that is negatively correlated with women’s rights, but rather conservatism, and it argues that finding a way to theoretically connect individual and collective rights is of great importance in order to manage the struggles.

The Factories of Men?: A study of Hamas’ statements and politics concerning women within a theoretical framework of Islamic feminism2013Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This study examines Hamas’ policies and opinions on women’s rights and participation in the public sphere from a perspective of Islamic feminism. A theoretical framework of Islamic feminism is developed in this thesis and can be applied to other Islamist organisations and parties. The study shows that Hamas’ policies and statements on the topic of women’s rights and political participation have changed from not qualifying as feminist at all to showing tendencies of an Islamic feminism in line with the Legalist model presented. This is partly due to the democratic elements of Hamas, which points towards that this might be a possible future for other Islamist parties which have gained power democratically, such as from the Arab spring.

In an academic programme, completion of a postgraduate degree project could be a significant means of promoting student learning in evidence- and experience-based practice. In specialist nursing education, which through the European Bologna process would be raised to the master's level, there is no tradition of including a postgraduate degree project. The aim was to develop a didactic model for specialist nursing students' postgraduate degree projects within the second cycle of higher education (master's level) and with a specific focus on nurturing shared involvement between universities and healthcare settings. This study embodies a participatory action research and theory-generating design founded on empirically practical try-outs. The 3-year project included five Swedish universities and related healthcare settings. A series of activities was performed and a number of data sources secured. Constant comparative analysis was applied. A didactic model is proposed for postgraduate degree projects in specialist nursing education aimed at nurturing shared involvement between universities and healthcare settings. Exploration of communicative patterns of consultations in palliative cancer care2008In: European Journal of Oncology Nursing, ISSN 1462-3889, E-ISSN 1532-2122, Vol. 12, no 1, p. 44-52Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Building on the research conducted on institutional communication, and the analysis of actual communication taking place in clinical settings, this study describes and highlights features of palliative care consultations and focuses on the distribution of discursive space (i.e., share of words, lengths of turns), occurring topics and conversational frames. Six consultations between physicians, patients and significant others were videotaped and all participants took part in audio-taped interviews. The recordings were transcribed and analysed in regard to expectations of, the discursive space of, and topics addressed in the consultations. The distribution of the discursive space was unequal, the physicians had the greatest share of words and length of turns in all six consultations, and they mostly initiated discussion of medical issues connected to examinations and treatment, while only patients initiated the topic of the patient's future. During the consultations, institutional framing tended to dominate over client framing. There was found to be room for further study of the structure and content of palliative care consultations with emphasis on how the voice of the patient can manifest itself within the framework of the medical agenda of the consultation and its significance for palliative cancer team work. © 2007 Elsevier Ltd. Den svårt sjuke eller döende patientens upplevelse av vård och omvårdnad i livets slutskede: En litteraturöversikt2012Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Relatives in end-of-life care – part 2: a theory for enabling safety2007In: Journal of Clinical Nursing, ISSN 0962-1067, E-ISSN 1365-2702, Vol. 16, no 2, p. 382-390Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

AIM: To develop a goal-oriented praxis theory for enabling safety for relatives when an adult or older patient is close to end-of-life.

BACKGROUND: This is the second part of a project focusing on the situation and needs of relatives in end-of-life care. Our interpretation of the existing corpus of knowledge pertaining to the needs of close relatives in this situation showed the significance of relatives' need for safety.

METHOD: The theory was developed step-by-step, through triangulation of critical review of empirical research in the field, our own clinical experiences from end-of-life care, renewed literature searches and theoretical reasoning.

THEORY: The foundation for the theory is taken from the ethical intention of the philosopher Paul Ricoeur. From this, the theory focuses on relatives in the context of end-of-life care with the goal of enabling safety. This is proposed by four aphorisms functioning as safety enablers and these are directed towards the professional's approach and attitude, the relative's concern for the patient, the specific situation for the relative and the patient's end-of-life period as a period in the life of the relative.

RELEVANCE TO CLINICAL PRACTICE: Implications for end-of-life practice are considered and include aspects for promotion of just institutions in end-of-life care, the significance of negotiated partnership in end-of-life care, enabling safety for relatives living in existential and practical uncertainty in connection with end-of-life care and diversity of relatives' preferences as they live through this particular period.
