Differences in descriptions of boys and girls are studied in 26 child protection cases. There are several differences, i.e. boys are described as aggressive and girls as worried.
The purpose is to develop a problemfocused work model for child protection investigations. Eight investigations are critically examined and five well informed persons are interviewed. The investigations were judged to have defects. A problemfocused work model is presented.

The purpose is to investigate what categories of conversation memories occur from police interrogators and from interviewed children. Twenty police interrogations were examined. One category system is shown for different conversation memories by the interrogators and two category systems are shown for the conversation memories from those who are interviewed.
Preschool children (N = 32; boys and girls 3 and 5 year old) were interviewed, first in a neutral manner and then with some press. The resulats showed changed patterns of responding when press was used.

The purpose is to investigate what happens with conversation content when remembered after seven days. Twenty conversations in pairs were recorded and the content was compared with memories of the conversation after seven days. A number of memory phenomena and errors were found, e.g. more than half of the themes disappeared.
The purpose is to study memory of a recorded group conversation between 4 persons. One group of participants (N=20) received only auditory presentation and one group (N=20) received visual+auditory presentation of the recorded group conversation. Memory was studied by recall and recognition. The result suggests that visual presentation strengthens recall, recognition and confidence of a presented group conversation.
The purpose is to study the effect of length and emotional state of instructions when they are recalled. Two groups (12 +12) of firemen participated. Four instructions (short/long, normal tone/feeling tone) were used. Length had effect but feeling tone had no effect. Memory errors occurred. Confidence was low.
Totally 138 cases of verbal repetitions among preschool children have been collected. No age difference has been found, but the boys have a peak somewhat later than the girls. The personnel differs in how they handle repetitions. No case has been reported to the social services.
This study with five scenario cases and eleven social workers suggests that the social services has little knowledge about neurological disorders, and that may lead to misjudgments.
The purpose is to examine investigative work in cases of sexual abuse in Sweden. A systematic search for common problem areas in the investigative process was made in 15 cases with extensive documentation. In at least two thirds of the cases four problem themes were found to be important: I. Investigation strategy and generation of data, II. Documentation of data, III. Analysis work, IV. Ethics. The main conclusion is that there are serious defects in the investigative methods in all cases reviewec. The investigative methods are biased and incompatible with the objectivity principle stated in Swedish laws. There is a need for critical and scientific thinking in investigative work.

In an investigation with linear typal analysis on a representative sample of the Swedish population (N = 229 participants) and a local sample with N=31 environmental activists two attitudinal types were found.
Type I respondents seemed to be more concerned than type II respondents. Type I gave environmental problems a higher priority, was critical against authorities, industry, city growth, and motorism, more restrictive against economic growth, more worried about the future, and demanded more information and public influence than type II. By computing Euclidean distances to the mean 64-variable profile of the two types 28 of the activists were classified as type I. The typology was crosstabulated against 46 other variables. Anmälan gjordes utan erforderlig preciserad saklig grund och socialtjänsten underlät kritisk prövning och ägnade lång tid åt att utreda ingenting. Det uppställs och prövas sex hypoteser på det dokumentmaterial som inte härrör från den kritiske fadern. BUP:s och socialtjänstens hantering av fallet är inte sakligt och etiskt godtagbar. Ett antal tankefel listas.
Some questionable patterns of thinking in the child protection investigations, in compulsory placement of children, in Sweden, are critically discussed. It is also suggested that a kind of psychotic thinking (self-insight is weak) named "hunting the monster theory" lies behind many phenomena in the thinking of the investigators in the child protection investigations. Twelve hypotheses are formulated about this theory. It should be clear that this theory can be relevant to a subset of cases, not to all cases in compulsory placement and not to the many cases with voluntary placement.
Based upon the author´s field experience as an expert witness cognitive biases in investigations and decisions are discussed.
