    Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate the background to the introducing of professional certification among medical health care social workers and to investigate how social workers and union representatives discusses about the meaning of the certificate. As for today hospital social workers are the only profession in the health care context who are not authorized which sometimes affects them and their profession in a negative way in their daily work. Lawmakers finds lack of authorization a risk factor for the patient safety. Three social workers and two union representatives have been interviewed and the result has been analyzed with professional theory and related concepts. The informants believes that the authorization will increase the power of the social workers in the medical context including having stronger autonomy and higher status. But the study have also discovered some eventual negative consequences such as hierarchization among social workers and challenges attracting enough students to study another year if higher salary will not be guaranteed.

    Abstract

To gain knowledge about why social competence is seen as complex and diffuse led to our choice of survey. The aim was to get an understanding on what social competence means to managers and how they handle this valuable competence during a generation exchange. We will describe relevant theories considering social competence and the handling of the phenomenon. We have also taken help from two research studies which illustrate social competence and social competence as a decisive factor during employment. We have carried out seven interviews with managers employed in different units in a municipality. To our assistance we have used relevant literature from previous research. The result of the interviews has been analysed and essential information has been presented. Seeing as social competence is defined differently from person to person it causes certain unclearness in its meaning to different parties. Social competence is seen as important in future organisations and has significance in a society, where the individual has to be independent but at the same time adjustable. Communication reflects an important part of social competence and also while handling generation exchanges. The results from our survey show that it is essential that organisations are unambiguous, or alike, in their definition of social competence, this meaning that employment during a generation exchange can be handled with the same conditions.
