Copingstrategier för att hantera stress och oro hos KBT- och övriga studenter2016Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

How stress and anxiety are handled is vital to health. To develop knowledge about coping this study aims to investigate differences in the prevalence and correlation between problemfocused, emotionfocused and avoidanceoriented coping and also in defensive pessimism. A quantitative survey was conducted with 62 CBT-students and 87 other students from different courses. The results showed that CBT students use problemfocused coping more than other students, that other students use emotionfocused coping more than CBT-students and that older CBT-students use defensive pessimism less than younger CBT-students. A negative correlation was also found between problemfocused and emotionfocused coping and a positive correlation between emotionfocused coping and defensive pessimism. In summary, the study shows that there are correlations between, as well as age- and educational differences in the use of different coping strategies.

Transdiagnostiska riskfaktorer för kronisk smärta och social ångest hos ungdomar2020Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

WordCommentsAnalyzer: A windows software tool for qualitative research2018In: F1000 Research, E-ISSN 2046-1402, Vol. 7, article id 536Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

There is a lack of free software that provides a professional and smooth experience in text editing and markup for qualitative data analysis. Word processing software like Microsoft Word provides a good editing experience, allowing the researcher to effortlessly add comments to text portions. However, organizing the keywords and categories in the comments can become a more difficult task when the amount of data increases. We present WordCommentsAnalyzer, a software tool that is written in C# using .NET Framework and OpenXml, which helps a qualitative researcher to organize codes when using Microsoft Word as the primary text markup software. WordCommentsAnalyzer provides an effective user interface to count codes, to organize codes in a code hierarchy, and to see various data extracts belonging to each code. It also offers basic visualization tools. We illustrate how to use this software by conducting a preliminary content analysis on Tweets with the #successfulaging hashtag. We also demonstrate that the software has satisfactory performance on a large dataset of Iranian journals abstracts. We hope this open-source software will facilitate qualitative data analysis by researchers who are interested in using Word for this purpose.

Bilaga 2: En utvärdering av Skolval 20102015In: Öva och ta ställning: En utvärdering av arbetet med skolvalen 2014 / [ed] Björnstam, Linnea, Myndigheten för ungdoms- och civilsamhällesfrågor , 2015, , p. 9p. 47-55Chapter in book (Other (popular science, discussion, etc.))
    Abstract [sv]

Dissatisfied citizens: an asset or a burden in democratic functioning of a society?Manuscript (preprint) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Past research has shown that, whereas the majority of people in democracies support the idea of democracy as a form of governance, some citizens are dissatisfied with the democratic institutions and the way democracy performs. In this paper, we examined democratic characteristics of dissatisfied youths to understand the role they play in the democratic functioning of a society. Based on youth’s dissatisfaction with the performance of political institutions and the principles of democracy, we identified four groups distinct of citizens. Then, we compared these groups in terms of their political engagement, knowledge and interest, values and attitudes, and law breaking attitudes. The results showed that youths with high levels of principle- and performance-driven dissatisfaction were less likely to participate in politics, less knowledgeable and interested in political issues, and more likely to break the laws, even if people got hurt compared to other three groups. In contrast, youths who were only dissatisfied with the performance of democratic institutions were more likely to participate in politics, and have higher humanistic values and tolerance towards immigrants. By examining distinct groups of dissatisfied citizens and their democratic characteristics, the current study contributes to the general debate on the role of dissatisfied citizens in democracies.

    Abstract [en]

Past research has shown that, although a majority of citizens in democracies support the idea of democracy as a form of governance, some tend to be distrustful of democratic institutions and express dissatisfaction with the way democracy works. It is argued in this article that to better understand the role of various groups of dissatisfied citizens in the democratic functioning of a society, one should examine their democratic characteristics. Based on youth's dissatisfaction with the performance of political institutions and the principles of democracy, four distinct groups of citizens are identified. These groups are then compared in terms of their political engagement, knowledge and interest, values and attitudes, and disposition to break the law. The results showed that youths with high levels of principle- and performance-driven dissatisfaction were less likely to participate in politics, less knowledgeable and interested in political issues, and more likely to break the law, even if people got hurt compared with other groups. In contrast, youths who were only dissatisfied with the performance of democratic institutions were more likely to participate in politics, and had higher tolerance towards immigrants, and political interest and knowledge. They were also more likely, peacefully and without harming other people, to break the law to change society. Overall, by examining distinct groups of dissatisfied citizens and their democratic characteristics, this study contributes to the general debate on the role of dissatisfied citizens in democracies.

2017Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

The Association of Physical Activity and DepressiveSymptoms, and the Role of Emotion Regulation2018Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Given increases in depressive symptoms among Swedish adolescents, we investigated theassociation between physical activity and depressive symptoms, and the role of emotionalregulation plays in these associations. In a longitudinal study, the sample was gathered fromthree mid-sized cities in Sweden. The participants were adolescents aged 13 to 19 years with atotal sample size of 2973 participants. Our research questions were: Is physical activityrelated to depressive symptoms? What is the direction of this association? Does emotiondysregulation mediate the association between physical activity and depressive symptoms? We analyzed the data using hierarchical regressions, testing indirect effects. The resultsshowed that there was an association between emotion dysregulation and depressivesymptoms. However, there was no association between physical activity and depressivesymptoms nor a mediating effect in either direction.

    Abstract [en]

The purpose of the essay is to examine whether, and if so how, young adults' experiences of separation and contested custody between parents during childhood influenced their attitudes to coexistence issues. Further, the intention is to seek answers to questions regarding: the best interests of the child, attitudes towards relationships, separation and marriage, as well as the current relationship to the parents. The interpretative framework adopted to interpret and understand the empirical material is based on the initial provisions under chapter 6, some risks with the social workers' approach, the children's sense of responsibility, loyalty and concealment, the child’s survival strategies as well as cognitive dissonance theory.  These are considered effective to highlight young adults' experiences in childhood and their attitudes to coexistence issues. A qualitative method was applied to obtain the empirical material. Five female respondents were interviewed using a semi-structured interview guide. The essay’s findings indicate that the principle of the child’s best interests is not always applicable for the young adults during childhood. Their attitude towards relationships, separation and marriage is characterized by an open attitude to different family constellations with good qualities, positive and negative consequences of their parents' separation and a desire to get married in the future. The relationship today remains good with one parent, while the relationship with the other parent differs.

The purpose of this study is to identify which treatment models that are available for men who use violence against women in intimate relationships and the effects of the most commonly used treatment interventions. The further aim is to examine the theoretical assumptions and processing content of treatment models. The present study was conducted as a literature review where knowledge about treatment models for violent men in intimate relationships are compiled. Our results demonstrate that the treatment models that are most commonly used are Emerge, The Duluth Model, Change and ATV (Alternatives to Violence). Evaluations show that most treatment models exhibit small but significant effects and recurrence of violent crime decreases in the short term. Research highlights, however problems about the difficulties associated with evaluating treatment programs.

What kind of norms and values determine a good friendship? In aqualitative study three men and three women aged 20-30 years oldwere interviewed. The respondents who were recruited through aconvenience sampling were asked to answer questions concerningtheir view about friendship. After analyzing the interview protocol, three common themes were identified: trust acceptance and intimacy.Friendship showed to be a significant part when it came to people andtheir wellbeing. The study also showed that men and women haddifferent expectations for what that friendship will entail and thesedifferences were based on norms and values. It seems that norms andvalues are developed through the existing culture in society and inover time.

Myofascial Pelvic Pain: Best Orientation and Clinical Practice. Position of the European Association of Urology Guidelines Panel on Chronic Pelvic Pain2023In: European Urology Focus, E-ISSN 2405-4569, Vol. 9, no 1, p. 172-177Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

CONTEXT: Despite the high prevalence of a myofascial pain component in chronic pelvic pain (CPP) syndromes, awareness and management of this component are lacking among health care providers.

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the current state of the art for the management of myofascial pain in chronic primary pelvic pain syndromes (CPPPS) according to scientific research and input from experts from the European Association of Urology (EAU) guidelines panel on CPP.

EVIDENCE ACQUISITION: A narrative review was undertaken using three sources: (1) information in the EAU guidelines on CPP; (2) information retrieved from the literature on research published in the past 3 yr on myofascial pelvic pain; and (3) expert opinion from panel members.

EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS: Studies confirm a high prevalence of a myofascial pain component in CPPPS. Examination of the pelvic floor muscles should follow published recommendations to standardize findings and disseminate the procedure. Treatment of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and pain in the context of CPP was found to contribute to CPP control and is feasible via different physiotherapy techniques. A multidisciplinary approach is the most effective.

CONCLUSIONS: Despite its high prevalence, the myofascial component of CPP has been underevaluated and undertreated to date. Myofascial pain must be assessed in all patients with CPPPS. Treatment of the myofascial pain component is relevant for global treatment success. Further studies are imperative to reinforce and better define the role of each physiotherapy technique in CPPPS.

PATIENT SUMMARY: Pain and inflammation of the body's muscle and soft tissues (myofascial pain) frequently occurs in pelvic pain syndromes. Its presence must be evaluated to optimize management for each patient. If diagnosed, myofascial pain should be treated.

Parental Burnout among Somali Mothers:Associations with Psychological, Psychosocial, and Sociodemographic factors2022Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Parenthood can be defined by the contradiction that it is one of the most satisfying yet stressful experiences in life. Nevertheless, research on parental burnout is scant and many studies have only examined the condition in Western settings. Furthermore, there is minimal research on parental burnout during the pandemic and its association to various factors. The aim of this study was therefore to examine parental burnout among Somali mothers in Mogadishu, Somalia, during the COVID 19-pandemic, and its association with certain psychological, psychosocial, and sociodemographic factors. In this cross-sectional study, data was collected through the measurements Parental Burnout Assessment and Patient Health Questionnaire 9, as well as through social and demographic questions. A total of 882 Somali mothers in Mogadishu participated. The analysis methods used were univariate, bivariate, and multiple linear regression analysis methods. The results revealed that the collective estimate of parental burnout was low among the sample. Additionally, the results indicated a significant association between higher levels of parental burnout and higher levels of depression, perceived lack of social support, being unmarried, having a low monthly household income, and when the youngest child was of school-age. The main findings were moreover analysed though Bronfenbrenner's Bioecological Systems Theory and the Balance between Risks and Resources theory. This study was the first to examine parental burnout among mothers in Somalia. As such, this thesis stressed the importance of continuing to conduct research on parental burnout, as well as examining the condition in other settings in order to achieve a more grounded knowledge base for professionals.

Gender Competent Criminal Law2023In: Gender-Competent Legal Education / [ed] Dragica Vujadinović; Mareike Fröhlich; Thomas Giegerich, Springer, 2023, p. 429-465Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

The following chapter deals with the general and special part of criminal law from a gender perspective. It analyses, in particular, the provisions from the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence, the Istanbul Convention, from 2011. The Istanbul Convention is the most comprehensive international legal instrument that outlines binding obligations to states to prevent and combat violence against women and girls. Furthermore, the Istanbul Convention contains several institutes and behaviours that have to be criminalised in the respective national jurisdictions, covering and combining dogmatics and criminal policy issues with a foundation substantially based on gender. The chapter also explores gender issues in a more general way, interpreting criminal law and its challenges towards gender equality. The special part raises questions regarding criminal law and its compatibility with the Istanbul Convention and national laws.

Trygghet, stöd och effektiva vårdprocesser– finns det en relation mellan nätverk, samverkan, ej fungerande samverkan och vårdtid påsvenska rättspsykiatriska kliniker?2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

The aim of the present study was to examine the relationship betweennetwork, cooperation, non-functioning cooperation and length of stayfor patients treated in forensic psychiatry in Sweden. Forensicpsychiatric care aims to rehabilitate and reduce the risk ofreoffending. Previous research has shown that network andcooperation can affect the length of care. The analysis included 316patients registered between 2014-2015 for forensic psychiatric care.Data from the quality registry RättspsyK generated four variables;length of care, network, cooperation and non-functioning cooperation. The study population was divided into short and long care time groupsbased on the median length of care in forensic psychiatry. Fisher'sexact test showed that the result lacked statistical significance and isnot in line with previous research. There is reason to assume from thisstudy's findings that the relationship between networks, cooperationand length of care is more complex than previous studies have shown.

    Abstract [sv]

Studiepopulationen delades in i grupper omkort och lång vårdtid.

    Abstract [en]

Despite the fact that the issue has been discussed for several decades, there are still no rules in Sweden mandating political parties and candidates to disclose received donations. Because of this lack of transparency, Sweden is not fulfilling some of its international obligations and has fallen behind in the international trend to increase the transparency of election campaign finance. The lack of disclosure rules in Sweden has led to extensive criticism, most notably from the Council of Europe´s group of states against corruption, Greco, who criticized Sweden in light of the guidelines on the subject from the Council of Europe. At this writing, a new proposal for disclosure rules is being prepared at the Department of Justice, DoJ. The proposal is to be presented in spring 2013. For the time being, the only thing that exists regarding transparency of election finance in Sweden is an agreement from 2000, struck between some of the parties in parliament, to voluntarily disclose some of their received donations.

In 2004 a government report proposed implementing disclosure rules. The proposal received extensive criticism from the reviewing bodies regarding its compliance with the rights protection in the Swedish Instrument of Government, RF. RF provides absolute protection against the government forcing individuals to disclose their opinions in political matters and absolute protection against the government keeping records of individuals' political opinions. Since these rights are absolute, they can be restricted only by constitutional amendment. It is uncertain if disclosure rules can be considered infringements under these absolute provisions, but even if they are considered infringements, it is likely that the disclosure provisions can be designed so as not to violate the RF absolute protections. Furthermore, RF provides relative protection of the freedom of expression and association. Disclosure rules would probably not infringe the freedom of expression but are likely to be considered infringements of the freedom of association. Restrictions of the freedom of association can only be implemented in the order specified in RF and since the order for restricting the freedom of association is very rigid, it is unlikely that such a restriction would be allowed under the current RF. The DoJ has expressed that the pending proposal will not include a proposal for a constitutional amendment.

For Sweden to fulfill its international obligations in regards of transparency in campaign finance, more extensive disclosure rules must be implemented than those included in the agreement between some parties in parliament and those included in the 2004 proposal. The DoJ has expressed, however, that the pending proposal will be modeled upon both the voluntary agreement and the 2004 proposal.

It is therefore not entirely unlikely that the pending proposal will be either illegal under the constitution or not far reaching enough, or both.

ASI - verksamt eller värdelöst?: En kvalitativ undersökning om personalen på socialtjänstens tilltro till bedömningsinstrumentet ASI (Addiction Severity Index)2012Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Evidence-based practice in social services presupposes that the professionals are in favor of research-based knowledge on services an the use of assessment instruments. The purpose of this study is to examining the confidence of social workers in an adult unit, in a small town has to assess the instrument Addiction Severity Index (ASI). The study is a qualitative survey ans semi-structured interviews were chosen as a method to answer the purpose and research questions. A total of six respondents were interviewed; four social workers, one project manager and the head of unit in operation. Research shows that social workers experience different advantages and disadvantages in the use of ASI. The results show that social workers use the ASI on a regular basis in their work, but there are difficulties in implementing the ASI follow-up interview. All social workers feel that the ASI base interview is time consuming and has concerns with some of the questions. Nevertheless, they express that the use of the ASI can contribute to a legal security perspective, a structured approach and a good basis for treatment planning. The study also discusses areas for improvement in the ASI.

Privacy invasions and their association with poor parent-adolescent relationship2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In this study we examine whether privacy invasions are associatedwith poor parent-adolescent relationship. We also examined if therewere differences between mothers and fathers in the frequency oftheir invasions, as well as the intent of those invasions. Lastly, welooked at associations between privacy invasions and parentadolescentrelationships and if these were modified by parent oradolescent gender. We hypothesized that intentional and frequentprivacy invasions would have a stronger association with poorparent-adolescent relationship than accidental and infrequentinvasions of privacy. The data for this study was selected from alarger database. Participants consisted of 78 adolescents, 39 girlsand 39 boys. Data were collected through questionnaires that bothadolescent and parent answered separately. The adolescents filledout the questionnaires at school in different classrooms. Weconcluded that frequent privacy invasions had a significantassociation with poor parent-adolescent relationship for mothers, but not fathers. Furthermore, the interaction between the frequencyof privacy invasions and the intent was significant for mattering tomothers. However, no significant relations were found for fathers.
