Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In society today, there is a great focus on sustainability and that companies should contribute to sustainable development. One way to do this is through transparency between the company and its stakeholders regarding how they work on these important issues. This is done through sustainability reports that can be designed in different ways, but this study focuses on those that follow the Global Reporting Initiative, which is the dominant framework globally.

Prior research has shown mixed conclusions regarding GRI and its usefulness. In these, both positive and negative aspects of the framework have been highlighted. This study examines what and how high and low ranked businesses based on SBI report to study the usefulness of GRI. In addition, various theories will be used to examine what may be the reasons for the similarities and differences between the groups. This result is also related to prior research that studied sustainability reporting in connection with the selected theories.

The study was conducted as a method where qualitative data was quantified through a quantitative content analysis. The sustainability reports of 32 companies were reviewed based on their GRI-index and data was then statistically tested using Chi-square-tests and a Fisher's exact test. The study shows that there is no significant difference in what the high and low ranked businesses report. This difference applies to the total number of indicators as well as within the different series, economic, environmental and social. Regarding how the companies report, the study shows that the low ranked businesses are more likely to report indicators for which they do not meet the requirements, this result is also statistically significant. The reasons for the similarities and differences that were identified can be discussed in relations to institutional theory, legitimacy theory and stakeholder theory.

Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

More recently, there has been increased pressure on politically controlled organizations, including municipalities, to become more flexible and find new ways of working. With increased projectification and an increased efficiency as an endeavour for this, it has created organizational tensions in municipal projects. Here, the agile working method in projects has emerged and is seen as a potential solution and a new way of working in projects for a municipal activity.

The purpose of this study has been to investigate how projects are conducted in a municipal activity and with the issues, how does the agile working method relate to projects at a municipal level and how does the project relate to political governance. In order to be able to answer these, semi-structured interviews were conducted with project managers from different municipalities, with a total of six respondents. The collected material has then been coded through a thematic analysis.

It is stated that projects carried out in the municipal area need to relate to, among other things, political governance, laws and frameworks. Results also illustrate that there are changes during the course of the projects in municipal projects, which is a burden. The result also indicates that an agile way of working could improve with faster handling of changes in projects. The agile way of working would also work in smaller municipalities because the result indicates that the projects conducted in smaller municipalities are not of the same scope, budget and timeframe, which suits the agile working method.

Wood We Change?: Business Model Innovation Towards Sustainability Transitions: Studying the Wood Construction Industry2021Licentiate thesis, comprehensive summary (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Innovations based on sustainable technologies have been widely considered as a remedy for addressing societal and environmental problems in many industries. However, the large-scale adoption of such innovations goes beyond technology and requires organizing the business in a way that drive industrial transformations across actors and system layers, such as market structures, institutional frames, consumer behavior, and business values.

The aim of this dissertation is to understand how industrial firms organize for system change towards sustainability. The study is a compilation of two papers within the same research context: the development of sustainable technology in the construction industry. The overlapping unit of analysis for both papers is business model innovation. Paper I examines how industry firms combine and complement business models with different innovation types to accelerate sustainable technology. Paper II identifies how a change in the business model and value creation logic that occur on a firm level accelerate sustainable technology and shape the socio-technical system. Together, both papers help paint a more complete picture of the business model role in transitions towards sustainability. The theoretical frame of this dissertation spans several domains: business model, innovation management, and sustainability transitions. Building on a multi-disciplinary premise, the study takes into account the organizational and the systemic parts of the change process by linking the company perspective (business models) to the wider governance of sustainability transitions.

The findings underline the importance of business models that combine production efficiency with higher customer engagement and more collective value creation for driving larger-scale transitions toward sustainability. Moreover, business models in combination with different innovation types, such as product, process and positioning, act together and complement each other to achieve high sustainability and business outcomes.

Legitimacy strategies in sustainability reporting: A study of negative disclosure strategies' impact on stakeholders2023Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 80 credits / 120 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Sustainability reports should provide a balanced picture of a company’s sustainability aspects, but because of its voluntary nature, overly positive aspects are often presented (Holder-Webb et al., 2009; Lougee & Wallace, 2008). Though, negative disclosure may also be released as it could improve transparency, enhance trust, and decrease the risk of green or whitewashing tendencies (Hahn & Lüfs, 2014, Hahn & Reimsbach, 2013). However, when disclosing negative information, it is important for companies to legitimize the negative aspects, as the negative information could otherwise harm the company. As a result of this, different legitimacy strategies are used by companies when disclosing negative information (Hahn et al., 2021). Based on this, this thesis explores and analyses strategies for disclosing negative sustainability information. In particular, the study examines companies within the fast fashion industry, a heavily debated sector in regard to sustainability, which indicates that the companies within the business should try to legitimize themselves.

To fulfil the purpose of this study the choice was made to conduct a content analysis and semi-structured interviews, where four fast fashion companies’ (H&M, SHEIN, Boohoo and American Eagle) sustainability reports were analysed to identify negative sustainability disclosure and assess how the companies’ tried to legitimize these negative aspects. Later, the disclosure strategies’ impacts on stakeholders were examined through 10 semi-structured interviews with concerned stakeholders. The results show that the companies subject to research did use the strategies corrective action, marginalization, abstraction, and preventive action to legitimize negative sustainability issues. The strategies were often not effective in enhancing legitimacy mainly because of too vague measures, but also because of the disbelief from stakeholders regarding the industry’s will and ability to change. However, the findings also indicated that the negative disclosure could enhance a bit of legitimacy as it signalled transparency and accountability, which is preferred compared to denial or compliance.

The study’s implications are important for scholars and practitioners. The theoretical contributions were added to the research field of negative disclosure and legitimacy strategies, and the implications are important for managers working within the fast fashion industry as well. This is because the results of this study will develop their knowledge of how certain negative disclosures strategies can play a both positive and negative role in enhancing the legitimacy towards stakeholders.

Lean-koncept i praktiken: En studie om implementeringen av Lean-koncept i en statlig organisation2015Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Mäklare tjugofyrasju: En studie om hur mäklare lyckas kombinera arbete och familjeliv2014Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Impact of Internal Control on Fraud Detection and Prevention in Microfinance Institutions2021Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 80 credits / 120 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Microfinance institutions (MFIs) are an important tool of poverty reduction which has gained grounds over the years and grown rapidly given the services they provide. The rapid growth of the MFIs has had huge challenges on their regulatory framework which in turn has resulted in the prevalence of fraudulent cases. With the devasting effects of fraud on MFIs and the importance of MFIs in many economies this thesis aims to examine how the design and use of internal control impact fraud detection and prevention in MFIs. To achieve this aim, a qualitative study was conducted with a case study on eight MFIs in Cameroon. Primary data will be obtained from fourteen semi-structured interviews. Data will be analysed manually using thematic analysis. The findings revealed that internal control has a positive impact on fraud detection and prevention in MFIs by reducing fraud incentive, opportunity, rationalization, and capability. Further, findings revealed that the greatest causes of fraud in MFIs are poor remuneration, weak monitoring, and a poor internal control system. Therefore, for the purpose of future fraud prevention, MFIs should ensure to improve their remuneration schemes, improve1 their monitoring system and ensure regular internal control system updates in term of software and design. The study also, suggests further research on this topic in MFIs with a case study in other countries of the world. It will also be interesting for other researchers to explore how the aspect of capability as a key determinant of fraud can be reduced. This thesis contributes to academic literature as there is lack of studies on the impact of internal control on fraud detection and prevention in MFIs.

Att främja miljömässigt hållbart beteende: Projektledares strategier i beteendeförändrande projekt2018Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Enhanced self-assessment of CPR by low-dose, high-frequency training2020In: International Journal of Emergency Services, ISSN 2047-0894, E-ISSN 2047-0908, Vol. 10, no 9, p. 93-100-Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose The purpose was to investigate what effect an intervention of low-dose, high-frequency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training with feedback for one month would have on professionals' subjective self-assessment skill of CPR. Design/methodology/approach This study had a quantitative approach. In total, 38 firefighters performed CPR for two minutes on a Resusci Anne QCPR. They then self-assessed their CPR through four multiple-choice questions regarding compression rate, depth, recoil and ventilation volume. After one month of low-dose, high-frequency training with visual feedback, the firefighters once more performed CPR and self-assessed their CPR. Findings With one month of low-dose, high-frequency training with visual feedback, the level of self-assessment was 87% (n = 33) correct self-assessment of compression rate, 95% (n = 36) correct self-assessment of compression depth, 68% (n = 26) correct self-assessment of recoil and 87% (n = 33) correct self-assessment of ventilations volume. The result shows a reduced number of firefighters who overestimate their ability to perform CPR. Originality/value With low-dose, high-frequency CPR training with visual feedback for a month, the firefighters develop a good ability to self-assess their CPR to be performed within the guidelines. By improving their ability to self-assess their CPR quality, firefighters can self-regulate their compression and ventilation quality.

Low-dose, high-frequency CPR training with feedback for firefighters2019In: International Journal of Emergency Services, ISSN 2047-0894, E-ISSN 2047-0908, Vol. 8, no 1, p. 64-72Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate the effects of the intervention of low-dose, high-frequency cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training with feedback for firefighters for one month. Design/methodology/approach: The study had a quantitative approach. Data were collected through an intervention by means of simulation. The data collection consisted of a pre- and post-assessment of 38 firefighter’s CPR performance. Findings: There was a statistically significant improvement from pre- to post-assessment regarding participants’ compression rates. Compression depth increased statistically significantly to average 2 mm too deep in the group. Recoil decreased in the group with an average of 1 mm for the better. There was a statistically significant improvement in participants’ ventilation volume from pre- to post-assessment. Originality/value: Prehospital staff such as firefighters, police, and ambulance perform CPR under less than optimal circumstances. It is therefore of the utmost importance that these professionals are trained in the best possible way. The result of this study shows that low-dose, high-frequency CPR training with an average of six training sessions per month improves ventilation volume, compression depth, rate, and recoil. This study concludes that objective feedback during training enhances the firefighters’ CPR skills which in turn also could be applied to police and ambulance CPR training.

Revisorers upplevelser av tidsstyrningens påverkan på arbetstillfredsställelsen2023Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Auditors are considered the most important resource of audit firms, yet many auditors have chosen to leave the auditing industry. One of the fundamental factors for auditors’ decision to leave audit firms is decreased job satisfaction. In the audit industry, time management, is the dominant form of control that primarily affects audit associates and senior auditors. However, time management has become increasingly tighter in recent years, leading to higher demands for completing the audit within significantly tighter time frames. Tighter time management leads to increased time pressure and stress, which can affect auditors’ job satisfaction, and their decision to leave the audit industry. To further understand how time management may influence auditors’ job satisfaction, self-determination theory was considered, emphasizing the importance of basic psychological needs such as competence, relatedness and autonomy. By considering self-determination theory, a more nuanced understanding was obtained of how time management affected auditors’ job satisfaction.

Previous studies have mainly focused on how dysfunctional behaviours develop due to tighter time management. However, there are limited studies on how time management impacts auditors’ job satisfaction, resulting in an identified knowledge gap. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to increase understanding of how audit associates and senior auditors in the audit industry perceive that time management affects their job satisfaction. To achieve this purpose, a qualitative method was applied. 15 interviews were conducted with audit associates and senior auditors working at one of the Big Four audit firms.

The results of the study show that auditors perceive the time management as something positive for their job satisfaction. The auditors experienced that time management provided clear goals, planning, structure, and opportunities for professional development, which increased job satisfaction. However, those auditors who did not experience job satisfaction referred to understaffing as a factor that resulted in increased workload and, consequently, lower job satisfaction. Therefore, the study can be said to contribute to a better understanding of how audit associates and senior auditors perceive the impact of time management on their job satisfaction.

    Abstract [en]

This study was aimed to find answers how the event industry is working with risk management and which secondary effects risk management generates. The study was also aimed to find answers whether the event managers think risk management is profitable. The reason we decided to study this subject is because the event industry is one of the largest growing markets. Event of different category attracts a lot of people and the risks increases when masses gather at the same spot. Theory and previous research shows that not every event project implements an appropriate risk management, even though risks are many and its consequences can be devastating.

We have done qualitative interviews with persons working with event projects to get a perception of how they work and their opinion of risk management. We have concluded that the studied event firms are working with risk management in every event projects but generally event managers use different risk management techniques. The study revealed that all the studied event firms focus on security during event projects implementation, rather than risk affecting the projects planning phase. Secondary effects of risk management are many and a recurrent effect is the awareness among project staff. All the informants are convinced that risk management always is profitable.

En jämförande studie mellan Canvas och Moodle: Att skapa kursinnehåll genom GUI och API2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

Tanken bakom agaförbudet i 6 kap. 5 a § BrB.

7 § BrB).

Existerar revisorers misslyckande?: En kvantitativ studie om kunskapsskillnader inom revisorsprofessionen2020Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Auditors are one of the groups causing the audit expectation gap since they sometimes fail to identify their areas of responsibility. Financial scandals have negatively affected the trust that the companies’ stakeholders have for audit reports. An increased trust can, among others, result in a more effective capital market, as a result from increased trust to the audit report.

Previous studies have examined whether or not audit education directed at the public has an effect on the audit expectation gap. Whether or not the work experience of auditors has an effect on the audit expectation gap have not been studied to a great extent. Following financial scandals, there have been shown to be a failure among auditors, since they are not fully aware of their areas of responsibility. The aim of the study is to examine whether or not work experience affect this failure, and thereby contribute to a relatively unexplored field, within the audit expectation gap.

A quantitative study was conducted using questionnaires to collect data. The result indicates that Swedish auditors are generally knowledgeable, but not fully aware of their areas of responsibility. However, the result shows no statistical evidence that indicates that failure of the auditor is affected by work experience.

Smarta glasögons användbarhet: Hur användarnas datorvana påverkar användbarheten av smarta glasögon2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Education and Economic Development: A Case Study of Ghana2023Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

Ever since Ghana gained independence, its policy makers have identified education as a tool to foster economic growth and development. In recognition of the vast potential for national development that education presents Ghana, various governments have invested considerably in the sector. These investments have been in the form of educational sector reforms, as well as yearly reoccurring expenditure. Despite these massive investments however, very little work has been done to empirically investigate the impact of such expenditure on the nation’s economy.

This paper uses data from Ghana to empirically assess the nature of the relationship between education expenditure (a proxy for human capital development) and GDP growth (a proxy for economic growth). The Granger Causality Test is applied to education expenditure and GDP growth data, from 2003 to 2018. Using data from this same time frame, separate Granger Causality tests are also implemented to test the relationship between Gross Enrollment Rates/ Total Completion Rates, at some levels of education, and GDP growth.

Interestingly enough, the analysis shows no Granger causal relationship between our main variables of interest (Total Education Expenditure and GDP growth). Results also show that none of the education variables Granger cause GDP growth, if the test uses 1 lag and also if the test uses 3 lags. Additionally, results show that whether the test uses 1 lag or 2 lags, GDP growth Granger causes the percentage of total government expenditure that is dedicated to education. Results for tests that use 2 lags also shows that the only education variable that Granger causes GDP growth is enrolment rate at the primary level, with GDP growth also not Granger causing any education variable apart from the percentage of government expenditure dedicated to education. In the case of the test using 3 lags, results show that GDP growth Granger causes only one education variable which is expenditure on the Senior High School level.

    Abstract [sv]

Why Should You Believe in Open Data? – A Document Study Examining PersuasionRhetoric of OGD Benefits2022In: EGOV 2022: Electronic Government / [ed] Marijn Janssen, Csaba Csáki, Ida Lindgren, Euripidis Loukis, Ulf Melin, Gabriela Viale Pereira, Manuel Pedro Rodríguez Bolívar, Efthimios Tambouris, Springer, 2022, p. 274-287Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The rhetoric of Open Government Data (OGD) concerningits benefits seems to lack anchor in practice affecting practitioners andempirical evidence restraining academia. This rhetoric could be hard tosee for those already persuaded. As such, the rhetoric could contain in-consistencies that are based more on myths than facts, contributing tothe slow pace of OGD development. OGD is sometimes based on dog-matic rhetoric that is overly simplistic, which hides significant benefitsand blocks potential audiences from seeing the practical applications ofOGD. The purpose of the present study was to analyse the persuasive-ness of present OGD arguments from a rhetorical perspective to identifyrhetorical patterns. We conducted desktop research, investigating therhetoric of eight websites emphasising OGD benefits. Our findings in-clude four common patterns of the rhetoric involving persuasion anddissuasion. The rhetoric contains paradoxes of promises and discover-ies, which we categorised as the grand quest, promised opportunities, tribal solidarity, and the silver bullet patterns. A further finding was twomythical paradoxes: (1) promises versus discovery and (2) proving whilearguing.

Rapport Digital Mognad – gemensamma resultat VälTel 2.02022Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

"With a Little Help from My Friends": Project Managers' Perceptions of Self-Leadership2022Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year)), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

This qualitative study is about project managers’ perceptions of self-leadership and its benefits and challenges for the project managers, the team, and the project result. The study has been implemented by conducting semi-structured interviews with ten project managers from diverse cultural backgrounds, ages, and work sectors with experience of self-leadership. The data obtained has been transcribed, coded, and analysed by using thematic analysis. The main themes that were found were the following: The management of emotions, the power of collective intelligence, alignment between work and life and the final theme of the resilient project manager. The first theme deals with the importance of being self-aware and authentic as a project manager and to focus on emotional intelligence rather than IQ and hard skills. The second theme’s focal point is on the importance of having feedback and support from the team, mentors, or co-workers in learning more about oneself as a project manager. The third theme deals with project managers’ having a balance between their work and their spare time by planning and being organized, with the purpose of not becoming overworked or lose out on valuable time with friends and family. The final theme handles the project manager’s focus on strengths and being persistent until the end of a project. The benefits of self-leadership, according to the respondents in this study, are easier to experience for the project manager him/herself in terms of self-development but benefits can also be seen for the whole team and indirectly for the project goal as with a well-functioning project manager and self-governing team, the project results will improve. One challenge of self-leadership can be to lead oneself with a long-term perspective as priorities and teams change in projects. Also, if a project manager does not have support, it can be difficult for him/her to keep the motivation to self-lead.The results in this study are in alignment with earlier studies such as for instance Neck, Manz & Houghton’s study from 2019.

    Abstract [en]

The background of our paper is that feedback is needed as a tool on during work to make the individuals feel comfortable. This is basically related to our need of feeling accepted and to feel affinity. Research has demonstrated that the confirmation from the outside world is an important part of the individual's selfimage. In a project based environment, feedback is important, as project groups often consist of new constellations of people who quickly must learn to work together. If feed-back could be used successfully, this can have positive effects on work perfor-mance. The problem of providing feedback is how to give it in a constructive way so the receiver to take in the information and accept it. By examining past research, we examined why there is a need for feedback in project teams, what the research says that the giver should consider when it comes to feedback, and what consequences and results of feedback could be. Our purpose is, based on existing research, to examine how feedback is used in practice for five project managers. We asked ourselves following questions: Do project managers provide feedback? In what ways? How do they work with feedback? Do they know how the theory looks about the topic? How do they work to become better at giving feedback? To examine the issues, we used a qualitative approach in the form of semi-structured interviews. The interview subjects were all working in the same indus-try, the real estate industry. Our interview data were processed by transcribing and coding by predetermined themes. In our analysis we compared the theoretical background of the empirical data we collected. A matrix with a compilation of the collected data is presented in appendix 2. Our conclusion is that project managers mostly work with positive feedback and that giving negative feedback is perceived problematic. We also discovered that the project managers lacked a theo-retical knowledge about the subject and that the skills they possessed, had they learned through experience.

Exploring the Medical Caregivers' Perceptions of Technology Acceptance for an Online Speech and Language Assessment Application Among Stroke Patients2023In: International Journal On Advances in Life Sciences, ISSN 1942-2660, E-ISSN 1942-2660, Vol. 15, no 1-2, p. 1-10Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Stroke is a globally increasing disease and speech and language deficiencies are common in stroke survivors. To facilitate medical caregivers in their professional work and to improve patients’ quality of life, technology can play an important role. However, the use and acceptance of technology are uncertain and more research is needed in this direction. This study evaluates the technology acceptance and adoption of an online speech and language assessment application. The evaluation-focused Design Science Research strategy was adopted for that purpose. Two physiotherapists, one occupational therapist and three speech therapists participated in the study. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was used as the theoretical base for interview questions formation and data analysis. The study findings show that the suggested application is useful and easy to use; however, it should be better synchronised with speech therapists’ daily work routines. The speech therapists stressed that the functionalities of the application should be designed in close collaboration with them, and it should be compatible with the already existing systems and services in place. Due to impairments after stroke, the patients have some specific preferences for software and hardware; such as a tablet with a touch pen is the preferred hardware. Additionally, the interface should have bigger text fonts and pictures, and highly contrastive colours in the graphics should be used for patients’ convenience. The user’s privacy and security, the patient’s current health, and their previous knowledge and experience with technology were also found important determinants for the intention to use the given technology.

Nexus Between Psychological Safety and Non-Technical Debt in Large-Scale Agile Enterprise Resource Planning Systems Development2024In: Software, System, and Service Engineering / [ed] Aleksander Jarzębowicz, Ivan Luković, Adam Przybyłek, Mirosław Staroń, Muhammad Ovais Ahmad, Mirosław Ochodek, Springer, 2024, p. 63-81Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Psychological safety, a pivotal factor in team dynamics, has been proposed as a crucial determinant of success in agile software development (ASD) teams and learning. However, the extent of its influence within the domain of large-scale agile (LSA) software development teams remains underexplored. This research investigates the multifaceted dimensions of psychological safety within LSA teams, examining both its precursors and outcomes. This study conducted semi-structured interviews with software professionals actively involved in LSA projects within a Swedish software consultancy company. The findings underscore the intricate nature of establishing a psychologically safe environment within LSA teams, revealing it as a multidimensional construct necessitating a proactive leadership approach, fostering open communication, and cultivating an ecosystem of constructive feedback. The study highlights the critical importance of intentionally shaping teams to facilitate continuous learning, ensuring remuneration safety, and implementing a comprehensive onboarding process for incoming team members. By fostering psychologically safe settings, LSA teams enhanced teamwork dynamics, heightened job satisfaction, and facilitation continuous learning and development. Notably, the absence of such an environment exacerbates the phenomenon of brain drain, exposing the tangible consequences of overlooking this fundamental aspect of organizational culture. This study proposes avenues for future research directions, aiming to further unravel the nuances of psychological safety and its cascading effects within the realm of contemporary LSA software development context.

The Pandora's box of social, process, and people debts in software engineering2024In: Journal of Software: Evolution and Process, ISSN 2047-7473, E-ISSN 2047-7481, Vol. 36, no 2, article id e2516Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

In software engineering, technical debt (TD) has been widely investigated, but debt regarding social issues, people, and processes has not been explored as much. It should be noted here that we use nontechnical debt (NTD) as an umbrella term to cover social, process, and people debts. Although the number of studies on NTD in software is increasing, the majority of them are descriptive rather than rigorous, and there is no systematic development of cumulative knowledge. As a result, identifying the fundamental causes of NTD and the associated mitigation techniques in software engineering is challenging. Therefore, this study investigates the scientific evidence regarding NTD till date by conducting a systematic mapping review of software engineering research between January 2000 and October 2021. The search strategy resulted in 175 studies, 17 of which were identified as unique and relevant primary papers. The primary studies show that NTD and TD are inextricably linked. In addition, this study also captured a plethora of causes and mitigation strategies for managing NTD and thus makes four important contributions: (i) highlighting state-of-the-art NTD research; (ii) identification of the reported causes and mitigation strategies in the primary papers; and (iii) determination of opportunities for future NTD research.

Customised Roles in Scrum Teams for the Development of Secure Solution2023In: 2023 49th Euromicro Conference on Software Engineering and Advanced Applications (SEAA), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2023, p. 362-369Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This research paper examines the implementation and impact of customised roles in large-scale agile software development teams, specifically within the Scrum framework. This is a single case study based on 15 practitioners’ interviews from a Swedish software company to review the dynamics of role customisation. The two customised roles of Product Guardians and Security Masters are crucial for addressing complex secure software development, maintaining product quality and security, and fostering team self-organisation. The study also uncovers challenges associated with role customisation, such as the potential overburdening of individuals and disruption of self-organisation. The findings contribute to the discourse on agile methods' adaptability and provide practical insights for organisations considering similar role customisations. Furthermore, the research opens the door for future exploration of organization-wide roles that promote self-organisation.

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Service-dominant (S-D) logic has been recognized as a theoretical foundation for developing a science of service. As the field of service science advances the understanding of value cocreation in service systems, S-D logic continues to evolve as well. Recent updates and consolidation of the foundational premises establish five core axioms of S-D logic and outline a pathway for understanding the role of institutions in value cocreation in general, and innovation in particular. This chapter overviews the evolution of S-D logic and its service ecosystems view, which can contribute to the furthering the development of service science and advancing the study of innovation in service systems. Future research directions are proposed.

Medborgares inställning till vård vianätet: En studie om upplevelser av digital vård2021Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

166 svar samlades in.

Kommunikation genom finansiella rapporter vid krishantering2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [en]

In the theory of legitimacy the concept legitimacy is explained as a resource that a company can depend on for its survival and something that a company strives to be allocated by the society. A company's legitimacy can be affected by strategically designing annual reports or other publicly available documents.

The purpose of this study is to describe how banks that have been in a crisis have handled their communication through financial reports to affect the legitimacy and why they have chosen to act in the way that they have done. The study is based on the theory of legitimacy and legitimacy strategies that can be used to restore legitimacy in a crisis and how a legitimacy gap can emerge if the society's expectations and values are not being followed. As a complement to the theory of legitimacy, the stakeholder theory is also taken into account to describe how the company can act in relation to its stakeholders and not only its investors.

The study is based on a qualitative research approach where a qualitative content analysis was carried out with empirical data in the form of inductive coding of secondary data of two large Swedish banks which were chosen by non random sampling. The empirical data is an inductive coding from six annual and sustainability reports of two large banks in Sweden that have been in crisis when there is a deficiency in their work against preventing money laundering where they are being discovered by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority. The results from the coding of the reports are then analyzed to find out which strategies the banks used in a crisis and why they communicated in the way that they did.

After a bank has experienced a crisis, it is important for the bank to regain its legitimacy in order to create trust to its customers and stakeholders. The banks have in different times used similar legitimacy strategies for similar crises, but there are situations where companies use different strategies in their annual and sustainability reports. The banks strive to follow the society's expectations and create trust, and therefore they describe what measures have been taken to handle the situation and what its approach has been.

Statuskod 451 ur ett IT-organisationsperspektiv: En explorative kvalitativ studie2019Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Krishantering inom flygbranschen: En studie om svenska flygbolag under Covid-19-pandemin2021Student paper second term, 5 credits / 7,5 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract

Kvarstående digitala tillgänglighetsproblem: En studie av tillgänglighetsredogörelserna på samtliga kommuners webbplatser2022Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor), 10 credits / 15 HE creditsStudent thesis
    Abstract [sv]

Using PAPAYA for eHealth – Use Case Analysis and Requirements2020In: 2020 IEEE 33rd International Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems (CBMS), IEEE, 2020, p. 437-442Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

This paper presents an eHealth use case basedon a privacy-preserving machine learning platform to detectarrhythmia developed by the PAPAYA project that can run inan untrusted domain. It discusses legal privacy and user requirementsthat we elicited for this use case from the GDPR andvia stakeholder interviews. These include requirements for securepseudonymisation schemes, for allowing also pseudonymous usersto exercise their data subjects rights, for not making diagnosticdecisions fully automatically and for assurance guarantees, conformancewith specified standards and informing clinicians andpatients about the privacy protection. The requirements are notonly relevant for our use case but also for other use cases utilisingprivacy-preserving data analytics to classify medical data.

Transparency of Privacy Risks Using PIA Visualizations2023In: HCI for Cybersecurity, Privacy and Trust: 5th International Conference, HCI-CPT 2023, Held as Part of the 25th HCI International Conference, HCII 2023, Copenhagen, Denmark, July 23–28, 2023, Proceedings / [ed] Moallem Abbas, Cham: Springer, 2023, p. 3-17Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Privacy enhancing technologies allow the minimization of risks to online data. However, the transparency of the minimization process is not so clear to all types of end users. Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) is a standardized tool that identifies and assesses privacy risks associated with the use of a system. In this work, we used the results of the PIA conducted in our use case to visualize privacy risks to end users in the form of User Interface (UI) mock ups. We tested and evaluated the UI mock-ups via walkthroughs to investigate users' interests by observing their clicking behavior, followed by four focus group workshops. There were 13 participants (two expert groups and two lay user groups) in total. Results reveal general interests in the transparency provided by showing the risks reductions. Generally, although participants appreciate the concept of having detailed information provided about risk reductions and the type of risks, the visualization and usability of the PIA UIs require future development. Specifically, it should be tailored to the target group's mental models and background knowledge.

Wearable devices and measurement data: An empirical study on ehealth and data sharing2020In: Proceedings - IEEE Symposium on Computer-Based Medical Systems, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2020, p. 443-448Conference paper (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

The development of medical applications and services is growing but is hampered by security and privacy concerns and a lack of trust by users. This interview study with 29 users of wearable devices reports perspectives on privacy concerns towards sharing of measured data in general, and measured stress data in the workplace. Participants consider stress data to be sensitive (73%), and report that privacy protection is a requirement for both the technology and the workplace. Sharing behavior is shown to be strongly coupled with clear purposes and incentives. Sharing measured fitness data is accepted (72%), and sharing stress measured data for the common good (48%), despite privacy concerns. Over half mistrust the technology not to leak data. Technology solutions should provide clear and sound purposes for storing, sharing, and processing measured data, as well as provide assurances from workplace and cloud.

Machine Learning–Based Analysis of Encrypted Medical Data in the Cloud: Qualitative Study of Expert Stakeholders’ Perspectives2021In: JMIR Human Factors, E-ISSN 2292-9495, Vol. 8, no 3, p. 1-15, article id e21810Article in journal (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

Background:Third-party cloud-based data analysis applications are proliferating in electronic health (eHealth) because of the expertise offered and their monetary advantage. However, privacy and security are critical concerns when handling sensitive medical data in the cloud. Technical advances based on “crypto magic” in privacy-preserving machine learning (ML) enable data analysis in encrypted form for maintaining confidentiality. Such privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) could be counterintuitive to relevant stakeholders in eHealth, which could in turn hinder adoption; thus, more attention is needed on human factors for establishing trust and transparency.

Objective:The aim of this study was to analyze eHealth expert stakeholders’ perspectives and the perceived tradeoffs in regard to data analysis on encrypted medical data in the cloud, and to derive user requirements for development of a privacy-preserving data analysis tool.

Methods:We used semistructured interviews and report on 14 interviews with individuals having medical, technical, or research expertise in eHealth. We used thematic analysis for analyzing interview data. In addition, we conducted a workshop for eliciting requirements.

Results:Our results show differences in the understanding of and in trusting the technology; caution is advised by technical experts, whereas patient safety assurances are required by medical experts. Themes were identified with general perspectives on data privacy and practices (eg, acceptance of using external services), as well as themes highlighting specific perspectives (eg, data protection drawbacks and concerns of the data analysis on encrypted data). The latter themes result in requiring assurances and conformance testing for trusting tools such as the proposed ML-based tool. Communicating privacy, and utility benefits and tradeoffs with stakeholders is essential for trust. Furthermore, stakeholders and their organizations share accountability of patient data. Finally, stakeholders stressed the importance of informing patients about the privacy of their data.

Conclusions:Understanding the benefits and risks of using eHealth PETs is crucial, and collaboration among diverse stakeholders is essential. Assurances of the tool’s privacy, accuracy, and patient safety should be in place for establishing trust of ML-based PETs, especially if used in the cloud.
