Preventing oscillation in I-BGP with route reflectors

Abstract [en]

In this paper we present a modification to the Internal Border Gateway Protocol that stops Multi Exit Discriminator induced oscillation if it is caused within an Autonomous System. The way the algorithm works is that routes are never removed implicitly. Thereby all routers will have enough information to prevent oscillation. This algorithm does not need any extra messages compared to the standard Internal Border Gateway Protocol algorithm and will in most cases be dormant and not use any extra memory until it is needed.
