Abstract [en]

By using a tunable laser diode and fiber components small compact ranging and radial velocity measuring systems can be realized utilizing a frequency modulating continuous wave (FMCW) technique. The thesis start with an introduction that explains some basic theory behind laser diodes, photodiodes and different optical measuring techniques. Three papers titled "Dividing Optical Power for Maximum Signal-to-Noise Ratio in a Self Mixing FMCW System", "Advantages of a new modulation scheme in an optical self-mixing FMCW system" and "Single stage photodiode OP-amp solution suited for a self mixing FMCW system", are included.
