They stab those who help them : Swedish men's beliefs about unaccompanied boys (English)
The aim of this study was to examine and describe Swedish men's beliefs about unaccompanied boys. We used a qualitative approach in form of semi-structured interviews to obtain representative results. Eight Swedish men were interviewed in this study. In the interviews the Swedish men were asked to place a number of words linked to unaccompanied boys, for example dangerous or kindhearted. The words were placed by the men on a picture with three stick figures in the middle which would represent unaccompanied boys, then three circles around. We could find a variation in the men's beliefs about unaccompanied boys. Even if we could find a variation, the result of our study shows that the majority of the interviewed Swedish men had negative beliefs about unaccompanied boys. One belief was for example that unaccompanied boys are violent and kill people.
