Chemicals are used in most activities today. It is important that the chemicals are managed in a safe way to avoid harm to human health and the environment. The purpose of this report is to study which shortcomings that occur in chemical management in municipal and private activities in Sweden. The report also includes collection and discussion of possible solutions to avoid these shortcomings. The data were collected through interviews and through a web survey. The results show that the shortcomings that were most common in a specific municipality were a lack of routines to replace chemicals with options that are more environmentally friendly, not studying the safety data sheets and finally, lack of safety data sheets. In the other Swedish municipalities combined, the most common shortcomings were that the list of chemicals was not complete, chemicals were stored near a floor drain without an embankment and that there was a lack of routines to replace chemicals with options that are more environmentally friendly. Possible solutions to avoid these shortcomings are for example more information to the activities and more frequent and regular inspections.
