Abstract [en]

This thesis explores the possibility of using a rating system for the EdQu system where students are asked questions and responses are recorded and scored. The Glicko rating system developed by Glickman is modified to fit the EdQu system, and the goal of this modified rating system is to estimate student achievement level so that students get matched with appropriate questions in terms of difficulty. Applying the modified rating system requires model fitting to find system constants, and this is done by formulating an optimization problem to minimize the predictive discrepancy between predicted score and actual score. The resulting values of the system constants from the optimization problem show that the pro-posed modified rating system does not work in practice and that some adjustments must be made for it to work in EdQu’s system.

Detta examensarbete utforskar möjligheten att använda ett ratingsystem i EdQus system där elever svarar på frågor och svaren blir graderade. Ratingsystemet Glicko, skapat av Glickman, har modifierats för att passa EdQus system. Målet med det modifierade rating-systemet är att estimera elevers kunskap så att eleverna matchas med lämpliga frågor i termer av svårighetsgrad på frågor. Parametrar som används av det modifierade rating-systemet måste estimeras, och detta görs genom att ställa upp ett optimeringsproblem för att minimera den prediktiva diskrepansen mellan den predicerade poängen och den faktiska poängen. De resulterande värdena för systemets parametrar tyder på att det föreslagna modifierade rating-systemet inte fungerar i praktiken och att ytterligare förändringar måste göras för att det ska fungera i EdQus system.
