Abstract [en]

This thesis is a qualitative textual analysis of textbooks used in the teaching of history at the secondary level. The purpose of this paper is to investigate how different socio-economic groups are represented and constructed, and if this changes over time. The study holds parts of the social constructivist theory and the use of history. The method used in this thesis is the discourse analysis. The analytical instrument that this study has used is the Statistiska centralbyråns definition of socio-economic groups, which have been analysed according to Pierre Bourdieu's economic, social, cultural and symbolic capital. The results showed that there are various constructions made of the different socio-economic groups in the textbooks and that this constructions changes over time can be discerned. The discussion shows that this study’s results is consistent with previous research in the same area.

Abstract [sv]

Detta examensarbete är en kvalitativ textanalys av läroböcker som används i undervisningen i historia på gymnasial nivå. Syftet med uppsatsen är att utreda hur olika socioekonomiska grupper representeras och konstrueras, samt om detta förändrats över tid. Studien innehar delar av den socialkonstruktivistiska teorin samt historiebruk, och den metod som nyttjas är diskursanalys. De analysinstrument som denna studie har använt sig av är Statistiska centralbyråns definition av socioekonomiska grupper, vilka har analyserats utifrån Pierre Bourdieus ekonomiska, sociala, kulturella samt symboliska kapital. Resultat påvisade att det förekommer olika konstruktioner av de olika socioekonomiska grupperna i läroböckerna samt att en förändring över tid kan urskiljas. I diskussionen framkommer denna studies resultat som samstämmigt med tidigare forskning.
