Developmental leadership as a buffer against stress : A quantitative study on the relation between stress amongst psychologists, their work engagement and the developmental leadership of the manager.  (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine work engagement amongst psychologists and their perceived developmental leadership of the manager in relation to the psychologists perceived stress. Furthermore, the study examined which of the variables that had the most influence on the outcome of stress. A survey was conducted on 75 psychologists from various work places. The questionnaire consisted of PSS-14, UWES-9 and parts of DLQ. The results showed a significant negative correlation between developmental leadership and stress, and also between work engagement and stress. There was no significant correlation between developmental leadership and work engagement. The results also showed that developmental leadership was a significant predictor to stress. In summary, developmental leadership seems to have the greatest impact on stress amongst psychologists. The study is the first in its kind to examine these variables on psychologists, highlighting the importance of further research within the field.
