Abstract [sv]

Bakgrund: Demenssjukdomar drabbar hjärnans kognitiva funktion på primär eller sekundär nivå. Att drabbas av demenssjukdom innan 65 års ålder är mycket ovanligt. Att vara anhörig till en person med tidigt debuterande demenssjukdom kan leda till fysisk, psykisk och finansiell påverkan.

Syfte: Att belysa anhörigas upplevelse av att ha en närstående som diagnosticerats med tidigt debuterande demenssjukdom.

Metod: Fribergs analysmodell i fem steg har använts för att granska åtta artiklar med kvalitativ design samt analysera och sammanställa deras resultat.

Resultat: De underkategorier som framkom har delats in i 4 huvudkategorier som beskriver anhörigas upplevelse av att ha en närstående som diagnostiserats med tidigt debuterande demenssjukdom; Den känslomässiga anstormningen, Social påverkan, Förändringar i familjelivet och Stöd och brist på stöd.

Konklusion: Att vårda en närstående med tidigt debuterande demenssjukdom kan vara mycket påfrestande. Det finns ett stort behov av mer stöd till anhöriga och bättre information inom ämnet. Sjuksköterskan har en viktig roll i tillhandahållandet av rätt information och stöd.

Abstract

Background: Dementia is a syndrome which affects the cognitive functions of the brain either on a primary or secondary level. Dementia is very rare before 65 years of age. The family of the person with early onset dementia might be affected by physical, psychological and financial strain.

Aim: Illuminating families’ experiences of having a loved one who has been diagnosed with early onset dementia.

Method: Friberg’s analysis model in five steps has been used to examine eight articles with a qualitative design, analyze them and compile them.

Results: The resulting subcategories have been divided into 4 main categories which describe the family members’ experiences of having a loved one who has been diagnosed with early onset dementia; The storm of emotions, Social influence, Changes in family life and Support and the lack of support.

Conclusion: Caring for a loved one with early onset dementia can be very taxing. There is a great need of more support to family members and better information on the subject. The nurse plays an important part in delivering the right information and support.
