The aim of this study was to find out how Umea soccer festival can reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases. One part of the study was a survey about how the soccer teams and the visitors travel to the festival. Another part was an investigation about in which degree less of meat in the meals served during the festival could affect the carbon emissions. To get data about air quality in Umea during the festival Umea County was contacted. The most common mode of transport to and then within the festival was by car. An inquiry showed that the participants of the festival would have preferred a better bus service. Such a change to less car driving would decrease the emissions. If meat, especially red meat, is exchanged to Quorn, the carbon emissions caused by the food served at the festival can become reduced with more than a half. Data about air quality in Umea showed no strong increase during the festival days, probably due to that during the summer period weather conditions have more impact on concentrations of air pollutions than degree of traffic. The conclusion is that the festival can reduce their carbon footprint if present transport by many cars become exchanged to transport by a few buses. Furthermore vegetarian alternatives to meat included in the meals served will have a large decrease of greenhouse gases.
