Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: There are studies and knowledge of that all patients have a right to good and personalized information. Healthcare professionals also know that the patient is feeling better by the experience to be a part in their own care that they are going through. Investigations have been made regarding how the patient wants it to be. According to the National Board of Health (2013), the healthcare cover all regardless of age or diagnosis.

The objective: The objective of the study is to examine how patients with non-curable cancer experience participation and information during their disease.

Method: Life-world theory is a fundamental part of health sciences. Twelve interviews were conducted and analyzed by a phenomenological analysis of meaning.

Results: Patients' expectations to get help and information when they seek out medical care is not always met. There are deficiencies in the way physicians provide information on a difficult cancer diagnosis. The lack of information creates insecurity and makes it difficult to be involved

Conclusion: In the present study patients expects to get help as soon as they seek out medical care. The resistance patient encounter leads to a mistrust of health care. Alone receive information about a non-curabel cancer diagnosis is difficult.
