Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to examine socialworkers reflections around their own cultural belonging in relation to childcare investigations involving families with a different cultural background. The study was based on semi-structured interviews with five socialworkers and was conducted in order to explore their reasoning surrounding their work as investigators within social services, from the perspective of both the workers and their clients cultural identity. My sources were of different age and different level of experience. The data from the interviews has been interpreted with the help of previous research and theories about cultural belonging and the meeting of cultures aswell as ideas relevant to the study. My sources expressed awareness of their own cultural belonging and the influence this has in their work. Most of them expressed feeling frustration over the limitations and difficulties in communicating with families with a different cultural background. My informants thoughts and reflections on the subject indicate that socialwork concerning children and families with a different cultural background need an added emphasis on cultural sensitivity.
