Physics in preschool : An interview study of teachers' views on physics and physics in preschool (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study was to examine teachers’ views on physics in general and physics in pre- school in particular. The study is based on qualitative, semi-structured interviews with working pre- school teachers and child-carers in two different municipalities. This method was chosen in order to give the educators an opportunity to exemplify from their own experiences and thoughts regarding physics. The result show that only a small group of the teachers had been offered or received any further training in physics. They therefore considered themselves lacking inspiration regarding how they can work with this in pre-school, moreover they meant that simple activities could be of great importance. The results revealed that knowledge is not the key issue for performing meaningful ac- tivities with the children. Instead it is more about being co-scientists in the children’s learning, and to explore things together with them. Furthermore, the results show that pre-school physics to a lar- ge extent involves various experiments. The children’s spontaneous questions was also regarded as an important part of their exploration of the subject.

Syftet med studien är att undersöka pedagogers syn på fysik och fysik i förskolan. Genomförandet bygger på kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med verksamma förskollärare och barnskötare i två mindre kommuner i Mellansverige. Metoden valdes för att ge pedagogerna möjlighet att kunna berätta utifrån sina egna erfarenheter om sina tankar kring fysik.

Resultatet visar att endast en liten del av pedagogerna hade fått gått eller någon gång blivit erbjuden fortbildning inom fysik. De ansåg sig därför sakna inspiration kring hur de kan jobba med ämnet i förskolan och menade att enkla aktiviteter kunde vara av stor vikt. Det framkom att kunskap inte är det viktigaste för att kunna genomföra meningsfulla aktiviteter med barnen. Det handlade istället om att vara medforskare i barnens lärande och ta reda på saker tillsammans med dem. Resultatet visade även att fysik i förskolan till stor del handlade om experiment. Barnens spontana frågor var även något som ansågs spela stor roll i deras utforskande av ämnet.
