Abstract [en]

The aim of this study was to investigate who utilizes outdoor-gyms, set up by Stockholm city, from a gender, age, socioeconomic and ethnic perspective. Further, the purpose was to study the respondents’ current activity level, motivation and if they had previous experience of sports and/or physical exercise. The study was conducted in collaboration with The Stockholm Sports Administration Office, which is one of the operators who aim to create conditions for a good health on equal terms for the entire population of Stockholm. The study included 147 participants, consisting of 98 males and 49 females. The method used was a survey consisting of a questionnaire designed for this particular study, with both multiple choice and open questions. The results indicate that men are more active users of outdoor-gyms than women. People with different ethnic background than Swedish were less represented on the outdoor-gyms in the study. These results point to the importance of further development of outdoor-gyms in order to reach broader groups in society and increase their activity level.
