Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to contribute to an increased knowledge of how newly arrivedstudents are introduced into the Swedish primary school, and to understand how previousexperiences for these students may affect them in their schooling. Trauma research shows thatit is important that students finds security in their current situation in order to processexperiences in their past. In order to answer the purpose of this study a qualitative study usingsemi-structured interviews was conducted. The study was focused on teachers in preparatoryclasses as we believe play a big part in the lives of newly arrived students. The result showshow our respondents work in these preparatory classes as well as their own reflections aroundthe newly arrived students. The result is linked to theories SOC (Sense of Coherence) andStigma. In the analyses of the results the stressors are presented that can affect the newlyarrived students in school. In the discussion of the study we reasoned about our own thoughtson the relationship between science and empiricism. The conclusion of the study givesproposals on how the study can be further developed with the help of further research on thesubject.
