Abstract [sv]

Syftet med denna studie är att ta reda på hur kvinnor konsturerar genus, kropp och identitet i ett gymkulturellt sammanhang, 8 kvinnor mellan 18-30 år har intervjuats. Kvinnorna tränar 3-5 dagar i veckan.

De teorier som används i studien behandlar hur kroppen används som en identitetsmarkör samt hur den kvinnliga kroppen kan ses ur ett genusperspektiv.

Slutsatserna som kan dras utifrån denna studie är att det finns ett kroppsligt missnöje hos kvinnorna som deltog. En traditionell samhällssyn på kroppen finns fortfarande kvar undermedvetet hos kvinnorna. Samt att kvinnorna använder sig av träning för att skapa- och uttrycka identitet och genus.

Abstract [en]

The thesis aims at exploring how women construct gender, body and identity in a gym cultural context. To implement this purpose, a qualitative method was used and eight women have been interviewed. The women in the study were between 18-30 years old and exercise at the gym between 3-5 days a week.

The theories used in this study deals with how the body is used as an identity markers and how the female body is perceived and understood from a gender perspective.

The study reaches the conclusions that there are bodily dissatisfaction among the participating women and that traditional representations of femininity still subconsciously remains with the women. Another conclusion is that the women use their workout at the gym to express identity and gender.
