Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This study aims to examine if the members of Couchsurfing consider themselves exposed to a higher risk when using Couchsurfing. Furthermore, the study examine how the members perform their risk evaluation of the situation and of other members on the website. The theoretical framework is based on risk and trust, as well as previous research of the phenomena. Interviews with active couchsurfers has been executed to provide useful material to the study. The results show that references are of great importance for creating a safe environment on Couchsurfing. The members use references to express themselves positively, neutrally or negatively about the members they have previously been in contact with. Furthermore, the study show the importance of a strong faith towards the members of the community, which is built on common interests and values. A module was created to demonstrate different couchsurfers risk evaluations.
