Differences in music listening : A qualitative study of young people's listening mode (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to explore high school students' experiences of listening to music. The background chapter presents previous research works and literature on theories and categorization of different kinds of listening mode. Qualitative interviews are used as researched method. Five students from senior level of the nine-year school have listened to three selected music examples.  After that they were interviewed about their experiences of the music. The interviews were then transcribed, processed and analyzed. In the result chapter I have compiled each informant's experiences and listening mode separately, in order to get a complete picture of each individual's listening mode. Each performance theme thus corresponds to one informant: "Johanna" - an associative and physical listening, "Klara" - a syntactically listening with objective character, Oskar - a variable, emotional listening, "Malin" - an associative semantic listening, "Stefan" - an emotion-operated and associative listening. The discussion chapter compares the results of the study of the theories and previous research presented in the background section. Finally, discussions are underway about the importance of work and continued research in the area
