Abstract [en]

Cognitive radio is expected to address several operational challenges like dynamic spectrum access, spectral heterogeneity and facilitate end-to-end Quality of Service (QOS). The complex nature of cognitive radio is due to its dependency on various network parameters at different levels and ambiguous standards. It is a challenge to address the issues related to effective management of cognitive radio. Issues related to mobility management such as signaling overhead need to be addressed for effectual operation of cognitive radio networks. Signaling enables devices to exchange control information over control channel and helps facilitate data communication. Modern telecommunication-data networks have seen a tremendous increase in signaling and the trend is expected to continue through to the networks of the future. Recent network outrages due to excessive signaling overhead have emphasized the need to develop effective mechanisms to handle signaling overhead. Cognitive radio networks are expected to have high signaling overhead considering their complex cognition cycle. This thesis we investigate the amount of signaling generated during a period due to mobility of nodes on the cognitive radio network using a centralized support node, additionally solutions are proposed for effective management of control signaling overhead.

Kognitiv radio väntas ta flera operativa utmaningar som dynamisk spektrumtillgång, spektral heterogenitet och underlätta end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS). Den komplicerade kognitiv radio beror på dess beroende av olika nätverksparametrar på olika nivåer och tvetydiga normer. Det är en utmaning att ta itu med frågor som rör effektiv hantering av kognitiv radio. Frågor som rör mobility management som signalering overhead måste åtgärdas för verkningsfull drift av kognitiva radionät. Signalering kan enheter att utbyta styrinformation via styrkanal och hjälper underlätta datakommunikation. Moderna telekommunikation datanätverk har sett en enorm ökning av signalering och trenden väntas fortsätta fram till näten i framtiden. Nyligen nätverk upprör på grund av alltför signalering ovanför har betonat behovet av att utveckla effektiva mekanismer för att hantera signalering overhead. Kognitiva radionät förväntas ha hög signalering ovanför tanke på deras komplexa kognition cykel. Denna avhandling undersöker vi hur mycket signalering genereras under en period på grund av rörlighet noder i kognitiv radio nätverket med en centraliserad stödnod, är dessutom lösningar föreslås för effektiv hantering av styrsignalering overhead.
