Safe sex : A questionnaire survey of responsibilities regarding contraception among adolescents (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Objective: The aim of this study was to examine how adolescents look upon accountability regarding contraception in a fixed relationship.

Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional study was undertaken to investigate gender differences in responsibility among adolescents over 18 years old at secondary school. 102 questionnaires were distributed with equal distribution between the sexes. The survey consisted of an open question and five closed questions with opportunity to comment. Chi-square test was used to examine the significance (p<0.05) between the gender.

Results: There was no significance between young women and men regarding responsibility. However, a gender difference was seen in terms of knowledge of the various contraceptive, where to get information about contraception and why contraceptive is used. The result also shows that there was a knowledge gap regarding contraception.

Conclusions: No gender difference was seen when it comes to responsibility regarding contraception in a fixed relationship. However, we could clearly see that women tend to contact a midwife for questions about contraception while men search for information on the Internet. This shows that midwifery clinics should be better at asking potential partners when the woman calling for contraceptive advice. This may prevent sexual and reproductive illness in both women and men.
