Development of a modular destination sign (English)
Abstract [sv]

Produktframtagningen av en moduluppbyggd destinationsskylt för bussar utfördes på Högskolan i Skövde i samarbete med företaget Mobitec AB som bland annat säljer de skyltar som används i stadsbussarna i London. Den destinationsskylt som togs fram var tänkt att fungera som ersättare för de tryckta dukskyltar som var befintliga i Londons stadsbussar och var därför tvungen att leva upp till deras krav på upplösning och läsbarhet. Detta skulle åstadkommas genom att bygga upp skylten med ett modulärt system av Super Fine Pitch LED Matriskort.

 

Modulsystemet behövde klara viss påfrestning från vibrationer från bussen och tillåta enskilda moduler att lätt monteras och demonteras. För att ta fram ett fungerande system användes riktlinjer för DFA och DFD och användarbehov från montörer och reparatörer undersöktes. Under idégenereringen användes Set-based concurrent engineering för att inte felaktigt vidareutveckla ej fungerande koncept på bekostnad av eliminering av fungerande koncept.

 

Tre resterande, likvärdiga koncept modellerades och testades för vibrationssimulationer i Creo Parametric 2.0. Vibrationerna testades även på 3D-utskrivna modeller från CAD-filer. Resultaten visade på att alla lösningarna klarade av påfrestningarna. Det slutgiltiga konceptvalet gjordes med matriser och användartester.

Abstract [en]

A modular destination sign for buses was developed. The work was performed at the University of Skövde in cooperation with the company Mobitec AB that for instance sells the signs that was currently used in the city buses in London. The sign that was developed was meant to serve as a replacement for the signs with printed blinds that were existing in the London city buses. The sign therefore had to live up to the demands on the resolution and readability. This would be achieved by building up the sign with a modular system of Superfine Pitch LED Matrix Card.

 

The modular system needed to sustain vibrations from the bus and allow individual modules to be easily assembled and disassembled. To develop a functioning system guidelines for DFA and DFD was used, and user needs from installers and repairers were investigated. During the concept generation set-based concurrent engineering was used to avoid further development of non-functioning concept at the expense of elimination of good concepts.

 

Three remaining, equivalent concepts were modeled and tested for vibration by doing simulations in Creo Parametric 2.0. The vibrations were also tested on 3D-printed models from CAD files. The results showed that all the solutions managed the vibrations. The final concept selection was made by matrices and by usability testing.
