Studentterapeuters definition, identifikation och användande av motöverföring

Abstract [en]

Within psychodynamic therapy the concept of countertransference is considered as valuable to understand the therapy process. Much of the research has focused on countertransference as dependent to therapy outcome (Hayes, Gelso & Hummel, 2011) and less of the research has been dedicated to trainees view on the concept. The object off this study was to examine how trainees define, identify and use countertransference. The study takes a qualitative approach and phenomenological perception of knowledge. Eight trainees has been interviewed and the interviews has been analysed with thematic analysis. Results showed that trainees defined countertransference mostly as an intersubjective phenomena. Participants identified countertransference through observing how the client and the therapist influenced each other. The use of countertransference seemed to happen trough a deeper insight of the therapy process. Interestingly the trainees repressed their anger against the client. The repression is understood as a defense against inner conflicts regarding handling aggression.

Abstract [sv]

Inom PDT (Psykodynamisk psykoterapi) anses motöverföring vara ett värdefullt begrepp för att förstå terapiprocessen. Mycket av forskningen har fokuserat kring motöverföringes betydelse för terapiresultat (Hayes, Gelso & Hummel, 2011) och mindre forskning har tillägnats studentterapeuters syn på begreppet. Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur studentterapeuter definierar, identifierar och använder begreppet motöverföring. Studien har en kvalitativ ansats och fenomenologisk kunskapssyn. Åtta studentterapeuter har intervjuats och intervjuerna har analyserats med tematisk analys. Resultatet visade att studentterapeuterna definierade motöverföring främst som ett intersubjektivt fenomen. Deltagarna identifierade motöverföring genom att betrakta hur klienten och terapeuten påverkade varandra. Användning av motöverföring verkade ske genom att motöverföringen berikade studentterapeuternas förståelse av terapiprocessen. Intressant var även att studentterapeuterna hämmade sin ilska gentemot klienten. Hämningen förstås som ett försvar mot en inre konflikt gällande hantering av aggression.
