The Footprints of a Gigantic Hound : A Comparative Analysis of the Novel The Hound of the Baskervilles by Arthur Conan Doyle and the Adaptation ”The Hounds of Baskerville” in the BBC's TV series Sherlock (English)
Abstract [sv]

I den här uppsatsen görs en komparativ analys av Arthur Conan Doyles roman The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902) och adaptionen ”The Hounds of Baskerville” (2012) i BBC:s TV-serie Sherlock (2010-).

Abstract [en]

This essay presents a comparative analysis of the novel The Hound of the Baskervilles (1902) by Arthur Conan Doyle and the adaptation ”The Hounds of Baskerville” (2012) in the BBC's TV series Sherlock (2010-). The intention with the analysis is to respond to the question at issue: What courses of action have been used in the portrayal of the story and the characters in the novel and in the adaptation?

The analysis concerns the similarities and differences in partly the story and context of the creations, and partly the personalities of the main characters and their relation to each other. The original writing and the adaptation are discussed in parallel. Aspects taken into consideration include the differences between the written and the audiovisual media, and in what ways the adaptation refers to the novel. Since the action of the novel takes place in the turn 1800-1900, while the action of the adaptation takes place in the present day, the essay also examines how the creations reflect their contemporaries.
