Abstract [en]

The number of environmental legislations continues to increase and the existing is regularly supplemented with new requirements and rules. ÅF has together with the industry and its suppliers developed a tool, ÅF PRS, to deal with the problems the directives cause for businesses. The purpose of this thesis was to identify the company's current processes for handling the directives REACH, RoHS and ErP, and suggest improvements to PRS in line with what was identified. 10 industrial and retail companies were chosen based on sales and number of employees. The companies were required to be active in the Swedish market. The method chosen was qualitative interviews with the environmental managers.PRS, Product Regulatory Support, is a web-based tool for companies to gather information from their suppliers. It helps companies by automating the collection of information and allows enterprises to quickly get an overview if their products are compliant with current laws and legislations. The study showed that companies in the retail sector were more advanced in their work with compliance than the industry. The retail companies meant that most of their products met the various legislations. Among the industrial companies, the progression of implementing REACH and RoHS processes had reach very different stages. There were examples of those who had just started, but also one who claimed to already have all the information on their purchased items. The analysis clearly showed that ÅF PRS fulfills a purpose in the market. The interviews showed that the tool could be further developed to meet the different needs of companies and business structures.

Abstract [sv]

Detta examensarbete är ett samarbete mellan två studenter från olika program på Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan, KTH. Studenterna studerar Teknisk design respektive Hållbar Energi. De båda författarna är vänner sedan tidigare och beslutade tidigt att de ämnade genomföra ett examensarbete gemensamt. Författarna vill tacka KTH för möjligheten att samarbeta kring detta projekt och att tillmötesgåendet för detta varit stort.Vidare önskar författarna tacka de som stått närmast projektet, nämligen de båda handledarna. Jacob Rydholm, som agerat handledare från ÅF:s sida, samt Conrad Luttropp, från KTH:s sida. Under projektets gång har intressanta diskussioner förts med flera anställda på ÅF och speciellt stort tack riktas till Philip Thormark, Elliott Bavarian, Greta Björling, Karin Elovsson, Elisabet Jansson, Morgan Ekmefjord och Johanna Svanmo. Även ett stort tack till Ulrika Johansson som snabbt hjälpt till med interna frågor och administation.
