Abstract [en]

Fastighetsregistret (The Cadastre) is a large and important information source

supplied by Lantmäteriet (the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration

authority). Fastighetsregistret provides geographical information about the 3.2 million

estates in use in Sweden. Fastighetsregistret has a large number of users who trust

that the provided data is reliable, but experience shows that the data can have varying

quality. As a user it is not always possible to access more detailed information in

order to assess to what extent the data in Fastighetsregistret is reliable.

The purpose of this master's thesis is to investigate the possibilities of a system with a

graphical user interface that present, classify and visualize the quality of the data in

Fastighetsregistret. The defined user group for this suggestion is internal users at

Lantmäteriet who have a good understanding of Fastighetsregistret. To fulfill this

purpose aspects such as visualization and quality have been studied using Benyons’

framework for interaction design and ISO standards for quality measures for

geographical information. Information has been found by literature studies,

prototyping, interviews and discussions with users.

This master’s thesis has resulted in a conclusion that there are some aspects to take

in to consideration when information quality is to be visualized. One of these aspects

is that grouping the information quality using a pre-defined classification system is a

good prerequisite to receive consistency and to make a system scalable. A selection

of parameters for measuring quality has been chosen and presented in a suggestion of

a graphical user interface.
