Seismic Response of Wind Turbines: Dynamic Analysis of a Wind Turbine in Horizontal and Vertical Direction - Subject to Earthquake, Wind & SSI
Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology, Department of Structural Engineering.
2013 (English)MasteroppgaveStudent thesis
Abstract [en]

For a numerical model of a 5-MW wind turbine, it is shown that vertical excitation from earthquake can produce severe response in the upper parts of the tower. Furthermore, for horizontal excitation it is shown that mainly the higher order mode shapes are excited from earthquake. Comparison between response from earthquake and wind is conducted. Throughout, the importance of soil-structure interaction is emphasized.
