Abstract [en]

This master thesis has been carried out at Avantel AB where the assignment was to design hardware and software and with the aid of these collect data from gyro sensors. Because the industry demands lesser and cheaper sensors with increased precision new methods compensating for drift and temperature sensitivity are required. Methods that necessitate extensive evaluation and testing.

The project began with a market overview of existing gyro sensors where certain characteristics such as drift and offset were examined. The next phase included design of hardware where amplifiers, power supply and A/D conversion are the major parts. Also, Universal Serial Bus, USB were implemented for connectivity. Software with the purpose of controlling the USB circuit and writing collected data to file was developed.

This project run from September 2006 to January 2007 with the result of a working measurement instrument and collected data according to the criteria’s that was set.

Examensarbetet har utförts hos Avantel AB i Stockholm där uppgiften var att konstruera hårdvara och mjukvara och med hjälp av dessa samla in data från gyrosensorer.

Då industrin kräver allt mindre och billigare sensorer med högre precision krävs bättre metoder som kompenserar för drift och temperaturkänslighet. Metoder som kräver ordentlig utvärdering och stora mängder data att experimentera på.

Arbetet inleddes med en marknadsöversikt där parametrar som t.ex. drift och offset samt pris studerades och jämfördes mellan olika gyrosensorer. Därefter påbörjades konstruktion och design av hårdvaran där förstärkning, strömförsörjning och A/D omvandling ingår. För anslutning till dator valdes ett USB-gränssnitt och den hårdvara som krävdes. Vidare

utvecklades en programvara för att styra USB-kretsen samt att spara data till fil. Examensarbete pågick mellan september 2006 och januari 2007 och resulterade i ett fungerade mätinstrument samt insamlad data enligt de kriterier som ställdes.
