The result showed that the majority of older people can be motivated to perform physical activity by being offered group activities and social activities. The involvement and encouragement from staff and relatives also played a crucial part. Physical exercise that was offered at a regular basis at the retirement home where the study took place was activities performed sitting down and promenades. Dance was also offered from time to time. Factors that the staff has noticed that can have a negative impact on older people’s motivation to perform physical activity are weather conditions, lack of time for the employees to help the older people, staff shortages, diseases and not being able to perform something physically strenuous.
