Abstract [en]

Computers and modern technique are today not only the reality of our students´ homes and lives but have also become the reality of our schools classrooms. Over the years the accesses of computers have increased in the classroom, both for students and for teachers. The aim of this study is to explore how secondary teachers use their computer in their teaching and in what purpose they let their students use the computer in the classroom. The aim is also to analyze if the teachers believe that the computer can affect the language learning process of their students. The material consists of observations and interviews by four secondary teachers from three different schools. The result shows that all of the four interviewed teachers use their computer on a daily basis, both for planning and in their teaching. They also let their students use the computer frequently during their lessons. Regarding the question of whether the computer can affect the language learning process of their students, the teachers seem unanimous regarding their beliefs about the positive effects on the language learning process that the computer may have. The effects that the teachers may see are increase of interest and motivation, improved joy of writing and increased control and flexibility in all parts of the writing process. The computer can also be seen as an educational tool for those students with reading and writing disabilities.
