All sorts of texts appear in a cultural context. It is part of a translator’s work to adapt the translated text into the new cultural context in which it will appear. It is clearly one of the most difficult and important tasks for the translator. In fact, one should be able not only to translate words, sentences, phrases, but to decode and deeply understand two different cultures, or more, where the two languages in question appear.

The aim of this paper is to analyze the Swedish translation of an ensemble of tourist texts in French, about the region Brittany, and to present the translation theories and strategies that were used.

The focus in this study is on how to translate culture specific expressions from the Breton culture, and also French national aspects. It also focuses on stylistic problems, such as the translation of the headings in order to retain the original touch, and also how to transfer the idioms in the source text to the new cultural context.

To be able to realize the pragmatic and stylistic adaptations, many specialists have been consulted. It showed that in fact, it was necessary to use many different theories and strategies.  Above all Vinay and Darbelnet, and Ingo have been useful, and to a smaller degree, Munday, Hervey and Higgins. Focalizing on the pragmatics and stylistics aspects of the translation, the three main purposes of the source text are transferred to the final text, it remains informative, expressive and operative in its new cultural context.
