Abstract [sv]

Denna artikel redovisar ett resultat från en enkätundersökning där 65 examinerade studenter från socionomutbildningen vid Mittuniversitetet i Östersund, åren 2003, 2008 och 2011 deltagit. Studiens syfte är att genom en retrospektiv utvärdering av denna socionomutbildning undersöka hur väl dessa före detta studenter anser att utbildningen förberedde dem inför sin första anställning inom socialt arbete. I enkäten efterfrågas respondenternas tankar när de ser tillbaka på utbildningen, hur väl förberedda de kände sig för särskilda arbetsuppgifter samt vilken betydelse den studiehandledda praktiken hade för dem i deras lärandeprocess.

Artikeln redovisar bland annat att 70 procent av respondenterna ansåg att det fanns delar i utbildningen som saknades. Att applicera teoretisk kunskap till praktiskt arbete var det som de utexaminerade studenterna menade var svårast. För tre fjärdedelar av dem, kom innebörden av socialt arbete att förändras under utbildningens gång, Flera av dem anger även att det har skett en markant förändring beträffande deras förväntningar efter att de varit ute i yrkeslivet en tid. Deras syn på vikten av teorianvändande i yrkesutövning är hos fler än hälften av dem heller inte densamma jämfört med vad de ansåg vid tiden för examen. Generellt sett anser de före detta studenterna att de är nöjda med sin utbildning.

Abstract [en]

This article sets out key findings from a postal survey of 65 graduates from School of Social Studies at the Mid Sweden University in Östersund. The graduates received their diplomas in the following years; 2003, 2008 and 2011. The purpose of the study was to, by doing a retroactive evaluation of the Social Work education programme, examine whether the education prepared these former students in an adequate way, for their future employments within social work. What were their thoughts looking back at the education? How well prepared were they, according to themselves, for specific work assignments? Were the practical periods, during their education, of any particular significance to them in the process of learning? The study was partly financed by the Institution of Social Work at the Mid Sweden University.

The article shows that 70 percent of the respondents meant that there were parts missing in the education. What they said to be the hardest part was to apply theory into practice. During the education, the meaning of social work changed for three quarters of the respondents. Several of them mentioned that after some time in the field as professionals, there has also been a significant alternation when it comes to their expectations. The importance of use of theory in practice is, for more than half of the respondents, no longer the same as it used to be before their graduation. In general though, they felt that they were satisfied with their education.
